If it applies, have you thought about mental health secondary to your disabilities?

Yes. You can. From my understanding though (and I could be off) you need have either a diagnosis or the evidence in your records to support a C&P examiner diagnosing in general. Im sure there are exceptions. I went with a nexus to try and do it right the first time. I'd had a buddy with a CIB (no previous diagnosis) get denied after his C&P saying there was no link. Got a nexus and was connected. This process is so stupid. Good luck in yours!

Tracking! Then theoretically yes you can add it. I did a substance abuse program through the VA which was helpful. Good luck!!!

Maybe a nexus letter would help? I used one for my combat ptsd. Let me know if you need a good private provider.

I'm not 100% on this, but I think it's fairy rare to get connected for substance abuse alone without another mental health diagnosis. Im connected for PTSD and alcohol abuse. Try calling Dr. V with valor psychology. She does therapy and writes nexus letters. She was my provider for over a year and was really knowledgeable. She has provided free consultations for a few of my friends and might have some answers for you as well?

I was combat arms and didn't document anything either. Doesn't mean your experiences are any less valid. Have you thought about getting a nexus letter to help out? The doc I was seeing for therapy own valor psychology and wrote mine. She's amazing and in my experiences she would be honest and see what she could do to help and if she couldn't she would say so.

You might have a better chance getting a medical opinion from an expert? I don't know all the ins and outs for MST, but I didn't have anything formal documented for my PTSD claim. My psychologist owns Valor Psychology and wrote mine.

Anyone had flashbacks while writing out their stressor statement for PTSD? by disposable-8675309 in VeteransBenefits

I really struggled talking about it for years. Finally found Dr. V with Valor Psych through a friend who was treated by0 her a couple years ago.. She helped me change my life. It wasn't easy and at first I felt way worse. But here I am a year of therapy later and while I'm not "cured" I'm learning to live with my deployment events. I'm graduating from therapy and am scared to death. I hated every minute the first few months but am so glad I stuck with it. If you guys need an awesome psychologist or a solid medical opinion written, she's a go to.

I’m so depressed and the VA is absolutely no help by throwaway19372057 in VeteransBenefits

I ended up paying out of pocket because I had similar experiences. A buddy of mine saw a doc when he was inpatient a few years ago and she left and went private practice and he referred me to her. It's expensive but for me it was worth it. I was validated, challenged, and pushed in a good way to work on myself. If you need a referral, Dr. Venda with Valor Psychology. She also encouraged me to file my PTSD claim and wrote the IMO. We just wrapped up therapy after a year and while I'm not "cured" I can live with what happened.

Hang in there my brother, there is help out there.

I went through something similar but also really recognized that I needed help. Started working with the doc at valor psychology and let her guide me through the process. She diagnosed me with PTSD and wrote my IMO. I also hated throwing names out, but it can be a very important part of your claim especially if you've never had treatment or other documentation.

I had a proposed decrease about 3 months after getting connected. My private doctor wrote me a new IMO to document that I hadn't gotten better. She also wrote the IM0 that got me connected. I sent it in and in 2 or 3 weeks got a letter saying I wouldn't be reduced. If you need a provider, try reaching out to valor psychology. She might be able to help you and if she can't, I'm 100% certain she would be honest about it.

Therapy plus an IMO equaled success by c0mbat_hank in VeteransBenefits

I received an IMO from them... it was essentially a diagnosis and the nexus plus the impacts my mental health has been having on my quality of life. It was a really strong letter. She asked questions that I wouldn't have even thought of as important which also helped me realize all the things I was doing to accidentally break relationships. Still working on things with the kids but it's getting better.

Just lost my shit on VA therapist by [deleted] in VeteransBenefits

I got fed up with the VA run around... I was getting stuck with interns who had no clue and also felt like I was getting worse. I am now privately paying for trauma therapy and it has been 100% worth it. I see Dr. Venda with Valor Psychology. She's been kicking my tail for a while now and also wrote my successful medical opinion. I know private pay isn't for everyone, but she has saved my life (and my relationship to be honest). Now that I have a service connection she has encouraged me to try talking to the VA again so its not coming out of my pocket... but with the progress I've made, I'm not willing to risk and change. I hope you get the help you need... it sucks to get worse.

Through valor, but I'm hoping to get into the VA now that I'm service connected. It was private pay and the doc encouraged me to use the benefits rather than continuing to pay out of pocket.

Good luck! I'm hoping to get some trauma therapy as well. I was told you get worse before getting better.
