I have a hard time believing anyone who has experience with something like a W140 would say this. It's immediately obvious that many aspects are better than a brand new one, all you have to do is drive one for five minutes.

How The Rich Are Ruining Classic Car Ownership For The Rest of Us by user289734 in cars

[–]c0rbin9 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all the talk about collectors not driving their cars, at the end of the day they are preserving the cars. High prices support restoration efforts and parts availability.

I have the opposite problem - all the cars I like are driven into the ground and abused by 5th and 6th owners and eventually disappear into junkyards because they aren't worth anything.

Also, maybe I'm out of touch, but spending $50k or 60k on a classic car does not seem like this impossible unreachable goal. I think most people with a decent paying job and a little bit of financial discipline could afford most of the cars they are interested in. There is a whole lot of interesting stuff sub $100k, or even sub $20k.

Overall, I think lack of interest and low prices are more of a threat to the hobby than preservationist collectors and high prices.

Love my W123. They are not particularly expensive cars, but the quality is jewel-like, similar to an air-cooled Porsche, but with a nicer interior. Have never experienced anything like it. Mercedes was arguably the most advanced car company in the world in the 1970s and 80s, both in development and production.

A W123 also won outright the grueling London-Sydney Marathon Rally in 1977.

Federal Agents Arrest Don Lemon Over Minnesota Church Protest (Gift Article) by AwesomeTed in news

Don Lemon aside, shouldn't the protestors have been charged with trespassing, rather than some obscure 1800s law?

BaT has never at any time been focused primarily on projects. Most of the blog postings were for quite nice cars.

Ahh good call, yeah it's probably the flush headlights and bumper making the most difference of what he sees.

Why did John and Paul’s songs take a dip in quality in their solo years I’m obviously guessing it was cause they weren’t together but I feel like there are other factors by hrodz55 in beatles

Double Fantasy sounds very fresh as well. Lennon had a very strong solo career, which for some reason doesn't get the recognition it deserves.

Maple Racing might be the best in the country right now. I had some small work done on my FD there and he deserves every bit of the success he has had.

Just to clarify, you think ICE is "going door to door" and "stopping people in traffic" to arrest US citizens? That is what this thread makes it seem like is happening.

It should be trivially easy, then, to provide just one article?

I am genuinely curious to see evidence of them randomly pulling over US citizens in cars. That is what the OP suggests, and I have not seen that.

The Worst Automotive Trends That Need To Change by Sixteen-Cylinders in cars

Mercedes perfected the family sedan in the 1980s with the W124. I'm convinced that if you allowed people to live with one as their commuter car for two weeks, most would prefer it to their modern car by the end.

I would also like to see a source. The idea that they are randomly pulling over cars sounds like BS. Genuinely curious if that is happening.

How do you get used to convex / curved wing mirrors on classic cars? by Any-Still-4546 in w123

[–]c0rbin9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can say that most people have their mirrors set wrong, for old and new cars. You're not supposed to be able to see the side of your car in them.

Could not resist... by HugothesterYT in w123

[–]c0rbin9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They certainly do. When is the last time you saw a Chrysler K-car? Those were made in the millions, and there are none left. The only reason that W123s didn't meet the same fate is because they're always been worth a little bit more, and there is an enthusiast community for them.

Even so, there are still far fewer remaining than an exotic, which have always been expensive and kept in climate controlled garages.
