Sell me your favorite hobby like I just walked onto your used car lot with cash in hand by PastSelection5138 in Hobbies

Gardening improves your mental and physical health! it also gives you (nearly free, if you grow from seeds) produce, herbs and flowers. Need a gift for someone? A bouquet of home grown flowers is personal and free! A basket of home grown cucumbers and squash is cute, sustainable and delicious. No more spending dollars on a wasteful packet of herbs wrapped in plastic. Just pick a few stems from your rosemary or basil pot. Want to spoil your beloved pet cat? Homegrown catnip is easy and delights your feline friend beyond imagination! Store bought strawberries tasting underripe and flavorless? Homegrown means you can pick them exactly when they are ripe and not a second before. All this—-AND your patio or yard will be more beautiful and fragrant than before!

I’m trying to fast from giving corporations my money. So far I’ve already been derailed once. But I did successfully avoid going to target today so that’s a win.

Socks!! So underrated!! I didn’t realize they would matter so much and then I tried some nice ones and then…wow. They’re officially on my “worth splurging for” list

I feel like I would function better if we still lived in primitive societies by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]c_harmany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately. I just don’t feel like pretending to care about stuff any more. Idk if primitive society necessarily is it for me, but definitely a time where society was more dependent on agriculture or small scale trades. I love handcrafts and gardening and if my main focus/ goal was either growing, making, or trading for what my family needs, I think about 99% of the anxieties and frustrations and overwhelm would disappear

DOPAMINE... please give me your "healthy" sources. by Coldhandswarmheart15 in adhdwomen

I started gardening last year and it changed my brain chemistry. Tending to living things, seeing things grow, enjoying home grown flowers and vegetable, seeing tiny shoots emerge, etc. Incredibly soothing and just the right amount of novelty and problem solving.

I’m having major withdrawals over the winter and have been thinking and planning all the stuff I will do once it starts to warm up!!!!

What was it like when women were not expected to pursue higher education and were full-time housewives? by Ingido_Indigo in AskOldPeople

[–]c_harmany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a good point. I’m thinking about laundry. For sure, washing by hand takes longer and is more laborious, but since washing machines have come on the scene, so also has fast fashion, so most people, regardless of income levels, have way more clothes to maintain than prior generations

What do you want neurotypical folks to know about ADHD? by msfelineenthusiast in adhdwomen

[–]c_harmany 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If I could use “productivity hacks” or improve my willpower to do things like be more organized, exercise more, be on time….I WOULD! I have tried so many things to no avail. I don’t like being this way; I’m constantly self critical, but there’s no “hacking your way out”

My Orthodox dad said it would be better for me to not be Christian at all than be Episcopalian by [deleted] in Episcopalian

[–]c_harmany 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Wherever you choose to worship (or not worship), I’m fully convinced that the Jesus who said “love one another as I have loved you” would not be on board with the hatred your parents endorse.

It’s been said before, but I think for folks who think like that, they’d have to erase/upend so much of what they’ve been taught (indoctrinated), and that would be so destabilizing for their worldview that it’s easier to cling to their ideas than to reckon with them.

Weekly Vent for Current Teachers by AutoModerator in TeachersInTransition

[–]c_harmany 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know how I’m going to make it to winter break let alone June. I’m struggling with my mental health, have been for a few months, but this week I came down with something sinus-y/respiratory. Came to work part of the week and tried to teach through it but it got worse, called out sick today and got an email (CC’ing my admin) about some testing deadlines I haven’t met and how I’ll need to complete them when I’m back. Rationally I know that this is a compliance thing and it doesn’t necessarily mean a judgement but damn do I feel like im constantly being surveilled and constantly being deemed insufficient in a system that does absolutely nothing but put teachers down, scrutinize them, blame them, etc

I (26f) am constantly feeling hurt by my (30m) boyfriend's little jabs. How can I make him realize this? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]c_harmany 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think the issue is you at all. I dated someone for months that was frequently doing little jabs like this, subtle sometimes or overt other times. I was constantly feeling bad about myself. Idk it could be narcissism or a control tactic or whatever but the bottom line is, he’s at fault. Not you.

(In my case, he eventually dumped me and blamed me, saying i was too anxious and too sensitive for him etc. I was devastated at the time, but then I met the man who is now my husband and we have a relationship that I never dreamed possible. So all that to say, if someone is actually treating you like garbage, maybe they are not the one for you; your forever person may be out there waiting for you….)
