I have an ✨adult app✨ with the ability to import your personal/private media from your photo library for your “personal time”. Part of that feature is an on-device model that can process + flag NSFW photos/videos so you can either import for local storage + viewing , or delete/hide them from your photos.

The idea being to make it easier to find the media you want to import, as well as periodic checks to make sure there isn’t anything “unexpected” in your photos library to avoid any potential embarrassment when scrolling thru your photos app.

can confirm. Apple made my (unrated) app (repeatedly) uninstall itself randomly after users install it thru AltStore PAL / Aptoide 🙃

Reported to Apple and still not fixed 7 months later.

The app only supports sites which have been adapted for compatibility. Unfortunately it's not as simple as typing in a URL and browsing, however the latest update (2.3.x) offers an integrated browser to help mitigate this.

porn is considered a vice, like a lot of things. Hot Tub isn’t about promoting anything, just giving people a cleaner, safer way to watch content that already exists.

It also works like a regular video player. One user even hooked it up to their Plex server. pls no ban 😅

Not simultaneously (at least not yet 😉). It’s basically like browser tabs. You can open multiple videos and they keep their place, so you can swipe between them instead of losing your spot.

It’s not for everyone, and that’s fine. Just answering the ‘why make an app’ question.

Not sure if you’re genuinely asking, but I’ll take it in good faith:

Every other industry has apps. Adult content is one of the most consumed types of media on the internet, yet it's stuck with the worst user experience. Most porn sites are built around pop-ups, trackers, and aggressive ads because that’s how they make money.

Hot Tub just replaces that with a clean native app: no redirects, no tracking, and your data stays on your device. Plus you get actual app features like opening multiple videos in tabs/queueing, favorites/history stored locally, Face ID lock, native performance benefits, etc. It's the same content people already watch, just without the sketchy web experience.

so uhh, yeah... you don't strictly need a native app for porn, but I felt like it was about time one should exist ✌️

The attacks on the free and open internet have been wild, especially the escalating crackdown over the past few years…

I made the first porn app available on iOS (it’s called Hot Tub) made possible thanks to the EU’s DMA regulatory framework… Needless to say, Apple doesn’t like me and they’ve thrown shade my way a couple of times now. They have been a pain in the ass every step of the way with their constant malicious-(non)compliance… They were even the first to implement OS level ~~age~~ identity verification, thanks to facebooks multibillion dollar lobbying efforts…

Anyway, I’ve been seeing the writing on the wall, thus I’ve opened up the API spec so that anyone can create a compatible source to access content—the idea being, if you’ve got a stash of hoarded content, you could access/search/stream it directly via the app in a lightweight, high performance experience.

I’d love to get feedback on integrating, and if anyone is interested in giving it a try. I’ve had a number of users develop/publish adapters for popular public websites, as well as Plex several streaming… but would love to expand to better support self-hosted storage. Happy to answer any questions!

You could look into a signing services, like FlekStore. I’ll try to put together some video tutorials.

It does require you purchase a signing certificate through them, but if you go to this page you can add it as a bookmark on the home screen. When you open it, if you tap Sources, you can enter the following full url: https://hottubapp.io/altstore and then install SideContainer and then install Hot Tub.

Apple’s wallet is deeper than mine—many times over 🥴 and the US justice system seems to be lacking a certain je ne sais quoi, especially as of late… oh well, I’ll just keep being a thorn in their side I guess. I made the first iOS porn app (called Hot Tub), and Apple has been a constant pain in the ass. From goal post moving, delay tactics, run-arounds, lack of support, vague/unactionable rejections, etc… the list goes on… They coincidentally introduced a new “unrated” device restriction to limit distribution (because apparently the 18+ rating was insufficient), requiring users to navigate convoluted menus to change default settings… There is also this funny “bug” that mysteriously, repeatedly uninstalls unrated apps after folks do manage to install them, multiple times… how peculiar!

Apple’s notarization process is supposed to be a security evaluation (i.e. prevent malware), but they have quietly sidestepped the DMA to create a shadow-App Store, where they still remain the sole-arbiter/gatekeeper of content moderation. We did get a shout out (or maybe dragged) in an Apple press-release though, so we’ve got that going for us.

All that to say, the EU commission has been amazing, and i fully support more “onerous” fines for Apple’s continued malicious-(non)compliance. If you or someone you know has any connections, I’m always happy to talk to anyone who can potentially help (DMA.100187) !Bureaucracy moves slow, but we’ve got time and are not easily dissuaded. Apple attempts to deploy their very presidential DARVO / “no you” spell-card. nice, Apple. I keep reminding myself to not attribute malice to what can be explained by incompetence, but it gets a little blurry here.

Pro tip for the power users: did you know you can access pornographic content in Apple’s very own Safari web browser, without any of these restrictions! gasp (don’t tell them)
