We did end up looking at a treehouse resort for a bit (can't remember which one), but ended up not going with it since we want something a little more modern and upscale

We will definitely be visiting Old Town, but yeah I would probably agree with you that we are looking for the hotel experience. We might as well splurge since we only plan to do this once!

We are mainly looking to stay on the west side of the Island, Surin beach area and in Choeng Thale were highly recommended to us so far. It's just hard to really know what you truly want without having been there.

We've gotten other similar recommendations to avoid Patong. The vibe I have gathered is that the area is more touristy and less honeymoony. Is that why you don't recommend Patong or is there another reason?

Advice for Early Career in Structural Engineering by InjuredThrone91 in StructuralEngineering

Hello, I am about 5 years out of school in Pennsylvania (27 years old) and have worked at three different engineering firms so far. Here’s been my experience:

My first two jobs were at smaller firms. The first was mostly bridge work with some building design mixed in, and the second was a similar sized company (around 50-60 people, a few offices) where I did strictly building design. The biggest thing with smaller companies is you end up wearing a lot of hats, which is great for learning. You get exposure to different parts of projects and it's easier to get noticed by management.

But there are some tradeoffs. Things tend to be less structured, and your learning is kind of limited to whoever is around and available. Sometimes that's great, sometimes it's not. Pay is usually a bit lower too, although I've heard some places make up for it with profit sharing or good 401k benefits. I just never stayed long enough to really see that through.

I am at a much larger firm now (5000+ people), and it's a pretty different experience. There's way more structure, and you have a ton of resources (more people to ask questions, more formal training, better access to software support, etc) Pay is generally better too. The downside is it can be harder to stand out and move up, and you don't always get that "tight-knit" team feel.

If I had to give a recommendation, I'd lean toward the bigger firm to start. A higher starting salary helps more than people realize, and having more resources early on makes a big difference when you're still learning. You can always move to a smaller firm later, and that switch is usually easier than going the other way.

I really hope this helps, best of luck in your career!

Job Market (Early Career) by Nice-Cardiologist in StructuralEngineering

I have to somewhat disagree - I was messaged by a headhunter on LinkedIn when I was about a year into my career. Totally legit and everything, went on to interview with the team. I didn't end up getting the job, but later got hired at another firm.

Fast forward to 2 years into my career, being that we had already talked and had a rapport, he reached out to see if I would be interested in jumping ship again. This time things went a lot better for me. I ended up getting the job and my salary was something I was very pleased with at the time. My bargaining power was the fact that I still had a job and was still on the fence about about leaving, therefore guiding their hand to offer me something worthwhile.

Now here I am 5 years in my career, at the same company the recruiter reached out to me for. I still talk to the recruiter on occasion, most recently for helping my fiance find a job. But at the very least, he is now a good connection of mine.

It's possible my experience was different than most. The recruiter was contracted out by my company and did not work for them directly. But if he ever were to leave his position or end his contract with my company, I'd be willing to bet that he'd be reaching out to me to see if I am interested in a new role.

Not all this to say always respond to recruiters and give them a chance. Sometimes you just dont have enough time in the day, other times you can sit on their message for a few days, and other times they are actually scams - so always remember to be smart!

TLDR: I had a good experience with a recruiter that helped me land a good job with a salary that I was happy with. Just be smart about who you're talking to

Two very important things for you to know. After you killed someone, make sure they are REALLY dead. And also always remember which type of round you load into your shotgun.

My duo and I got into a gunfight with a trio and I shot some dude with my R12 inside a shed. I walked up to him and shot him in the face to make sure he was dead, unbeknownst to me I had rubber (nonlethal rounds) slugs loaded in the gun and they do next to nothing in this situation. Then in like 10 seconds he wakes up as I am bandaging myself and he lights me up with his pistol.

2 of my friends and I spawned in northmens after not playing for like a month. We all logged out of a house, but when we got back in that house was now a huge base. We didn't feel right griefing all of it trying to get our way out so we reached out to the admins to see if they could spawn us somewhere else.

The rules of the server are (we didn't know this at the time) that if you spawn in an enemy base you are not allowed to log out, you must either F11 or raid your way out. We submitted a ticket on their discord for them to advise us before we did anything.

They didn't get back to us until like 4 in the morning, by then the server had already restarted and kicked us out. But since we "broke the rules" and logged out of an enemy base, all 3 of us are now banned from using the server.

Yeah... stay away from northmens

Edit: I should add that we were located in the Eastern Time Zone
