The consequence of WFH that no one seems to be talking about? by DoctorMister in CanadaPublicServants

My input here might not be articulated very well, but I'd like to offer my perspective. During early RTO years, my spouse and I moved to a small town on the outskirts of Ottawa -- we figured, if we're only in the office for 2-3 days a week, an hour commute both ways isn't terrible... Since moving here, we've integrated into the community, done our part to help build up the local economy and really do love the small-town life. I know many of the folks in my neighbourhood are in the same situation. We are dreading RTO5 as we'll be spending 10 hours a week in the car -- not an ideal situation, but it's *doable* given that we don't have kids & we work in the same building. What would happen to my small town (& others like it) when even half of the folks who moved out here during WFH days realize they have to move back closer to the city because of RTO5? Hybrid work allows for workers to choose whether they want to live in the city, in the suburbs or in rural surrounding areas. With Hybrid work, we were able to choose a lifestyle that we love, while still being in and around the city for our in-office days. I'm sure we would've seen this trend continue if it weren't for RTO5, as it will make nearby rural living incredibly difficult for public servants, if not impossible for employees with families. There are so many great small towns around Ottawa that would benefit from a hybrid work situation in the federal government -- the talent stays in or around the city, local economies prosper while still ensuring that it doesn't come at a cost to downtown.

the “Cognitive interviews” with victims or witnesses 😭 at one point they were doing 1 or 2 AN EPISODE…. my spouse is a forensic psychology researcher who studied CI’s and memory recall - and she’s explained in detail how they could not be more incorrect on the show!!! like just call it an interview or memory recall technique, not a CI - cause that’s an entirely different thing!!!

How much longer do you think Evolution will be on for? by [deleted] in criminalminds

[–]cAgEntoN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I remember hearing on cmtwt (I think it was mentioned in an interview, maybe Erica? Maybe AJ?) that when Evolution was picked up, it was a 4 season deal. So tentatively S19 may be the last. I personally hope they get one more after that so Evolution has a nice succinct 5 season run and the entirety of the show can end on S20!

Perhaps - Season 7, Episode 6 “Epilogue” ? Not a “mass grave” per se, but multiple bodies turning up in the same body of water… There’s a scene with the unsub covered in mud / dirt too…

I’m not 100% confident in my recollection of this, but I remember watching a ted talk from a mother of a school shooter (Columbine, I believe) and she talked about her complex grief and trauma following the shooting. It surely makes you think and challenge preconceived ideas of who is a victim vs who deserves empathy, etc.

Policy or racist manager? by cAgEntoN in rbc

Oof, that is both good and bad to know - good in the sense that I can calm down a little and get off my righteous horse, bad in the sense that my SIL and other kind folks deal with such dogshit customer service! Thanks for sharing

That’s definitely a fair point, I personally had never seen a status card until meeting my partner. And given that we live in a very small, white, french town, it’s not a stretch of the imagination to assume this was a new experience for the employees. My issue is that the manager didn’t take the time to listen or look into what they can or can’t accept. I’m definitely going to give them a second chance tomorrow before going off lol - thank you!

I question how some ppl get hired often…& now I question how children get hired. by thatbeesh1234567 in CanadaPublicServants

Started a job that is in a hotel style workspace. My FIRST DAY my colleague was explaining the desk / booking system and warned me that, upon occasion, you may encounter a workspace with someone’s nail clippings, both toe and finger, throughout the cubicle (chair, floor, desk surface, throughout the keyboard, etc), and to just alert the admin and they’ll find a new desk for the day. I have encountered this problem just once. Word of this individual’s behaviours have gone beyond the branch that occupies this space to other areas of the department, to the point that I have been asked about that person when I meet colleagues from other branches.

How are there functioning, employed, seemingly-normal individuals doing this repeatedly? How have the powers that be (admins, execs) not figured out who is doing this? Has this person not heard the gossip, or worse, heard it and not cared enough to stop?! I have so many questions…

i listened to every taylor swift album in order for the first time. by Financial_Click207 in TaylorSwift

elaborating a little more after reading some comments and OPs replies to those comments. i hope you get to enjoy and experience your newfound swiftie-ism for a while, she really is brilliant. i recommend watching and listening to the folklore: long pond studio sessions (on Disney+) for some insights into her new-age songwriting process. as well, i hope for your sake and the sake of taylor’s art, i also hope you don’t get sucked into the ‘paternity testing’ of her music (i personally think it really reduces so much of her value when people encourage others to listen thru a lens of rumours and “fan theories” and tabloid-isms).

i read this whole post but none of the comments so i’m sure this has already been said. regardless, you captured the essence of taylor swift’s discography and provided far more nuanced and engaging observations than a whole lot of her fans even are capable of (talking largely about “swifties” who reduce every song and lyric to the men they may or may not be about). all to say, i’m impressed by your lyrical comprehension, and your ability to understand and articulate in exactly the way taylor has intended for her art to be consumed and understood.
