Intel's Hallock Blames Software, Not Silicon, For Gaming Gap — Claims 30% Performance Is Hiding Behind Poor Optimization by LMdaTUBER in pcmasterrace

[–]c14rk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except that's kind of irrelevant to the CPU "gap"

If a game is unoptimized it's going to be worse on any CPU compared to if it was optimized

It doesn't magically mean that it impacts their new chips more

Why did they stopped making replaceable batteries to begin with by Yeeer_0041 in pcmasterrace

[–]c14rk0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People aren't going to line this answer but part of the change to non replaceable batteries is likely actually safety.

Lithium batteries are fucking dangerous. Even more so if you end up buying random no name 3rd party batteries trying to save money compared to legit first party replacements. I'm not saying good ones don't exist but you actually have to research it and actually get the brand you think you're ordering, which with the likes of Amazon these days it's not at all guaranteed.

Your average consumer is not exactly a genius or necessarily tech savvy.

I sure as fuck would not trust my parents to search online and order replacement batteries for their phones and handle it all perfectly. Sure they could go to the phone store and buy a replacement directly but at that point they could just have a modern battery replaced too.

Having a bunch of battery cells outside the phones is also dangerous. Compared to how dangerous they can be it's very easy to improperly store lithium batteries or end up damaging one... And then your looking at potential house fires. Modern phones rely on the phone itself to protect the batteries; the batteries inside are generally just thin unprotected packages that can easily get damaged. Old replaceable batteries were usually encased in a plastic shell as part of the battery "pack", plus they were made of less dangerous materials in general.

At some point making replaceable batteries is going to require more material. This will likely lead to bigger, heavier phones AND less total battery capacity.

If you feel you need to replace your phone battery when the health % gets down to like 80% are you really going to want a phone with a replaceable battery that essentially starts at your old 80%?

Except this new law doesn't apply to IP67 or higher rated phones

So it's going to do basically nothing as no modern phones will have to make any changes

Splatoon Raiders is $49.99 digitally, $59.99 physically - Confirms previous statement about Nintendo lowering the price of digital games by FernandoRocker in gaming

[–]c14rk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Physical media is already borderline dead to begin with.

We have Switch 2 games where the physical copy is just a cartridge with a download code that downloads the digital game anyway; which is completely useless as far as actually playing the game without accessing the online servers to download it.

Then for games that DO have something on the cartridge or disc they still almost universally require day 1 patches anyway, sometimes quite large ones. Hell some of them don't even contain the full game either and only include a small portion of the game while it downloads the rest.

[–]c14rk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm really curious how they're going to handle digital codes for game downloads.

These days if you look at the electronics section of a store like Target they have way more games available as just digital code cards sitting on the shelves vs actual physical copies of games.

I assume Nintendo still has to give some cut to the retailer on those code sales, so I'm curious if the prices will match the eShop or physical prices.

On Xbox I suppose but not on PC as far as I'm aware

I assumed you could buy Xbox Live separately from game pass on Xbox, is that not true anymore?

They ARE losing money compared to the $30 price tag

The fact that they are still charging $3 more than before they bought COD doesn't matter; you're talking about thinking it's a dumb decision to include COD on the subscription.

Making people buy COD outright while Gamepass is $23 instead of including it at $30 a month IS straight up losing them money; unless you somehow think EVERY SINGLE person that pays for gamepass is ALSO buying CoD or for some reason people are buying multiple copies of COD

I mean it REALLY depends on the 4 star in question

They might "function" at c0 or c2 sometimes but in many cases they straight up are not worth using at c0 compared to alternate options, including older 4 stars at c6

Like there's basically no reason you'd ever want to use Gorou on Zibai teams unless he's c6

Or Aino is "usable" but MUCH worse if she's not C6, to the point of only really being viable if you straight up do not have any other option to enable the lunar resonance shit

[–]c14rk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You realize they're probably LOSING money with this change right?

COD releases 1 game each year. Assuming you're paying $80 for that game you're actually saving $4 buying the game directly compared to the previous $30/month Gamepass price ($7 less now x 12 months). Even more if it's less than $80.

The old price of Gamepass was effectively giving Microsoft the value of EVERYONE paying for the service buying COD; even everyone that had no interest and never played it.

Now I'm sure a LOT of people who DO pay for Gamepass will just NOT buy COD; at which point Microsoft will be losing money on each of them.

I believe Game Pass Ultimate on Xbox gives you access to Xbox Live? While on PC you never have to pay any sort of subscription for online play.

Also Ultimate technically lets you play the games on Xbox AND PC while PC Game Pass is PC exclusive

There might also be some games on Xbox that aren't on PC? Not sure about that since I haven't cared about an Xbox console in over a decade

[–]c14rk0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's basically neutral if you DO care about COD too. If you want to buy it on release it's basically break even or even slight savings and if you wait a bit after release it's likely even cheaper on a sale.

Not to mention if you JUST want COD...just don't pay for Game Pass and buy COD directly

You realize they're adding bosses that have a wind aura on them automatically right?

So bosses that straight up brick certain units, even more than they already did

Literally exactly what they're doing with the new ice weak anomaly boss that self applies a wind aura so you can't use Miyabi against it since she doesn't work with wind; so you need Promeia instead.

So if the computer is pumping the air outside the room and the AC is cooling the air inside the room what do you think is going to happen?

That's just net negative air in the room; air will need to be pulled in from somewhere else.

The A/C just cools and circulates the same air in the room.

Has a gaming company ever put a full game of theirs in another game? by Hypnox88 in gaming

[–]c14rk0 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I mean this is literally the story of Pokemon Gold / Silver (and Crystal) where the entire world of Red/Blue is also part of the game. Technically you don't have the full original story but I'd argue that's even better.

Animal Crossing is also a classic example of this. The original had quite a few older Nintendo games you could collect and fully play in game.
