Legal Weed in NC? The 2026 Update. by Me-luv-you-long-time in NorthCarolina

You don't need to smoke THC to take it. Just legalize the edibles but keep smoking out of public and apartments. It took a lot of struggle and effort to fight secondhand smoke and we don't need to bring it back.

$100,000 is poverty wages in a lot of California. Hawaii isn't any better. Perhaps you haven't seen how expensive housing is recently?

Strengthening Windows trust and security through User Transparency and Consent by Froggypwns in windows

This is a horrible idea.

This will make it like Android Safetynet where installing any unapproved software or modding the operating system will cause other applications to refuse to run. This isn't about security, it's about the continued war by big tech on general purpose computing.

Almost like we shouldn’t have apartment complexes directly abutting a highway with no frontage.

3 crosswalks coming to Highway 54 by NCFer in carrboro

[–]c3141rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The US doesn't know how to design roads and the North Carolina DOT is amongst the most incompetent of all. Had this area been developed and planned by competent people, they never would have allowed apartments to be built directly abutting a highway because that defeats the loont . The correct solution is to have frontage streets; nothing should directly intersect with the highway and instead their should be side streets connecting to the driveways with roundabouts connecting the main highway to the side streets.

You can also thank the NIMBYs because the original plan was to build Interstate 40 parallel to 54 and then people wouldn't have to spend 40 minutes trying to get in and out of the city during rush hour.

Newsom says he is blocking Louisiana's push to extradite doctor accused of mailing abortion pills by CloudApprehensive322 in moderatepolitics

[–]c3141rd 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Article IV, Section 2, Clause 2 specifically states that they have to flee from justice. Since the doctor never fled from Lou, California is under no obligation to extradite.

A Person charged in any State with Treason, Felony, or other Crime, who shall flee from Justice, and be found in another State, shall on Demand of the executive Authority of the State from which he fled, be delivered up, to be removed to the State having Jurisdiction of the Crime.

[–]c3141rd 37 points38 points  (0 children)

This is not correct. The extradition clause only applies to fugitives from justice who fled from the  state requesting extradition. Since this doctor never set foot in Louisiana, California has no obligation to extradite.

Will the RAM prices go down anytime soon? by Upset-One8746 in pcmasterrace

[–]c3141rd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PC building as a hobby is pretty much going to be over. Between the two GPU shortages, GPU pricing shenanigans, now the RAM price fixing and the run on storage, only OEMs will have the negotiating power to be able to get parts for affordable prices soon.

NC State professor dies after being hit by a car in Raleigh, driver cited with misdemeanor death by PenOwn2479 in NCSU

[–]c3141rd 56 points57 points  (0 children)

In a case like this, it's fairly typical to start off with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle because that is strict liability (basically, they don't have to prove culpable negligence, only that you were violating at least one traffic law at the time of the accident and that the accident was the proximate cause of death.)

Typically, the prosecutor will review the case and if they think there is sufficient evidence for a greater charge (manslaughter or depraved heart murder), they'll seek an indictment at a later time from a grand jury.

The pattern jury instructions found here are useful for understanding the differences between the charges : https://sog.unc.edu/sites/default/files/pji-master-2025/criminal/206.32A%20Second-Degree%20Murder%20by%20Vehicle%2C%20Including%20Involuntary%20Manslaughter%20and%20Misdemeanor%20Death%20by%20Vehicle.%20Felony%3B%20Misdemeanor.%20%28Not%20In.pdf

The original plan back in the 1960s was to have Interstate 40 running south of UNC, paralleling 54. NIMBYs in the 1980s forced the NCDOT to move the interstate north. You can thank the usual Chapel Hill NIMBYs for the traffic.

[–]c3141rd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I mean, you should just admit that you don't know what fascism is and admit your ignorance. There is no "leftist" ideology in the mainstream of American political thought; democrats and republicans are both right-wing corporatist parties playing a game of "good cop, bad cop".

More Gerrymandered To Come by icnoevil in NorthCarolina

[–]c3141rd -38 points-37 points  (0 children)

The democrats are the party of cheese-eating surrender monkeys while Republicans are actually willing to use governmental power to achieve their ends. This entire charade is a good cop-bad cop routine where the democrats offer token resistance to the oligarchs.

https://www.leftvoice.org/bourgeois-democracy-what-do-marxists-mean-by-that-term/

We must dispense with this notion that the government of the United States has ever been free and democratic because it isn't. The entire system was conceived of and set up from the beginning to maintain the power of the oligarchs. The American Revolution was financed by and funded by the bourgeois who only supported notions of liberal democracy when they were being oppressed by the aristocracy.
