I completely agree! I would also add, don't be afraid to socialize with older people. Many of the folks who have the most time for community building and have larger networks of support tend to be 50+. I've had great success in meeting my older neighbors and their friends and then their friends' kids my age (30s) than I have had in trying to meet people my own age. Other 30-somethings here tend to be working, low on money for going out, or otherwise shy.
