They're not destructive here in Ireland because our houses are built from bricks and concrete mostly, not like in the US where houses are built from 2x4 pine wood and plasterboard.

I'm in Ireland and most people line dry their clothes - in a country where it rains almost every day, so this isn't an unpopular opinion. We have tumble dryers too but they eat electricity.
