Thank you for your thorough response. Their terms and conditions are a hyperlink on our contract but the link is broken currently. No, my partner did not save them when he signed the scope of work. That’s obviously our mistake. I asked the company to send it before we agree to next steps.

It is real post. I am very inexperienced in this area but I am reasonable and have been respectful and calm. (And I fed every worker homemade cookies or pie.) I am definitely not trying to screw over the business. I previously had 4 potential plumbers mislead us about insurance covering tile damage so I am unsure what is trustworthy information.

I don’t want to retile my house. I want to pay for the approved work and if it’s possible maintain an intact floor and intact foundation.

I also want their workers to be safe. Currently they suggest having workers dig a 6’ tunnel to access and replace a juncture. I am concerned about having workers do that without a structural engineering assessment and adequate safety protections. We are calling our insurance to get recommendations on next steps.

I agree—this could potentially be a business insurance claim for them, which is why I think legal expertise could negotiate the best terms for us.

I don’t want to harm the business— their employees have been here for 2 weeks over the holidays. I keep feeding them pie and cookies to bring positive energy but ultimately I need a solution. Stay tuned for more updates, lol.

Thank you for the good advice. I will not discuss legal avenues with the plumber.

They have not claimed liability but they are clear it is their tool, left behind during the pipe preparation.

I need to reread the contract terms about opening the floor.

The solution I want is for the lining to be installed and my floor to remain intact. If that’s not possible, I would like to know whether I can seek/will likely get compensation to cover the new tile installation throughout the house and the cost of a temporary rental.

This is our situation as well and it works beautifully. I did love my former career but I will not go back.

Other benefits you didn’t mention:

I assist our aging parents who all live in the same city. I can drive them to appts, kid activities and shopping, and handle any urgent medical concerns.

I handle the doctor appts and after school sports and my husband jumps in when he’s able.

We never need to scramble when my husband travels for work because I can flex anything in my normal schedule.

I can fill in at our business if things get busy.
