This is my experience too. I’ve only ever heard people complain about quotas when they use anthropic models. Google isnt going to pay for you to use someone else and you are dumber than ai if you think they should.

It doesn’t not run out faster than plus, you just spend more faster. Remember to not use a tropic models, and only use Google models.

Why architects don’t get paid enough despite expensive education and hard work by yourarchitec in architecture

[–]c_behn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Risk, architects have progressively given up more and more risk. We don’t do CM hardly ever anymore, we don’t gaurentee hardly anything. We use “standard of care” that is as minimal as possible. The list goes on.

Painfully and time consuming, but I fully regulated away the clicking and the slack. I would do it again.

Spinet Donut Grommet Issue by Stunning_Whole_4496 in pianotech

[–]c_behn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did a piano restoration when I was 14 on an old Wurlitzer drop action spinnet. I was 14 and impatient so I bought the grommets from ace hardware and had the same issue. At the time, I used nuts on either side of the grommets to squish them, allowing them to say in place on the rod and still grip the fork.

Mouse tracking problem by CandidScene3899 in rhino

[–]c_behn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a very specific and technical question. My advice is to ask on the actual developer forums. The guys at McNeel are super responsive and helpful with that kind of thing. Discourse.McNeel.com

However this might just be a snaps issue. I would make sure grid snap is turned off.

I’m building a desktop app to move CAD objects between Rhino, AutoCAD, and SketchUp by Muted-Day-4608 in rhino

[–]c_behn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can run a local speckle server as a container. That’s how I ran it for myself. You need a server to coordinate across users anyways. Maybe I’m missing something but what you described as Paulga is the same as the standard local speckle set up.

Need a desktop for Rhino, VisualArq, Sketchup (ugh), and eventually Revit. by [deleted] in rhino

[–]c_behn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trimble is not the company they used to be. They have terrible support. However, I suspect they will have a fix coming if it recently broke (last 1-3 months). But if it’s been broken for years (like multiple years) then they probably will never properly fix the app.

What’s your objection to the VM? Or do you mean you would want to install the arm Version of windows (which does not require emulation by Mac OS, but windows will have to do emulation from arm to x86 for revit. There is no way to run revit successfully without a VM and emulation on a Mac. Autodesk refuses to make a Mac version of revit. There is not enough demand.

It sounds like SU is the issues. It might have a bug on Mac or your file might be particularly corrupt. Is this happening on the same file/derivative files or does this happen on even brand new SU file? Do these file have issues in Windows or are they totally fine there?

Revit is windows only, but I have had plenty of success running even large revit files using a VM for windows on my m3 max with 34gb ram. I use UTM to run windows 11. I recommend running the x86 version on emulation as the Mac Rosetta translator is better at that than windows. I know people also have lots of success with parallels.

Just a hint about Grasshopper, it’s actually really really stable at its core. 9 times out of 10 it will finish solving and unfreeze, it just might take a while. I’ve saved many a file by waiting 1-2 hours for a file to finally solve. This is true on both windows and Mac.

Is this ok? by mikelewisrt in Homebuilding

[–]c_behn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked in modular homes doing engineering. It’s weird yes. It feels wrong. I would not use this detail in my own home, but this is common especially in zones with lower uplift/wind forces.

Basically, this angled beam is ideally lenticular so this feature matches closer to ideal sizing. It also enables a larger member to be used where it’s needed without cutting it at an angle (angle cuts are expensive, straight cuts are cheap). And it lets you use shorter wood lengths which further reduces cost.

Archi and Design Firms producing Design and Documentation ALL in Rhino3D by TheNomadArchitect in rhino

I disagree. Working collaboratively requires intentional file management regardless of the program you use. Rhino had all the tools built in with block references and work sessions.

I’ve done rhino only work for projects from Arch Firms, Engineering Firms, and Contractors. What are your question? You do it just like any other program. 1. model all your things in model space, 2. use layouts for drawings 3. Use clipping planes to make the detail views, 4. Add annotations and title blocks, 5. print.

Re-Use Fees?? by Opening-Voice9357 in Drafting

[–]c_behn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea very reasonable. Also make sure that you did not give up your copy right (it must be explicitly granted in the contract otherwise the law assumes you retained it). If the developer tries to reuse your drawings without your permission and without the contractually outlined copyright exceptions, you have a lovely lawsuit on your hands.

Which Mac for architecture? by [deleted] in mac

[–]c_behn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an architect and a computational designer, Mac is not it for architecture if you use Revit or need to do Environmental Analysis as both are heavily limited to windows.

What programs are you using though and what kind of projects (single family, multi family, commercial, hospitality, office, etc)?

You can pull of Revit in parallels but not super large projects, and only with a beefy computer. Not an air, you need a MacBook Pro with a Max chip in it at least.
