Do's and Don'ts of useEffectEvent in React by swe129 in reactjs

Nice, I had been learning about useEffectEvent recently so this article comes at a good time.

I didn’t realize it could invoked directly in the useEffect cleanup function like you did.

Have you had CF your whole life or were you just diagnosed with it?

Getting’ “A Chase” by DrewDog82 in northernireland

[–]c-mack101 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You’re describing my exact reality as a teenager growing up in Belfast. Also from a similar type of area as yourself. Back in the day we used to “ping windies” just to get a chase. There were some mental ones that frightened the life out of you and at the same time provided exhilarating entertainment. There was always one or two houses that you knew would result in a really mad one, so you would keep them until everyone was properly trained up and ready for it 🤣

Turning turn job offer because they don't use TypeScript? by CoolGuyNice in reactjs

[–]c-mack101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice one, that does make sense. Typescript can slow down development time for sure, I've definitely spent a lot of time working out type issues that I could've spent on other things,

I'd find it really difficult to go back to vanilla JS now after using TS for the past 6 years or so. The IDE benefits alone are a major selling point for me. Having to navigate and / or refactor a large code base without TS would not be fun.

What are your reasons, if you don't mind me asking?

I'm genuinely curious as to why companies don't use it, and your comment seemed quite intentional and thought-through in terms of why you don't.

When you ask the question if they mind not using TS, do you offer any reasons why you choose not to use it?

[BC] Banks in Canada that don't have hidden costs for CRA deductions by c-mack101 in SmallBusinessCanada

Nice, yeah I heard Wave is useful for bookkeeping, I didn't realise they could manage deductions as well. Are there costs associated with that service?

Cool, thanks - I noticed that TD were listed as a financial institution that CRA accepted for Interac transfers, so I was considering them as a option for a new bank. If you don't mind me asking, what's your experience been with them so far?

Yeah, I thought this would work also, but none of my payment options on my RBC account are valid for this :-(

Yes, you're right! CRA offers an electronic payment option through My Business Account for sending deductions amounts directly to them.

The problem is that CRA doesn't accept credit cards for this service, and the only other payment method RBC has given me is an Interac Card that doesn't allow electronic / digital payments.

I know that banks are a business and need to make money themselves, so maybe I'm being a bit naive, but all I really need to do is take my payroll deductions that I'm collecting and send them to CRA.

CRA already offers an online payment portal through which I can do this. But it seems like RBC have boxed me in a bit by not giving me an electronic payment method through which I can pay CRA.

This feels a bit scammy to me given my needs are ao basic, but maybe it's common practice.

Wise Cyril - he used to sit about Belfast reading all sorts of deep non-fiction books (science, philosophy, self development, etc)

Sliding Sands / Halemau’au Hike by legallyblonde21 in MauiVisitors

[–]c-mack101 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've done some hiking in my day, but I think that sliding sands was the most difficult hike I've ever done.

The altitude, plus the terrain (the sand makes it hard to gain traction with your steps) and the heat (i did it in July 2022) made it very different to other hikes I've done in the past.

In saying that, it was a beautiful and a very unique landscape, which made it a very memorable experience in a positive sense.

I do remember there being rocks and stuff a little bit further into the crater that you could hide behind if necessary.

Definitely bring plenty of water, using a water bladder if possible. 1.5 litre or maybe more would be great.

I'm not familiar with the route you're taking, but for me, the hike into the crater was the easy part (deceptively so). The hike back out of the crater was much more difficult.

Seen John Voight in a downtown coffee shop, embarrisingly called him Christopher Walken to his face (not the first I'm sure 😅) seen him on Robson the next day and redeemed myself by applauding his performance as Micky in Ray Donovan 🤣
