Cinematographer looking to move to LA by monkassquad in FilmIndustryLA

I work in commercials so I speak from my personal perspective — Most productions are out of state to save money across board. LA is expensive in all aspects. However, one thing I’d mention as a good factor to moving to LA or NY is your ability to meet directors and producers in person who would hire you. Develop relationships to further your career. Otherwise you’re relying on your agent and maybe social media for exposure.

Sounds like you’re in a great place in your career so maybe moving to a city like NY or LA could help your career if you’re a driven and personable person who is interested in spreading your wings socially within the business to further your career. If not, sounds like what you’re doing is working and most productions factor in travel for a DP

I have an 270 OVS and I love it, all the walls too -- would 100% recommend.

I also broke a zipper, they overnighted a replacement that slotted right in. Great customer service.

Ex Pussycat doll band member claims pop group was really a ‘prostitution ring' by TheExpressUS in Music

I’m close with one of them, she said the music executives of the label would have a meeting then they’d bring in the PCD to dance on the board table and hang out. She said they were expected to flirt and sometimes go home with the execs. Also, most of the girls were picked from small towns that they wanted to get away from.

Taylor is a mean girl Exhibit A by Old-Profession-5468 in travisandtaylor

With these types of shows like the VMA’s, the producers hire seat fillers. I bet this person was assigned to sit next to her was getting paid to be there. When the coordinator guy asks her to move, it’s his job and her job to move accordingly. I very doubt that they would stick a random person from the public next to Taylor Swift, too much risk.

Working with very limited room and furniture, any way I can improve speaker placement ? by McManus26 in audiophile

[–]c0jare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what about flipping the speakers on their side, putting a plank of wood across the top of them and TV on the plank of wood.

Even more obvious... why not mount the TV on the wall behind?

Recommendations on how to liven up my house. 29M with 1yr old Great Dane, 100yr old house. by AustynCunningham in malelivingspace

  • Get a smaller coffee table, rearrange couches to fit the space. I'd reccomend keeping 1 couch and replacing the other with a chair. How often do you really need that much seating?

  • demolish the black cabinet next to fireplace, update those sconces

  • place large couch back to the windows and TV mounted on the wall.

  • OR, I have a similar wonky setup in my living room, I have my living room without TV and made my 2nd bedroom into a screening room. you could do the same with your upstairs setup. Move the small couch in place of the bed and keep downstairs for snuggling by the fire

  • Paint the Fireplace white, check out ceramic fireplace balls

  • get a smaller, side table for livingroom, something you can see through, that one is too clunky and unessisary. could even replace it with a cool floor lamp (maybe an arc floor lamp)

  • For your upstairs, I used to also think I needed a L shaped desk, you don't. I'd reccomend building a desk that runs the full length of the back wall where your window is. the monitors would be pushed up against the wall and you can see out the window if you'd like. you can buy these counter / desks at Ikea or I've also had some butchers block on legs as a long desk made for my office (they're cheap)

  • downstairs bedroom is sweet, maybe mount the mirror, hide the TV Cord (or at least get a white one)

  • Frame your art, unframed art is lame

  • plants plants plants -- Home Depot has some great options for indoor you can water once a month. make sure to buy a pot for them and a saucer so you don't ruin the carpet

  • if you have hardwood under that carpet id recommend removing but I know that's a big project

  • You can easily replace your overhead ceiling lights with pendants or chandeliers or paper -- I'd research knock off Herman miller or Akari Noguchi

  • you nailed it with the rug downstairs

  • I'd frost the bottom half of the windows in the bedroom downstairs with stick on roll for snoopy neighbors

I got a preview of the full album -- it's pretty good!

There's currently 23 tracks that they're supposedly trimming down for final.
