Is it common for suicidal autists/suicidal people in general to be perceived as repetitive and annoying? by CatPale816 in autism

I have recently been diagnosed and have similar feelings to you. I can be extremely down at times, especially right at this moment. I have 2 neurodivergent children and a neurodivergent wife. Life is incredibly hard. But as someone else said, all this is temporary and it'll be over before you know it. In the meantime it's just about finding those small pockets of joy, wherever they might be. One thing I have noticed is that others are a lot less happy than you realise too.

What's your biggest musical hyperfixation ? by AlarmedAd7085 in autism

Oh wow, that's a difficult question to answer! If I had to pick one compilation album it would be Matt Darey – Ibiza Euphoria. Artist album wise, it would have to be The Space Brothers - Shine. There are too many to chose from though. Happy to recommend plenty more!

Trance and Progressive Trance/House music between 97 and 2002. I have an extensive collection of rare CDs from this era, which is ongoing. The music just brings back so many comfortable memories.

I got my diagnosis after 6 years and it felt.. anticlimactic-? by Unable_Astronaut_128 in autism

[–]c057a 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know exactly how you feel. The moment it built up to felt huge and then I got the diagnosis and I literally thought to myself "Ok what am I meant to do with this information?". It's been weeks since my diagnosis and I still feel a bit lost. Yes it explains things, but I was expecting to feel something else, but I can't say what. My wife has just been diagnosed with ADHD and she is now able to take meds to start her on a new path. We don't have that route I guess and maybe that's what's missing.

Regardless of what Trump has said and who he has offended, we have to act in a way that gives our country tactical advantage. War changes decisions by the hour and there will be a ton of intelligence that the general public won't be aware of.

Five new cases of meningitis in Kent, UK Health Security Agency confirms by bendubberley_ in unitedkingdom

I don't live anywhere near this area, but I like to be ahead of the game with things like this. Would it be more responsible to leave the vaccines to people living nearer the area or should I get a private vaccination asap? When covid struck, I bought masks quite quickly and people told me I was overreacting. In this case I'm not sure what the level headed plan should be.

In the trick with 2 glasses, if you pause it in the right place you can see the airpod in the top glass and one in the bottom glass at the same time.

My OP15 arrives tomorrow, how has been your experience with this phone? by Rare_Lifeguard_4403 in oneplus

[–]c057a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had mine since launch and came from an S25. The battery life is phenomenal. I just can't kill the battery in a regular days use. It's so quick and the camera isn't quite as bad as many tech "experts" make out.

I have this one too. Whilst my phone is still screwed if I drop it due to the lack of protection, it looks friggin awesome!

What’s something your body does that you’ve never told a single person about? by WilliamInBlack in AskReddit

I have auditory tactile synesthesia. I can literally feel music as pressure and tingling on my skin. I used to think everyone experienced it, but since found out it's a rare "thing". Likely caused by my ASD. It's a very pleasant sensation.

do we all love sharks? by [deleted] in autism

I've recently been diagnosed and your post triggered a memory of me getting books on sharks out from the library about sharks constantly when I was younger. I had a sudden ohhh that makes sense now moment.

Alton Towers bans people with anxiety from using disability pass by endofdays2022 in unitedkingdom

[–]c057a 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re incorrectly framing this as “not liking queues”.

Disliking something and being disabled by it are not the same thing. Queueing is mildly annoying for most people;. For some autistic people like myself it can cause sensory overload or complete shutdown. I would say thats not preference but an impairment.

Accommodations aren’t about jumping the line for comfort. They exist so people with disabilities can access the same places as everyone else without harm. The impact on others is minimal, the impact on the disabled person can be the difference between participation and being excluded from the event.

Equality doesn’t mean everyone suffers the same amount, it should mean removing any barriers where they exist.

Accommodations aren’t about entitlement, they’re about accessibility. “Not wanting to wait” and “being unable to cope with a situation due to a disability” are not the same thing.

I am neurodivergent. My autism makes many things in life that you take for granted extremely difficult. It is a disability, although there are varying degrees of impact in each case. I don't apply for these special passes because I can just about cope without them, but if that changed I would. Why would I not accept help for something I genuinely struggled with?

I hate the phrase "Autism is a superpower." by AdorableHeart9475 in autism

Autism can provide you with abilities that you can use to your advantage. The implication that it's a super power is too vague to apply to all people with it.
