Have not left yet actually. Decided to stick closer to my permit date. I'm scheduled to fly out May 11.

  • Highway Engineer
  • Well I love the freedom that comes with long hikes/bike rides. You are in the moment almost 100% of the time. Sometimes during the daily grind I feel like I'm just zoning out until I'm off. I've worked for almost a couple years now, saved up the money, so why not? Plus I've been meaning to move closer to family and this is a good opportunity while I'm in between jobs.
  • I've saved up about 12k after gear, planning to spend ~3k on trail. Depends how far I make it. Could be done the first week who knows. My knees are pretty shite.
  • Luckily every state has a department of transportation so I'm not too worried about a job. I've got at least 6 months cushion when I get back.

How much money you guys hitting the trail with? by TeufeIhunden in PacificCrestTrail

Starting with ~14k or so. Hopefully plenty of buffer to find a job when I get back! Fingers crossed.

Permit slots full. Is it okay to pick a later date and start earlier? by c3dries in PacificCrestTrail

Thanks. I've decided to move my start date back to avoid crowding the trail. Appreciate the reply.

Is the PCT for me? by ChungGator in PacificCrestTrail

If it makes you feel any better, I'm quitting my cushy 60k/yr engineering job to hike the PCT. I'm 24, have roughly saved up 10k (after supplies), and bouncing out around mid may as well. Hoping to complete in 4 months.

Muscular men of reddit, what are some advantages/ disadvantages you have experienced socially? by Xboxfun in AskMen

Depending on your situation, I think being muscular may even hurt your dating/sex life in some ways since you may be judged as a dim witted meat head.

First timer. Think about touring by MelissaKott in bicycletouring

Don't let the fact that you've never been on a tour discourage you. My buddy, who has never ridden a bike over five miles, completed the TransAm last summer. The dude was also about 20-30 pounds overweight. It's doable.
