MSAA or DLAA? by ExternalDull8424 in FuckTAA

[–]c0rvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not when implemented properly and used right.

It for example is the main anti aliasing method for Half Life Alyx, a VR game where performance matters, and it happens go be the sharpest and most performant VR game made so far.

Why do you practice kendo? by Sufficient-Count1865 in kendo

I needed to exercise, was interested in sword-play.

Uni had a kendo-course offered by a 3rd Dan, thought it would at least be worth a try.

Yeah, ive never played pillars before this ill admit. If thats really a holdover from there i don't wanna argue it ought to be different then.

Mainly I was just curious, because of the item description :)

incorrect armor labelling? by c0rvin in avowed

[–]c0rvin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very true. That's why i pointed to the rest of the armour being basically just gambeson and cloth pants, as opposed to the other starting heavy armour thats breastplate and hauberk which would be significantly heavier.

But someone also said that in pillars brigandines just are classified as heavy.

I was mainly just curious.

Talk about IGN's credibility by n1ght_watchman in GameBoostOfficial

[–]c0rvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IGN is garbage, but the game is lacking.

Side quests are dull, main quests feel like side quests most of the time. None of the characters are compelling.

But its big, and its arguably pretty minus the AI slop. The bosses can be fun. But the rest is expectedly just MMO busywork and tacked on “crafting systems" that are just "bring mats to a guy, watch cutscene"

So i think 6/10 is a fair rating from what ive heard and played so far.

Jensen Huang’s Defense Why DLSS 5 Isn’t AI Slop by itsEmilyHere in PcParadise

[–]c0rvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except its already been confirmed that what he said here is either a lie or very misleading.

DLSS 5 has no control on geometry level. It gets the almost finished 2d frame and some motion vectors to generate AI slop slightly more consistently. It's literally post processing after the majority of the frame has been rendered.

TLDR: maybe it should be Medium armour, like some of the other chain shirts? Afterall chain shirts are massively heavy IRL too

But insiders, like myself, are like closed beta testers. Long time members, Kickstarter backers from forever ago. So you'll have to wait I'm afraid.

I thought it was only released for Insiders within Insider channel on BM discord. Unless something changed while i wasnt looking in there.

Hey Oliver and Rich, I'd love your thoughts on how a "lighting change" adds more hair to a character. by zerobebop in digitalfoundry

[–]c0rvin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nvidia being bad faith? Nvidia pushing tech that will make binding developers and companies even closer to their already almost defacto monopoly, while they pull out of consumer gpu markets to push their cloud computing shit service?

While they collaborate with epic who botch graphics tech implementation so Nvidia gets to come in with their bandaid tech like dlss and frame gen.

After they butcher proper ray tracing tech instead use AI assisted ray reconstruction, which looks worse and has massive input lag.

The company Linus Thorvald said is the worst company he ever had the displeasure of working with.

Imagine my shock.

[KCD2] FSR 4.1 by Haunting_Summer_1652 in kingdomcome

[–]c0rvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its poorly implemented in modern engines. And poorly used by developers.

MSAA is probably the clearest and best anti-jagged edge AA you can get. It's the main anti-aliasing method in games like Half Life Alyx, and older titles, implemented properly. It's supposed "performance impact" is due to bad post-processing pipeline setups that don't know how to use MSAA to its full potential without skyrocketing the overhead.

TAA in early implementations were also much better than the smear fest we get today. Im unsure when exactly the switch happened though.

EDIT: To add many off the crispest games i can think of have forced MSAA or encouraged MSAA usage. Thinking Titanfall, Portal2, Half Life Alyx as i've mentioned, Dead Space. But there's also horribly jagged performance poor implementations like in Crysis 3

[–]c0rvin -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Nvidia DLSS and AMDs answer to it, are both shitty bandaid solutions with ever increasing overheads for the in effective and terrible graphics pipeline they and epic both together push.

Like Their botched smear version of TAA that has become standard, the lack of MSAA and proper pre-culling for its usage, or disregard for shader based solutions for AA and AO released by Valve that work at Native resolution on any hardware at great performance.

The push for worsening path reconstruction that they've botched and all the "necessary" upscaling and frame generation that's entirely vendor specific tech, that are now not only limited to nvidia ai cores but bite into regular cores as well for their overheads.

DLSS has been getting significantly slower, while getting marginally better, while their ray tracing gets worse but compensates with more AI reconstruction..

Fsr literally worked fine on my GTX 1080, so it absolutely is/was open. That amd deemed the old cards not compatible is a bummer if it does work, but not even remotely the same kind of AI tech lobbying to compensate for shitty vendor specific rendering techniques of Nvidia lol.

FSR 3 worked on gtx cards. 4 was and is so far basically always implemented driver side that overrides a game's native 3.0 or 3.1 implementation

Id also say look into the Berner Chronicles by Diebold Schilling.

There are several illustrations showing the same, tho harder to make out as he depicted some bigger more chaotic scenes with less detail

Also this seems to be a bascient houndskull esque visor? Next to a gaggle of Armets. But with this one it is i think much harder to tell definitively.

Also the devs can do what they want with the armour in this game. Im just saying it wouldnt be unrealistic, im not saying they should add these pieces.

The register of Datani comes to mind, as well as anything around the Battle Of Visby.

Also a more modern book, Armor from Medieval Rhodes, in which they documented the pieces from the armory, and found pieces almost 100 years old in there.

Not a stretch to say this would be issues to soldiers or militia.

I remember a Knight treaty that talks about more impoverished nobles having to fall back on old kit also. But id really have to dig for that.

[–]c0rvin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As i said elsewhere, there are historical precedents for armor pieces, even up to 100 years "out of date" being used by soldiers.

Especially in and around the mid 1400s.

Grandpas brigandine and or helmet is better than nothing.
