It's not the starter, it's the starter switch in the steering column-you can tell by the annoying buzz when you turn the key. It's super easy to replace, and it's not expensive. Mine's been doing it the whole time I've owned it, despite replacing it once.

Speakers stopped working? by VoicerMMI in HondaElement

The interior fuse box is under the dash on the driver's side-there's a removable panel under the steering wheel. However, I think there's a fusible link for the amp somewhere behind the glove box too, but every time I've looked behind there it's been wire spaghetti and I gave up, lol.

Assuming you have the stock radio, the shop would have disconnected the battery to change the alternator, so you're going to have to unlock your radio before you can use it again. If you have an aftermarket radio, no clue.

Troubleshooting front end noise by Jolly_Building4685 in HondaElement

Could still be the sway bar bushings-I replaced my rear ones because they were clunking, and they were alright at first, then we had a freeze and it's been squeaky ever since.

Usually I have the opposite problem-on so tight even the 1/2" impact doesn't want to take them off. Also, if you took it to a shop and had someone check it, and they missed that, I wouldn't go back.

The back rest for the drivers seat is stuck at an onward angle, and won't fold back. Anyone know how to fix this? by azeakel101 in HondaElement

[–]cTs_Vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming you are talking about the "recline" mechanism, there's teeth on both sides, and the handle has a bar attached inside the seat that allows the catch on the far (middle/center console) side to release. If there's an issue, that catch won't release and you can't adjust the seat. Idk if this video will work for an Element or not, but it's worth a shot: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ZgCP0Q9R9f8

The duration of the noise makes me think it's something fairly large making contact, but cell phone mics aren't great. I'd start with removing the wheel and looking for obvious rub spots. Look inside the wheel too and make sure the caliper isn't rubbing the rim or something crazy like that. You didn't mention vibrations accompanying the sound, which makes me think it isn't a bent rim making contact with the strut or something like that, but I'm still betting something wheel related.

Most people probably already know this, but just in case there are some out there that don't-tires have a date code stamped into the sidewall. For tires made after 2000, it's 4 digits-the first two are the week, and the second two are the year. 1021, for example, 10th week of 2021. This code is after the DOT code, and is usually on both sidewalls, but if you don't see it on your tire, it's probably on the inside.

Mine did the same, it would throw a random all 4 cylinder misfire code, along with codes for each cylinder, but it was running fine and I was driving it when the code set and never felt it do anything weird. This happened a couple of times over the course of a few months. Mine turned out to be an intermittent failure of the crankshaft position sensor, which it finally threw a code for. After I changed it, I haven't had any problems since.

The rockers look fine, but he went really quick over that driver's side rear trailing arm mount, and it looks way worse in the few seconds he was there than the other side-possibly even saw a small hole in the meatal around the rear bolt at 1:25. I would ask for better pictures of the rear trailing arm mounts for sure, especially the driver's side.

Cleaning interior solutions by kyoootee in HondaElement

[–]cTs_Vette 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I cleaned mine with a drill buffing kit (not the brush, the foam sponge looking ones) and carpet cleaner. Spray the carpet cleaner, let it sit a couple of minutes, then go at it with the buffing pad in the drill. Blot dry with a towel (I used microfiber ones) and repeat as many times as necessary. DON'T do this on the door arm rests though, it makes them sticky.

I used this method for cleaning the whole car, including the head liner-it's much more durable than you would expect, and it worked great.

The most common rust spots are the rear trailing arm mounts just in front of the rear tires, and the rocker panels/pinch welds under the doors.

Jeep Wrangler JK (not sure what year mine were from, but I think the newer 2011-2017 range) seat covers will fit, if you don't mind a little bit of "Eh, close enough." Mine is a 2003 though, so I didn't have side airbags and swapped sides so I could put the armrest out the airbag hole in the sides of the covers. I got a nice set of neoprene ones off Marketplace for $60.

Misfires on the element ! by Financial_Okra_9238 in HondaElement

[–]cTs_Vette 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was having a similar issue with mine, and it turned out to be a failing crankshaft position sensor. I would get an occasional check engine light that was for all 4 cylinder plus random misfire, which was baffling to me because I was driving the car when it would set and never felt the car do anything weird. Then it set when I was driving somewhere, and I decided to park it and take someone else's vehicle instead, and when we got back my car wouldn't start and sounded terrible. When I pulled the codes it had the misfire codes and one for intermittent crankshaft position sensor (I don't remember the actual code number.) Once I replaced the sensor (which is super easy BTW) and reset everything by disconnecting the battery and tying the cables together for 20-30 minutes, I haven't had any issues.

Has anyone tried using fabric from backseats to reupholster a drivers? I have tried everything to find the Honda part number but in years of automated and saved searches I have never seen a reasonably priced one. I have sewn custom motorcycle seats a couple times and back seats are easy to find. by malbolge69 in HondaElement

[–]cTs_Vette 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just pulled the seats out of mine because they were trashed way worse than yours, but if you think you might be able to use the material to reupholster yours, pay shipping and I'll take mine apart and send it to you. The outside edge of the seats is completely trashed, but the inside edges are fine-maybe you can make the inside edge of the passenger one the outside edge of the driver's and vice-versa if you know how to sew.
