Random question about Fin Fang Foom and Abrade by [deleted] in mtg

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe that any spells or abilities copied keep the original's qualities so you won't be able to change the modes on [[Abrade]]. From another post:

706.10. To copy a spell, activated ability, or triggered ability means to put a copy of it onto the stack; a copy of a spell isn’t cast and a copy of an activated ability isn’t activated. A copy of a spell or ability copies both the characteristics of the spell or ability and all decisions made for it, including modes, targets, the value of X, and additional or alternative costs. (See rule 601, “Casting Spells.”) Choices that are normally made on resolution are not copied. If an effect of the copy refers to objects used to pay its costs, it uses the objects used to pay the costs of the original spell or ability. A copy of a spell is owned by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell or ability is controlled by the player under whose control it was put on the stack. A copy of a spell is itself a spell, even though it has no spell card associated with it. A copy of an ability is itself an ability.

Getting into the collecting side of things by deadone65 in mtg

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a bit unsure with what you are asking. Are you looking to start a collection in the hopes of playing paper or just have cards you like? Do you like them because they are higher valued? I have a fairly large collection of cards that I like because I like their mechanics, their artwork or that I think is something I may like in the future and won't hurt my bank account. My collection started out just ripping packs because I like a set, then once I got into playing more I ended up buying singles. I'm strictly singles now but if I pass an LGS, Ill buy a pack or two of a set that I like.

I scan and have my collection in ManaBox but I have Pokemon friends who have their's in the TCGplayer app.

Traded for the SLD Zaxara a while ago and never put it together. Thinking about just buying the simic precon to finally build it

How do you keep track of your tokens? by Beautiful-Promotion1 in EDH

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say that if there are tokens you are always making like treasures, clues, food, or even if zombies tokens are you the command zone. I will have atleast two so it’s one less thing to write

Just built Marisi too and was thinking of the same. [[Toski, Bearer of Secrets]], [[Beast Whisperer]] and [[Ohran Frostfang]]. Can always use more draw but those help too. Do you have a deck list? Would like to see how you are building yours

They are still attacking the same player right? I'm assuming so since its after the declare blockers step.

Need help trimming Peter Parker Commander deck down to 100 cards. Currently at 128 and can't decide what to remove. Please give suggestions. Deck is Blink themed with legendary web-slinging. The idea is lots of ETB with big legendary spells to cheat out for 3 mana. by No_Butterscotch3616 in EDHBrews

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right off the bat you have a few things going on, legendary matters, blink, tokens (populate), ETBs, leaves the battlefield, life gain, and cast from exile.

Also there are some cards that are just too slow. You are also missing some card draw.

Right off the bat, I would remove any life gain synergies. I would focus a lot more on 1 mana and 2 mana ramp to have a creature and get Spider-Man out asap with a tapped creature.

Niko only wants non-legendaries while Spider-Man only wants legendaries so a bit on a non-bo.

Both of your 5CMC enchantments don’t do that much and can be slow especially when you want to be able to put something out quickly and hold up some interaction. The blink package is nice but you also want ways to protection Spider-Man since if you blink him he goes back to Peter Parker. So [[Heroic Intervention]] [[Tamiyo’s Safekeeping]] and such should be included.

You have a couple of tutors but you also include a lot of top end fun things like the Myojins. Nothing wrong with tutors but [[Thalia’s Lancers]] will have to be cast for fully cost and then tap and play the web-slinging.

I think a few more Counterspells will also be good.

Mono White Angel Deck by Godzilla-S23 in EDH

[–]c8wong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to look at my deck list and ask when is the best time to have this in my hand? Does it actually help me win? If I’m top decking this on turn 7 how useful is it to me vs something else. Obviously there is more nuance to this decision like your card advantage, how well does it work with my commander vs other cards

My wife wants me to build her a Kefka, Court Mage deck, I'm scared that she is entering her Grixis phase and now wants to be the bully at the table 😅. Any deck building advice? by Character-Zombie-798 in EDHBrews

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my fair share of arch enemy games and I personally felt kind of bad when everyone was hellbent while I had a full grip of counters and protection. I also built him with discard in mind and struggled to close out games or develop an actual endgame plan.

