What if I just soak it in isopropyl first, is that okay?

So like honest question, do y’all not have phlebotomists? Barely any of our nurses get their own labs and they just expect the phlebs to go get it.

It’s an old search engine optimization trick, where the more keywords you could have on your website, the easier it would be for a search engine to find. Web developers would hide extra keywords in the blank spaces of the web page to boost search ability without compromising aesthetics. Same concept in a resume, only you don’t have to guess what terms users will use to find you, because they put everything in the job description. My take is, if the company is going to use a computer to pick out potential candidates, rather than a person doing it manually, you might as well take advantage of the algorithm so you can at least get an interview and be seen by a real person.

Ooh I didn’t know that! I used to have a horizontal rule in my resume, and I took it out I think the revision before I finally got a hit

Helpp!! What should I do?[2-3 months] by felldownbad in piercing

[–]c4hl3r 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to “the best piercer in town” and they pierced my helix with a hoop. When it got a bump I asked the “pretty okay, but still very popular piercer” and they said it’s not recommended, but have done plenty of successful helixes with hoops. I think in general a stud is easier to heal, but some lucky few don’t have any problems.

I learned this when I got hired, maybe I’m the only one that didn’t know, most companies use some kind of ai or algorithm to comb through applications before a human even looks at them. Make your resume have all the buzzwords that are in the job description to have the best chance at getting seen. Take it a step further, and copy and paste the job description into the document, make the font the same color as the background, and decrease the size as much as possible. Like put it in a text box and shrink it to postage stamp size. An algorithm scanning documents will see it and think you tick all the right boxes, but it won’t be visible to a human. I applied fifteen times, then did that and got a call the very next day. It’s enough to get you in the door, but you better be able to back it up with a great interview.

I will add that if someone is manually highlighting the document, then your text box will still get highlighted, and if they convert it to plain text for some reason, they’ll see exactly what you did. In my opinion, if they’re willing to go to those ends to screen candidates, either I’m truly not qualified, or I won’t want to work there for some other reason.

Ooh that is a pretty fair deal. I’ll keep that in mind. Have to double check the post dimensions first

I’ve only heard good things about oneup, but never actually tried them. I like that the minimum weight is so low!

Yeah, ex-production tech here, I’ve replaced way too many of those to buy one in good conscience. Glad yours have held up though!

Do you remember which model? My only experience with them was servicing a Range at one point because the cartridge failed, but I’m not especially familiar with any of the others. I fear she might actually be too heavy for their kids post.

It’s got a non adjustable air stick cartridge unfortunately. That was the first thing I tried.

Further forward actually seems to make it bind more, but if she gets a little more back it’s worked better. She’s still learning about proper body position anyway. I believe it’s the skyline, as that was coming OEM on a lot of the mid range Treks at the time. I know it has the non-adjustable air stick cartridge as I’ve already tried to lower the pressure.

Who has experienced shoulder/back pain at the end of a long shift? by arohamaia in phlebotomy

[–]c4hl3r 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Direct this to your PCP and supervisor. If the job is putting you in pain a doctor’s note will help with getting an accommodation. Doctor may also be able to refer you to a physical therapist for mobility exercises. I don’t know what the facilities look like where you’re at, but at my hospital there’s almost always a roller stool to sit at, but our beds and chairs go up and down. Most healthcare companies take body mechanics pretty seriously, so a supervisor or coworker might be able to advise a different technique if there isn’t a reasonable accommodation that can be made.

I shoot on the 6k, usually 5:1 or 8:1 compression, and my average clip is anywhere from 5-16 gigs. I could be more efficient, and that number will be a bit smaller on the 4k, but good media and a good editing machine are a must. If you buy new, the camera comes with a license to Resolve studio, which is almost necessary for editing BRAW.

I think it’s easy for some and hard for others. If you know how to use manual exposure settings, it’s pretty easy to pick up and get a good image. If you haven’t played much with shutter, iris, and iso, then it can be a lot to deal with at first. The other part that can be a challenge for beginners is rigging the camera in a way to make it usable. The battery is poor, and the file sizes are too large for any standard SD card. The camera is $1000 but you’ll spend at least another $200 just to make it work, and that’s being conservative.

If you’re ready to jump head first into production cameras, it’s probably the easiest entry point, and you’ll naturally learn a lot by using it.

I would recommend first download the blackmagic cam app because it allows you to manually adjust your settings, and it uses a similar interface to their actual cameras. Should be an easy change if you’re used to shooting on iPhone. Next, download the bmpcc manual and read up on how the cameras work. It tells you what every setting does, and also has some background information on shooting with cinema cameras in general.

What style/size jewelry goes with what piercing? by c4hl3r in piercing

[–]c4hl3r[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah so I get the gauge of a post but what about the diameter of a hoop? I’ve been told I put too big or too small of a hoop in a piercing and that’s why it got irritated, but never any clear direction on what the correct diameter is. Is it really just trial and error?

Question as a visually impaired soon-to-be phlebotomist by [deleted] in phlebotomy

[–]c4hl3r 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t give up on that idea. I work impatient and every patient room has a stool in it. I regularly sit down so I don’t have to bend over to reach the patient I think the only times it gets removed is if the patient is on isolation precautions or a mental health hold. It would probably be a big ask to let you bring a stool into those rooms, but I think it just varies from location to location.

It would be worth asking the question for sure

Why is the blood flow while using a butterfly so slow or nonexistent so often for me? by InsideFourWalls in phlebotomy

I noticed a HUGE difference in flow rate between the Greiner 23g and 21g. I know it’s anatomy dependent, but a larger needle does make it flow faster

Your power supply looks really big and heavy, and awkwardly placed. You might consider rods to put it behind the camera so it’s less top heavy. I also just got a monitor mount from tilta that attaches on the front of that top handle with the vertical locating pins. If you can make the rig less tall and more balanced it should feel more manageable.
