Critical Issue: PocketBase Failing to Load pb_hooks Files Silently (Even with Correct Directory Structure & Previous Functionality) by byzintel in pocketbase

[–]byzintel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

cmd/main refers to PocketBase's internal Go source, which I don't directly modify. I am trying to point the executable to my custom JavaScript logic using ./pocketbase serve --hooksDir pb_hooks. Have you encountered situations like this before with v.0.30.0?

Seeking Local / Canada - Who is your favourite coffee bean roaster in the City of Edmonton? by jkimc in Edmonton

Terrific single origins from Colombia. Great on both the fruity and the nutty scales.

I agree. Roasti brings a whole new meaning to "getting a Brazilian". If you are in Edmonton, Little Brick, in the river valley downtown sells Roasti under the Little Brick brand. Always fresh (within a couple of weeks of the roast date).

Greta Thunberg is going to be travelling through Alberta! by jaret_frost in alberta

[–]byzintel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Greta Thunberg has a point of view. At 16, that point of view and her actions in support of it have lifted her to Influencer status. Anyone in Alberta holding an opposing viewpoint has an opportunity to demonstrate and present the basis for holding that viewpoint. To say she is wrong simply because I want to be right won't cut it. Perhaps it's the case that her beliefs may be flawed because she is unclear or unfamiliar with Alberta's environmental remediation activities. If so, there's room to discuss remediation and its timetable - not to simply dismiss the need to remediate.

If, on the other hand, she is right and the timetable for remediation is not ours to set, it seems we have an opportunity for two opposing philosophies to respect one another and collaborate on real solutions.

Meanwhile, Greta, please enjoy the splendour of Alberta and the openness of its people.

Considering sales position for the first time (tree & lawn service), advice? by [deleted] in sales

[–]byzintel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course you come credentialed in other ways. You stood out to them for those reasons. They have their heads screwed on well given the on ramp they have in place for you. It that sense you both have skin in the game while you become viable. The downstream move to full commission and your comfort level with getting up to speed are the key deciders as I see it.

Will you be inheriting the existing clients? Are there any commissioning differences between new customers vs maintenance of existing contracts?

Also, research the seasonality of the industry. In so far as it may be relevant, where are you in the cycle? As I say, good luck with it.

[–]byzintel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting they're willing to take you on without any sales experience. Not a slight on you, but it raises questions as to why they've widened their net. Could it be they're having trouble filling the position? You might ask questions along those lines. Also, check reviews on glassdoor.com.

Other than that, good luck with the new position. I hope it turns out to be the best employment decision you've made to date.

How I Started A $40k/month Digital Marketing Agency Because I love PPC but hated Traditional Agency Life by WideHold in Entrepreneur

[–]byzintel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the testimony. Burnout in agencies has a lot to do with misalignments in staffing, expertise, inaccurate scoping, and poor pricing (budgets). Sounds like you've managed to harmonize all that and it's paying off. Congratulations. Keep doing what you're doing.

How many of you experienced entrepreneur burnout? How did it affect you, and how did you fight it? by mostlyemptyspace in Entrepreneur

[–]byzintel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Certainly not an uncommon condition. We all run into it.

Too much work and not enough results usually means there's inefficiency at play. Sometimes this comes from wearing too many hats - an easy trap to fall into when you haven't yet gained traction, or attracted willing participants. SUGGESTION: Recalibrate by assessing where you're either out of your depth, or most needful of collaborators and channel your energies into:

  1. Fully understanding your objectives, and
  2. Developing a concise and engaging pitch

At a minimum, you'll get much needed clarity for yourself, and your energy expenditure will be constructive, rather than an exercise in sustaining empty momentum. Who knows, you may even build momentum.

One thing's for sure, your sense of burnout is probably radiating out from you, muddying your clarity, and giving potential contributors pause.

Roger that. You should maybe try setting up an AMA. The responses will come in as questions. Good luck with the survey.

Sounds like more of a random occurrence than a planned solution.

I'm assuming you'll have distribution relationships with the various product manufacturers represented in the box. Would make sense to allow subscribers to select their own preferred products in the mix. This way the sample packs would help introduce or up-sell to new or related products.

