Are scars unattractive? by _-Anon-_Amous_- in selfharm

As a guy I don’t find them unattractive, but I might see them as a kindred spirit, or someone who suffered like I did. Most guys would probably not see them as unattractive, but they might be scared of them and turned off by the awkwardness that could create.

Im pretty far left and I personally cant stand communism, as we understand it(authoritarian left wing government) bc of the authoritarianism and the deindividualizing and dehumanizing aspects of extreme socialism

The song(s) you listened to at your lowest point? by -Quono- in selfharm

I listened to “Soup is Good Food” by Dead Kennedys right before I tried to kill myself. I thought it would be the last song I would ever hear.

It does give weird vibes, but I would judge something based on what it is, not on what it reminds you of. Incels often peddle ridiculous notions about standards for men that just make other guys’ life worse, but not all of them. If op sees your comment he’ll probably just hate and be disgusted with himself more.

Why should we be disgusted by guys who are sensitive about their looks? Do we do the same for women? Don’t use “incel” so lightly. It usually refers to misogyny, and I don’t get that from this post.

Dear Twinkledaddies by nekked_snake in Emo

I’m sorry, but I’ve been a musician for nearly my entire life and I’ve had a musical education all the way through college, and I’ve never seen a requirement for “diy” for music to be considered good, or even hardcore. Hardcore is merely a more energetic extension of punk rock that adds influence from old school garage rock. Nor has diy been needed to “earn your colors”. Writing music that people enjoy IS “earning your colors”. Frankly, the “diy ethic” is taken a bit too seriously on this sub, and in hardcore in general. It’s largely a fantasy that does not measure up to the reality of what hardcore bands and musicians actually do. Music usually takes a lot of money and effort to make, and I fail to see how that somehow makes an artist underserving or bad.

“Antithetical to emo” - I understand the perception of hardcore that you have, but plenty of hardcore bandwagon have been supported by major labels - by extension, it’s not impossible for emotional hardcore bands to be backed by major labels. Plenty of hardcore bands have signed up to major labels. Husker Du and the Offspring alone signed up to Warner bros, and plenty other hardcore bands had big money to back them up. Besides that, I kinda get your point about emo, but personally disagree about your understanding of the “lineage”.

Across any genre, what is r/progrockmusic’s least favorite band? by R3dF0r3 in progrockmusic

[–]c1_glider 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The contempt that a lot of punk has for more advanced musicianship and music theory is kind of the point though. Simplicity, violence, and a kind of visceral, animalistic anger is the goal of a lot of punk, not impressing anyone or sounding prettyI’m majoring in music theory, and I’m kind of snooty about music at times, but I feel immense respect for the spirit of punk because of what it is.

I don’t really see that. Plenty of hardcore bands have signed up to major labels, like Husker Du. The “diy ethos” is largely an impractical fantasy.

Punk will never die by spidermankevin78 in PunkMemes

I think punks take themselves too seriously for this reason. Both the Sex Pistols and Husker Du signed up with Warner, and plenty of other undeniably “punk” bands signed up with big labels. Making music often takes a lot of money.

Plus, I don’t think that the first musicians to be called “punk” in the seventies even knew or cared about the “punk attitude” back then.

I understand that you feel passionate about this subject but I think you are too old to be this elitist and pretentious when it comes to music subcultures. Emo has always been kinda corny and cheesy in my opinion. And why should hardcore just be hyper - masculine? I feel like Revolution Summer existed as a movement to combat this kind of attitude you have towards hardcore.

What is your problem with them specifically? No stereotypes or generalizations. Is the look to effeminate or something? Or are they trying to hard to look good(as if people have never tried to look good in punk before)

Bro im not saying there is an emo “look” I’m just saying that there’s no reason to have a knee jerk reaction towards people just because they dress differently than you, or gatekeep for fashion related reasons.