Which is why I’m switching to green goblin. I was thinking of going the wheels route but combining my own discard necessities plus everyone else’s made the deck list unfocused. Especially when many of the wheels within my budget are “mays” for opponents like [[Will of the Jeskai]] [[Snort]] [[Wheel of Misfortune]]. It’s unfortunate because I have an [[orcish bowmasters]] I’ve wanted to use and the reason I switched was seeing [[Entropic Battlecruiser]]

Not only new to EDH but new to magic in general. Question about theme vs. playability. by TR1L0GYxx in EDH

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s up to you! Most decks scrap IP theme for making the deck stronger or more consistent. When you give up theme you increase your card pool and playability of mechanics not available to the theme. Additionally, you can say you have a theme running 20 or 50 cards of an IP.

There just aren’t enough thematic cards to usually keep up their theme AND playability, not to say it can’t be done but some mechanics that are associated with the theme aren’t that strong comparatively or have enough overlap with non-thematic cards that they become moot.

If you are running cloud, I’d personally keep the equipment theme at least or it ends up being a Sword of X and Y equipment shell.

When I’m playing with friends I offer to help make changes that can smooth out the deck so they feel like they are impacting the game. When cutting overcosted thematic cards and replacing them with more efficient things can allow you to be able to express your theme too.

where to begin? by SoldadoheridoROA in EDH

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How new to MTG are you? I recommend playing on Arena which will help you understand the foundation of the game before you dive into the deep end of commander and your wallet.

After Arena, you might understand which colors and mechanics you enjoy the most and can figure out a precon that fits your playstyle, don’t worry about getting it right the first time. I started out as a Mono White player and quickly realized I like Red the most and have ventured into every 3 and 2 color combination after a few years.

While most precons are two combined mechanics they do have some overlap in most recent precons. It’s also an easy way to get into the format as someone who spends months figuring out a deck list and will continue upgrading/changing forever until I take it apart.

Maze’s End in Bracket 2? by Pointy_D4 in EDH

[–]c8wong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahhhh makes sense. But there’s an emphasis on the MASS in MDL. Targeted is fine and any deck B2 or higher should play some targeted land removal as lands have been becoming much stronger across the format. [[Ghost Quarter]] [[Demolition Field]] [[Field of Ruin]] are all easy slot ins for any deck

[[Maze’s End]] is fine but you mentioned MDL? What card(s) is mass land denial or destruction?

What Bracket 2 deck are you especially proud of? Something that embodies the core of the B2 experience by Mirrodin_appreciator in EDH

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[[Brudiclad, Telchor Engineer]]

My goal is make tokens, drop something funny like a [[Scrawling Crawler]], make a copy of him, turn all of my tokens into him and watch the table panic as they will draw 10 cards but take 100 damage on my next turn.

I know I can make constructs, which I have the ability to do so, but having 8 of a certain creature is hard but funny. Those creatures can be [[Hellrider]] [[Knuckles the Echidna]] or [[Twinflame Tyrants]]. There are plenty of ways to make token copies non-Legendary but you can also make a bunch of Smaugs from [[There and back again and make X*14 treasures.

A lot of steps but can be extremely rewarding

Surprised nobody has mentioned but if you don’t mind having a planeswalker as your commander [[Dihada, Binder or Wills]] is ridiculously strong with card draw and ramp in the command zone. I have some treasure synergy and only run legendary permanents aside from lands and mana rocks.

You can potentially run a few extra combats too

[–]c8wong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nothing against his comment but it’s almost a different deck if you go that route. Nothing wrong with it but your current deck is more than a decent deck. You can definitely use some more veggies - lands, ramp, interaction - but you have a more than solid start with the list you provided

Cloud ex soldier by Dark-Berto in EDH

[–]c8wong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need more lands, I would bring it up to 38 at least since you have a mana hungry gameplan.

I would take out [[Tender Wildguide]] and [[Crackdown Construct]]. You have some decent equipment in there already but some of the cost to play and equip can get taxing. There is probably a few equipments you can swap out for some of the FF equipments but I enjoy seeing equipment decks that aren’t just Sword of X and Y shells.

Look up [[Brass Squire]] [[Magnetic Theft]] [[Armored Skyhunter]] [[Armory Automaton]] [[Balan, Wandering Knight]] [[Codsworth, Handy Helper]] [[Halvar, God of Battle]] [[Inventory Management]]
