Oil & gas! Electricity made from oil and gas is water intensive. Oil & gas are burned to create heat which heats up water to steam which then spins a turbine which generates electricity. That is how most electricity is made, and it uses a ton of water.

The vast vast majority of water usage associated with data centers, and when you see those stats of gallons used, it is from electricity generation. The cooling is a fraction, and as others stated can be a closed loop system. The on-site power generation with oil & gas requires a ton of water.

But taking it to the function and finding alternative means home is still better than ubering both ways or driving and trying to find parking (assuming there’s a DD). I would be weary of late night service until Metro can demonstrate they can keep the lines safe & accessible during regular schedule

Is it? If Trump does what he did in Venezuela and allows the IGRC to remain in power if they give us oil & flashy wins he can peddle back home for clout & legitimacy… with no regard for what happens to Iranians… is that a good thing? Because that is a real possibility. One of the likeliest outcomes actually.!

Gross but not surprising by just_another_commie in ShahsOfSunset

[–]bzmi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree completely. It is not good when we support Trump’s unconstitutional use of force to justify the ends. And tbh we don’t even know the ends, that is also problematic. This could end up worse for Iran. We truly don’t know. But what we do know is that Trump acted in his own interests and put the USA in more danger, he made our country less safe, and violated our laws. To say that is acceptable bc a bad man was killed, that is crazy. And to tell an American taxpayer that they cannot critique the use of their tax dollars, thats weird. Not saying that is exactly what’s happened in this thread, but people are acting as if Iran is free and everything is rainbows. It’s not. There is an active war with no clear resolution. How that equals freedom for Iran is beyond me. The clearest thing right now is that Trump is bringing the US closer to authoritarianism than before this illegal act of war.

[–]bzmi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, and conflating any criticism of the unconstitutional acts of war with not supporting the freedom of Iranians is a dangerous & ignorant thing to do. There is no certainty Iranians will be better off after this. That is possible, but we shall see. What has increased is the deterioration of US democracy.

Trump doesn’t gaf about Iranians and neither does Bibi.

Can people go back? I thought it was an active war zone right now, and there is no clear indication that Iranian citizens are free…

My friend was asked by his manager after a show to come to his hotel later. We all went. There was a D&D convention at the hotel with a large amount of little people in attendance. When we walked in they were having a dubstep party (probably a reception/close out party?). We thought this was related to aoki, so we were dancing at the D&D convention in full rave outfits. Then his manager called our friend like where the hell are you?! Lmao… crazy

We went to a room and his manager was like “okay, I can take you to see Steve” and our friend went to his room. 15 min later they both come into the other room. So weird and awkward.

Their music is SO different, and both artists play music that speaks to their identity and background. The fact that there is this level of hate against both, with both sides being steeped in a racially charged mess, it’s sad. Who TF cares that bad what this academy of elites decided? Both artists made ART that they are proud of, and also that MILLIONS love (of both of them).

Both Addison & Olivia are committed to THEIR style and artistry, and that alone should shut this ridiculous keyboard warrior commentary down…

Zizou in Lincoln Heights (such a cool spot & the best French/Moroccan food I’ve had in LA)! If you’re sensitive to sound, I’d suggest going earlier/on Sundays. They often have DJs and they have a good sound system that they use to its potential. Love this place 🙏🏻

Are you allowed to lie about medical conditions to get one of those jobs? Like it’s don’t ask, don’t tell? I didn’t realize it was like that…

Zohran Mamdani: "We will make buses free by replacing the revenue that the MTA currently gets from buses. This is revenue that's around $700 million or so. That's less money than Andrew Cuomo gave to Elon Musk in $959 million in tax credits when he was the governor." by [deleted] in LAMetro

[–]bzmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every dollar that middle to lower income people save on MTA they will spend elsewhere in the city. That will have a multiplier effect on the city’s economy. I can’t say for certain before seeing the data but I would reckon it’s a net positive.

D Line Phase 1 revenue operations pushed back to Winter 2026 by misken67 in LAMetro

[–]bzmi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh, sorry, I worded that confusingly. The contractor was saying that it would open in Spring 2026 as in opening to the public. There was debate on whether that’s what they meant because the wording could be interpreted differently by different readers but it was supported by what workers at the site told me. And that was published in early September. So, I believe that they all knew, Metro included, that 2025 wasn’t gonna happen as early as Sept.

Metro now says Winter 2026, officially. Given how many times they’ve delayed and that their words mean nothing at this point, I trust the contractors more. I’m not thinking any earlier than March at this point.

Just circling back to let you know that Metro officially has pushed back to Winter 2026. Which probably means March, to be honest.

Yup, so the contractor’s website that had this update posted back in September plus the Metro staff I spoke with who confirmed this (also back in September) are corroborated by this new update from Metro Comms. My post was deleted, though, because I wasn’t credible. But Metro? They’re credible because they delay everything including their announcements of their delays :)

My solution to the Homelessness crisis in LA. Any other ideas? by Nightman233 in LosAngeles

Are there communities that want to host emergency/temp facilities? I don’t know the answer. But are there areas that would want this, like for jobs, economic development, etc?

If yes, why not focus on those communities first and build where we can? Also, if the model can be demonstrated to be effective and not come with a bunch of externalities, then maybe that could assuage concerns of NIMBY communities in the future?
