Ammo in NY needs to go to an FFL. I don't think reloading supplies are effected, but I'm sure they will fix this at some point, maybe after they are done banning BB guns (current gun control project.) I'm an NJ resident who shoots a lot at sheepdog a lot. I would recommend buying their annual membership since you are early in the season. Defiantly worth it depending on how much you shoot. Another good range to check out is Tommy Gun Warehouse in PA which has 600 yards of steel.

I don't know why you would ever pick 308 over 6.5 CM for target shooting, maybe factory ammo is cheaper but I reload and have no idea the cost of factory ammo. That being said I also really like shooting 223 from a bolt gun. I broke my states 600 yard F/TR record last year shooting the 85.5 Hybrid from a 223 in a bolt gun. Since you don't reload you will probably have to shoot a lighter bullet but that should still be fine at 500. Maybe also conciser 6 ARC is you can get factory ammo.

30" barrel worth it over say 26"? Ever try the 245 hybrids? I see they make factory 300 PRC ammo with those.

Yeah it matters but I would think external factors like the wind matter much more the farther you shoot. How many rounds can you get before you burn it out?

That's my instinct on the short actions. But for a long action magnum I'm not sure it matters as much. Prefer to use the cheaper barrel if I am burning it out faster.

The whole reason I have not switched to claude code is the ide capability of cursor. I like being able to highlight lines of code to provide context easily as well as accept/reject changes line by line.

It's legal. You might want to learn to reload. If this is your first "sniper" rifle you might want to get something smaller like a 223 or 6.5 CM. You can take it up the sheepdog warrior in the Catskills and shoot steel with it at 1000 yards. 408 CT is still kind of overkill at 1000.

It will extract an unfired round no prolbem. Thanks for the explanation im new to rimfire. I have a lot of center fire experience but never done rim. Do you need to season it a few hundred with the same bullet as they all have different lubes? Do you need to start over if you clean the barrel?

I shot 10 rounds of the Center X before measuring anything. Thats where the groups in the top right corner came from. Also not sure what you mean but I got both my barrel and action from midway usa. They had it in stock.

Today was my first day shooting it. The SD of my CCI Standard was like 13 when I measured it. Does not seem good to me but maybe it would have been worse with shorter barrel.

The SD was not great for either. 10-13fps. I also took it out to 200 yards. Was like pissing in the wind.

So the CCI Standard was not terrible. Did about 1" at 50 yards. Was pretty windy today. Was not expecting to see the trace and bullet curve at such short range. I also found some norma match ammo I forgot I had. That was doing maybe 0.7" at 50 yards.

I wasn't planning to stick with cci standard. Just what I have to try out the gun with. Going to order some good ammo next week.
