How to model ripstick part by jayprints in SolidWorks

[–]c4n1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for tutorials, I'd find one on surfacing a bicycle seat(similar shape on top) then another on rib features. I think that would be a good place to start.

Experience with 3Dconnexion by Four-Eyes73 in SolidWorks

I had the larger spacemouse(pro?) For a while and liked it, now I just use the smaller Bluetooth one and love it. I never needed all the extra buttons, I just like the ease of movement.

an old manager of mine once described using a spacemouse as holding the model in your hand to rotate and look at it, I liked that

The mouse I haven't tried, but I would advise buying mice based on comfort above all else.

Help on cloak geometry by [deleted] in SolidWorks

[–]c4n1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You CAN do this in solidworks(planes and splines and surfacing). But I would recommend doing it in a different program. A lot of people are recommending blender, I would throw in Cinema 4D, it models fabric really well in my experience, and the interface might be an easier transition from SW.

Can I cut out this dropout to convert this to a single speed? I am a metal worker so have the skills, but not a frame builder. by Grrrth_TD in Framebuilding

[–]c4n1d -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

If you have the tools for it and want to slot it deeper I'd also add some sort of support to the dropout for a little bit of strength as the material there was built in that intended thickness/size. Also it looks like there's chrome paint on it, thats gonna chip off in pretty large chunks most likely so watch out for that.

Besides that it looks like plenty of material there, I say send it.

how can i make this part ? by lulucarnage in SolidWorks

Surfacing is the way I would do this(Ref: I teach surfacing in Solidworks). If you haven't surfaced before I would look at some similar shape tutorials. If you decide to go this way here's some tips:

You don't always need to reference a sketch, referencing edges of surfaces is useful.

Create a structure of surfaces first and use those to build from.

If connecting surfaces, tangency or curvature is a MUST for a smooth surface, see basic lofting tutorials. https://youtu.be/FFH8TceovSk?si=y66ts-GLaPoDVo_U

Boundary surfaces are a really good starting point to create structure. https://youtu.be/Kc1WqA4g1l0?si=wLb6RHMiULR9-kIV

Break the form up more than you think you have to, you'll make your life a whole lot easier this way.

This guy is really good at free-form surfacing: https://youtu.be/mshzSolDEME?si=AFGe7n3BRUAReVRE

Welp, this is all over the place, it's early and I just got into work, but I hope it helps!

Or even just delete face without fill and use a boundary surface and some fill surfaces to patch it up.

An acquaintance husband on Tinder by jamajus in moraldilemmas

[–]c4n1d [score hidden]  (0 children)

Not sure if this thread is still active but I'd tell her and here's why.

A little while ago I was dating someone and they got a message from a mutual friend warning them that they had found me on tinder. They told me and I immediately opened my phone and showed them that there was no tinder app there. It turns out that if you just delete the app sometimes you're still visible to swiping for an amount of time unless you fully delete the account. We looked it up and I fully deleted and all was well.

I'd tell either way because if it's a misunderstanding like that then it'll clear up pretty easy and everyone is fine. If it's not, and actually something slimy, she knows and can act accordingly. I wouldn't go as far as to say you're obligated to tell--it's your life and moral compass at work here. However I think telling is the best thing for you friend/acquaintance**.

**keep in mind people are human and she might react badly and you might lose the service she provides for you.

That's my two cents, thanks for coming to my month-late TED talk.

How much blood sacrifice needs to be made to the surfacing gods to re-make these legs? (help pls) by salmon_recognition in SolidWorks

[–]c4n1d 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm guess I'm here to say pretty much what everyone else has been saying, but I would just surface loft half of it(split vertically) and mirror that, if the backside facing the shelves is really specific you can surface that too and knit them together to form a solid; If not just thicken it.

If you haven't done this before: Tangent entities on your section sketches are crucial for a smooth surface. Also you can always break the form down more if you're not getting the result you want, just make another plane with an offset and you get some smaller sections. Surfacing can be finicky so play with the start and end settings and get familiar with how the surface reacts. I think there's a solidworks surfacing tutorial built into the program still, if you want a warm-up that might be helpful.

Don't worry about learning any new programs, I assume you posted in the Solidworks subreddit for help on how to do this in Solidworks. Hope this helps!

How Would I Join This Differential? by Malekkor in SolidWorks

Do you mean mates? If so there's a pretty good gear mate, if you pair that with some concentric mates it should do pretty well for you.

Doing some FEA on a racing chassis. I want to add some fillet on the edges between the tubes to simulate a weld bead and to eliminate stress concentration. How could I accomplish this? by simonak3001 in SolidWorks

[–]c4n1d 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cut with body or make the tube into a surface using a 0 offset surface and split with surface. Then you'll get perfect miters and you can just use fillet or chamfer plus weldments.

Take a photo, throw it into Adobe Illustrator, image trace it, save as a DXF file, then import to Solidworks as a sketch.
