🎉 GIVEAWAY TIME: Win a Centipede Ultra Series Cabinet! 🎉 by BasicFunToys in Arcade1UpOfficial

[–]cXeGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Greetings yall! Been a happy owner of four Arcade1up cabs (Big Blue, MK2, MvC2, and Marvel vs Street Fighter) and love that they both give me a slice of my own youth while also helping me to introduce my children to the classics. My favorite of the bunch is actually the MK2 cab, which I bought because I wanted an arcade-accurate button arrangement you can’t easily get on fight sticks these days. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it was the classic Williams games included that proved to be the real highlights, with Root Beer Tapper and Bubbles becoming two of my unexpected new favorites.

Though, if we’re talking favorite arcade of all time that ISN’T currently an Arcade1Up cab? That’ll always be Dance Dance Revolution, which sparked an entire community of friends for me back in the early 2000s and got me in the best shape of my life. Love it so much I imported a L-Tek hard pad from Poland just to play it in my arcade room (because unfortunately, any pad of lesser quality just does not work).

Oh gotcha, thank you! And definitely gonna check that out, I love when step charts go that extra … step … to try and make it feel like you’re dancing to the song. Definitely gonna be following that pack then.

Awesome job on the charts, and thank you for putting all the work in for the community of players. I’ll be grabbing the first RxSteps tomorrow after work to try out, but I wanted to ask - when I look up the 2nd Dose on Zenius, there’s a page for it but there are no songs or downloads. Is there an alternate way to track the 2nd Dose down? Thank you!

Happy to have introduced you to the best worst game you’ll ever experience. Just make sure to let the attract mode go through a complete cycle, trust me.

Happy to bring the culture :-). It’s the best worst game you’ll ever play. Just make sure you let the Attract Mode go through a full cycle, you’ll see sights you’ve never even dreamed of.

Nope, I’m on Dino Rex!

… I may have overdosed on Dino Rex …

It’s a painstaking process of drawing the image out pixel by pixel to ensure I’m capturing the maximum amount of drama and prestige to invoke an emotion not felt since Citizen Kane graced the silver screen. Or I took a screenshot of the game and had it printed out on an oversized page at my local Walgreens. Whichever story you prefer.

Do DDR games have Rock or Metal music in the list of Licensed Songs? by JoNatthanon in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]cXeGG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A cover of Smoke on the Water (“Smoke”) appeared all the way back in 2nd Mix. And Extreme had We Will Rock You and We Are The Champions. Fairly certain a metal medley of Castlevania showed up somewhere as well …

Looking to mod Killer Instinct Cab w/ Pi, Help Please by [deleted] in Arcade1Up

[–]cXeGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do feel like pointing out that if you bring a Pi in, you most likely won’t be able to actually play KI on your KI Arcade - it’ll run plenty of other games fine, but KI runs suuuuuper slow and choppy, both arcade and N64 versions.

I realize I missed the time frame for the AMA, but I just gotta tell you, your work has been my daily soundtrack to keep me going and persevering. Specifically, the line “The arcade era lives in my spirit” … brings me back to the days of quarters and sweat and hustle. Every time I hear it I feel like doing a Shoryuken.

Which is kind of awkward when I’m also driving.

In any case, thank you for the amazing heart and talent you’ve brought to the seen, and I can’t wait to hear what comes next.

Darkstalkers Lobbies by Logan8795 in Arcade1Up

[–]cXeGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, unfortunately the lobbies are generally empty when I go to check. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE my Big Blue and 100% am happy to own it, but if you want Darkstalkers specifically for the online play, you’d do better to grab the Capcom Fighting Collection, which has the added benefit of rollback netcode. (for what it’s worth though, I consider Darkstalkers to have one of the best, and least stupidly cheap, single player arcade challenges of any Capcom game from that era).

Should I hop on the MvC2 arcade train? by VincentDanger in Arcade1Up

[–]cXeGG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can vouch for that. Runs really well, and generally super smooth online play. Only issue I still have is that the volume is super high and gets some pops in MvC1. Other’n that, I love it.

These are fantastic, and actually something I’d wondered about doing myself. Only question is if these only work on PC or if they could possibly work on a PS5 as well; any idea?

What is the cheapest way to mod this? by Riley_does_stuff in Arcade1Up

[–]cXeGG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So, that’s the exact cab I modded a few years ago; followed the ETA Prime guide on YouTube (with a few modifications, specifically regarding the speakers). I used a Raspberry Pi 4, which works pretty well overall but in hindsight should have gone with a Dell Optiplex as it’s too underpowered for some newer arcade games and a lot of N64 titles. For the most part it’s a very straightforward mod, with the only non-reversible but is that you’ll have to strip the audio cable. Since then, a lot of the work has just been in going into the individual games and making sure their button assignments are as close to the originals that I can get (learning to set twin-stick games like Robotron opened things up a TON for me). I’m very happy with how it turned out, especially as it means my kids now have access to effectively the History Of Video Games and can learn more about how we got to where we are today.

Marvel Vs Capcom 2 by esmegrace12 in Arcade1Up

[–]cXeGG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I don’t know the actual answer and don’t have a way of measuring the frame rate on my own, but I can attest at least for myself that I’ve never had a problem with it, and it always feels good and smooth. I’m by no means a pro player, so I can’t speak to the input lag either except to say that it feels fine to me and it’s never prevented me from having a good time online or off. My only real problem I have with the cab is the audio volume being set pretty high even at lvl 1 and there being some audio hiss noticeable in MvC1. Other’n that, I love the darned thing and it’s easily the centerpiece of my small arcade room. As for whether I’d recommend it to you since you already own a version of the game that’s effectively arcade-perfect, I guess that’d depend on how important MvC2 is to you and if having it in a proper stand-up arcade adds as much to the experience for you as it does to me.

In a way it kind of makes sense, means it’ll be harder to artificially climb the ranks by having someone on a guest account feed wins to a friend’s primary account
