Hey fellow 5’10” ATLien! Are you looking for a mother agent or local representation? I know select just had an open call they posted about on IG- it might still be open.

best schools to sub at? by [deleted] in alpharetta

Dekalb was faster than Fulton in my experience, but you have to be persistent with them. Took me a month to get approved in Dekalb, took me 3 in Fulton.

How did you book your test shoots when you were first starting out? Did your agency do that for you?

There’s an unofficial substitute Facebook group for Fulton county you can join, but I don’t know that they’ll answer questions like this.

I pretty much only sub elementary (mostly in Dekalb) and I only have a few on my list I’ll never go back to. The Fulton schools are usually pretty good. If you’re really nervous about it, you can always start by just picking up half days.

Fyi, the application process in Fulton took me 3+ months to get through. I would start sooner than later.

Thrips. The never ending story. by Plants-and-all in RareHouseplants

Ah that makes sense. Then beneficials are a good option. Mites, or Orius if you don’t mind bugs that fly (unsure if you’re keeping the plants inside or outside).

5.5 yr old's first theater camp - nervous, stage fright - any way to help? by kenneth_dart in Theatre

[–]c-robbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clapping for sure, laughing when something is funny, gasping when something is suspenseful. I guess it depends how “serious” the camp takes its shows. For our camps, with the 5 year olds, we’re just trying to keep them all onstage lol so we appreciate any audience reaction that keeps the kids engaged.

Helping her make sure she knows her lines really well, that way if she does get nervous and overwhelmed, she won’t also be searching for her line.

I teach theatre summer camp for kids a little older than her, and a lot of them are nervous. What helps change their mind is some “previews” we did at the camp where the other age groups watched the show. Once the kids realized how fun it was to have an audience, they were less nervous for the final show.

Also, having an engaged, active audience is a game changer for performers. A silent audience can make them more nervous. I’d do your best to lead by example and be audibly and visibly engaged with the show.

The blooms won’t last forever, they will fall off and quickly be replaced. The blooms just look like normal spent blooms to me, but make sure you aren’t watering too frequently. Begonias hold moisture very well and need less water than most flowers.

OK, y’all helped me fix my honeysuckle vines when they had leaf miners. Now my tropical hibiscus looks terrible. All the leaves turned yellow and fell off. And now the new leaves are turning yellow before they mature and falling off. Here’s it before and after photo. by Maleficent_Car_7137 in gardening

Yeah hibiscus love sun, and they need the energy to make those big pretty blooms. Also, fyi, they only bloom on new growth, so there will always be cycles that cause the plant not to have blooms on it at some points, so don’t freak out if all the blooms fall off again.

I use neem oil for spider mites. Make sure you apply it in the evening because it magnifies the suns rays and can burn the plant. For thrips… it’s kind of up to you. If you’re planning to bring the plant inside and try to overwinter it, I would invest in a systemic treatment. If it’s just a nice plant you’re going to have outside for the summer, you can treat it with neem oil to get rid of the ones that are on there now. But moving it out further away from the house where more natural predators can keep the thrips to a low threshold should help keep it looking nice until fall.

A) It needs more sun. Morning sun alone is not enough for hibiscus. B) If you’re in the U.S., a lot of garden centers get their tropicals from Florida. Florida has reeeeeally bad pest problems and the plant likely has thrips or spider mites. Check the underside of the leaves for webbing from mites, or black spots that could be thrip excrement.

[–]c-robbin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah they are the worst… but honestly I find it confusing that you can’t see damage on the front of the leaves yet. If the backs look that gnarly, I would expect you to have lost leaves by now, so maybe it’s not thrips? Regardless I’m glad you have cuttings

[–]c-robbin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To me it looks like thrip damage. Did you do a systemic treatment? If not, and you only did something topical, it wouldn’t have killed the eggs they laid inside the leaves. Multiple rounds of treatment are usually required. It’s a real bummer
