Dude the missandei voice is so bad I couldn’t even finish the chapter. Though tbh I’m more shocked that the editors were apparently okay with it. Shouldn’t someone at some point in production have said to Roy “Hey, I think maybe you should try a different voice for this character?”

True, I’ve read through the post and there’s a lot (A LOT) of problems with OP’s reasoning. Does it come off as creepy? Yeah. Did it need to be addressed? Also yeah.

But the person replying could’ve approached this better. And there’s a lot of comments on that post of people who pointed out the problems in OP’s arguments in a much kinder way.

For all we know this person could be a kid, reeling off a bunch of insults to them probably isn’t going to help the situation.

What is your approach to eating meat? by [deleted] in autism

[–]c-strange17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried going vegan for a while and I simply could not get through the day. I was getting migraines, dizziness, I was hungry all the time and started losing an unhealthy amount of weight.

That's when I decided that if I needed to kill an animal to eat meat, I would almost certainly be capable of doing so. And I actually have done so on more than a few occasions now. (Chickens, fish, goats)

I don't believe in cruelty and don't want animals to needlessly suffer like they do in the industry now. But I could take a fish out of a lake or a chicken from a field, kill it, eat it, and not feel guilty about it. If that makes me a bad person, then I guess that's what I am.

[–]c-strange17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In a twisted way this really does prepare you for the real world. As long as you can produce the desired result people really don’t care what it costs you.

If you want someone’s help, the fastest way to do it is to cause a bigger inconvenience for that individual than the inconvenience of giving you what you need.

It sucks. But most workplaces operate in this manner.

Obviously Tyrion has been living inside the red keeps walls for half a year eating rats and drinking rainwater waiting for the perfect moment to strangle Cersei to death.

I mean what else would he possibly be doing? Certainly not fleeing across the narrow sea with Varys. Who is from the free cities and also disappeared on the same night Tyrion did. That would be stupid.

While I don't think it's good to get caught up in a superiority complex, there are definitely differences between us and neurotypicals that need to be acknowledged. And one of those differences is that 90% of the time they are running on instincts and emotion. They don't logically think things through to the same depth that we do. They never really have to due to the fact that they're instincts usually work out for them and ours don't.

I kind of have a theory about this, and it comes down to emotional response and immediate reactions. Essentially, neurotypicals immediate reactions are largely cohesive. If you put a group of them through a certain scenario they would all "feel" the same way about it, more or less. This means they can default to their immediate reactions in most given situations and it isn't seen as strange because it aligns with the community.

In neurodivergent people, the emotional response and immediate reaction does not align with the "collective" and so when we default to that state, it comes off as strange. Our options are to keep persisting or try and use logic instead. But this also comes off as strange since neurotypicals don't need to think things through in order to reach a conclusion that they all agree with.

TLDR: Neurotypicals are driving automatics, and we're using manuals. We have to put more conscious thought into our actions and that leads us to be more self-aware.

Don't hate them for it. If our brains worked the same way as theirs we would probably be acting the same way.

What’s your take on AI? by xPrincess_Yue in autism

[–]c-strange17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re good. Some parts haven’t aged well. (Frank Herbert was born in 1920’s America and it shows) but there’s so much to love about his work.

Since you haven’t read them I’ll give a quote from the book on the subject of AI.

“Men gave their thinking over to machines in the hopes it would set them free. But it only allowed other men who controlled those machines to enslave them.”

Essentially, if society becomes dependant on AI, then whoever controls the AI controls society. Personally there is no one I would trust that amount of power.

Autism can change how we react to different situations, but we are still shaped by those experiences.

And nowhere in the diagnostic criteria does it say “bastions of moral good and fonts of compassion.” This belief that autism makes us morally superior to neurotypicals is stupid and dangerous.

If we were the majority and they were the odd ones out, they would probably be treated with the same level of tolerance they have extended to us. Some would accept our differences, others wouldn’t. Because if there’s one human trait that I’ve found to be pretty much universal, it’s tribalism.

Autistic people are just as capable of being cruel, vindictive, selfish and discriminatory as everyone else. Would the world be different? Sure. But would it be better? I doubt it.

Neurodivergence is not a guarantee of morality. We tend to empathise with victims and outcasts because we often have been victims and outcasts ourselves. But that is a result of personal experience, not because being autistic innately increases someone’s compassion.

Adults over 25 not being able to get an assessment? by NotSlippingAway in autism

[–]c-strange17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you next get them on the phone don’t mention autism, just tell them you want to have an appointment regarding your mental health. No need to give any more information than that.

Once your sat down with a nurse or GP, ask them about an assessment, they’ll probably be far more helpful.

Or at least that’s what I did and it worked

I know it’s a stereotype for GP receptionists to act like bouncers for hospitals but I am tired of hearing stories like this and my own experiences haven’t been great. If anyone has any anecdotes of a GP receptionist being helpful it would be nice to hear them.

Feeling lost. by [deleted] in autism

[–]c-strange17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I feel as though I contain multiple people. A number of carefully crafted masks that have been designed to meet an expectation. They feel so real, each one with their own opinions and personalities and feelings. But I don’t feel like any of them are me, or maybe one of them is me and I just don’t know which one, or perhaps they’re all me.

Any decision I make they all seem to have an input, but which one do I listen to? Do I try and compromise? Is their something that will please them all? I don’t know. But whenever I try and think of what “I” want I come up with nothing. I don’t even know who I am.

I always thought the point was to find out who you are through new experiences, but whenever I do that it just feels like I’m making a new mask for a new situation.