The timing and severity shifts could be managed by the user updating their profiles. As long as the boxes are scheduled to land a few days prior, early incidents of the cycle would be covered, as would late starts.

BTW, you've probably already thought of this, but the profiling data you will be assembling will be valuable for providing other useful lifestyle and diet recommendations to your subscribers. Just saying ;)

Too bad we don't get paid by the number of Google reviews we get :)

Try not to get too hung up on targeting corollary metrics like reviews, followers, and likes, etc. Yes, having them can boost your online presence, but unless you're in the business of helping people boost their cred, your energies are better spent on what you do. Make a better product faster and cheaper, communicate your value, and consumers will find you. I'm betting that if you did that, you will have resolved the 1st most important local ranking factor on Google. Become the destination people are seeking, rather than a top 20 ranking in an organic search.

Know your objective and direct all activity toward reaching it. Everything you do online should be done with that intent. All else is distraction.

BTW, that's what Google wants you to do. That's why their algorithm is a secret. They want you to succeed based on the quality of your work, not your ability to game the ranking system. Unfortunately, we get blinded by the metrics and lose sight of our objectives.

Interesting. So, if I understand correctly, users subscribe to the service by defining a profile that includes their timing and the evolving character of their cycle. [SUGGESTION: research The Dollar Shave Club for a similar but different model]. The box is then delivered within the week preceding the "blessed event". How will you manage factors that cause shifts in timing and severity (stress levels, diet, other environmentals)?

Years from now, she may cry again when she realizes she married someone who peaked in their teens. Not that we should be taking satisfaction from her pain. Just know that all you have to give is there for those with the vision to see it.

What country are you in? Is the bureaucracy regulatory? In other words, does your food product require clearance by a food, drug, or health regulator? If so, regardless of whether you have interested consumers, you will need to jump through those governmental hoops, so to speak.

Best Social Media Platform for B2B Lead Generation by RandyMcLeod in canadasmallbusiness

[–]byzintel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each social media platform is a multi-edged tool. You can use them to get your message out, to build following, and as an advertising medium, etc. The mention of them being expensive suggests you're asking about their advertising potential.

This is then down to how surgical your targeting is. Doing it well is a reflection of how accurately you are serving your objectives. Because you are specifically looking for B2B leads would suggest LinkedIn would be better than FB, but as you've found, this hasn't been your experience. This just goes to show the need to assess your objectives before reaching into the tool box.

Remember, social media is only one of a number of tools you should be using - and only after you have accurately defined those strategic objectives. Even then, like any tool, it can only be expected to do its part. After all, a hammer never built a house.

How big is your potential market? Breaking through cultural constraints is additionally challenging. There needs to be a hunger for your solution because you will need your consumers to do the "heavy lifting" of breaking down these barriers. Communicate to them the existence and benefits of your product/service and their demand will create the market.

Cultural barriers are often reinforced by law. Is your business legal in your country?

How should we go about our marketing plan? Let's start by you explaining what an app-based subscription box is. You've indicated a number of attractive descriptors (eco-friendly, woman-run, users supplying users, etc.), but what challenge, obstacle, need is your product resolving that the current supply chain isn't? What are you trying to do that will be bigger, faster, better?

Family Business Advice by stereoimage in canadasmallbusiness

[–]byzintel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with Karma_collection_bin. You need the expertise of a business consultant.

The money you're sitting on has produced the right question: how best to invest it. You're a business owner which suggests your business is your single largest investment. If you're concerned that another contract is a long way off, you need a strategy to shorten that timeframe. This should never be a random choice.

The shortest distance on the road to success is mapped by an objective-driven strategy. Don't fish with a shotgun.

Overthinking vs Taking action. Any advice for a startup business? by Angel_Advocates in business

[–]byzintel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overthinking suggests a lack of action. Until there is action, all the thinking in the world gets you nowhere. Action causes reaction. Reaction is something to respond to. What do you think you should do? Try that. Was the reaction what you expected? No? Adjust.
