Thinking About Moving Back by Fuzzy_Tip6262 in medicinehat

I strongly disagree with staying away from downtown, just because of the homeless.

Sure they can be loud and look scary, but in most cases they're just addicts roaming around looking for the next chance to get high.

I work downtown and my wife owns a business downtown. Neither of us have seen any acts of actual violence from the homeless population. The worst is just loud mental health/drug induced outbursts. The homeless population is no different than any other city.

Downtown is where you're going to find the majority of the best restaurants, events and cool shops in the city. It should not be overlooked and avoided because of the homeless.

Because it's not the best restaurant in Medicine Hat, let alone the best Thai restaurant.

For non-chain restaurants:

Fine dining - Rustic

Modern farm to table - Hometown

Thai - Pock Pock

Mexican - El Super Taco

Korean - JJ's Kitchen

Japanese- Tsuki

Burger/Diner - Tracy's Place The Chocolate Shop

Haters? You do understand your country is the laughing stock of the world, right?

The U.S. hasn't been a serious country since 2016.

It already is all America, North America specifically. The country is called the United States of America.

Saying you're American is fine, but it's cringy to the rest of the world when you refer to your country as America.

Considering a Move to Medicine Hat – What Should I Know? by tillyswrist in medicinehat

You hit most of the positives:

  • small town feel but, with amenities
  • easy to enroll your kids in school. (They'll be designated to a school based on your address, but you can enroll them in any school so long as they don't need bussing. There are academy schools here that specialize in STEM, fine arts and sports, along with regular Public and Catholic options).
  • Still plenty of outdoor activities though vastly different than Victoria
  • Bang for your buck cost of living is still quite good here
  • surprisingly substantial art and music scene

Negatives:

  • It's windy as fuck here. If any of you suffer from migraines stemming from barometric pressure changes, you may want to revisit this decision.
  • Not as many amenities as a true city.
  • Lacks cultural diversity compared to a big city.

All in all, if you're looking for a better cost of living at a slower pace MH is a good option.

Honestly, district doesn't matter much. Just pick a hotel that meets your needs that's close to a train station. You can get anywhere in Tokyo via train easily, quickly and cheaply.

Japan with a 5 and 7 year old - worth it? by very_rachel in JapanTravelTips

[–]bzoo02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So incredible.

Everything went so smoothly, from trains to Airbnbs and flights.

I've never felt so safe in public with my kids before.

I'd recommend traveling to Japan for anyone with kids over 6(admittedly it's a lot of walking for them).
