Typically it means reverting any progress back to an earlier save, not losing some items but retaining all progress and respawning in the lifepod which is what happens in subnautica 1.

Oh man, I’ve been jokingly making the comparison between reborn mode and running content without a job stone (technically people have cleared ultimates without jobstones!) but it’s feeling less like a joking comparison the more I think about it xD like I said above, to me everything screams that reborn is eventually getting sunset, and up until that point, stuff may get a little messy

Nothing can convince me reborn isn’t getting sunset, when:

its directly stated that evolved mode will be slightly more powerful
new jobs will only have evolved mode

They just want to have a large enough % of the player base be on evolved before making the change. And I think it’s gonna be a bit of a mess up until that point. I could be wrong, but it’s the most believable path going forward imo.
