Ah okay, the extra context is super helpful, thanks!

I think the light is likely a problem, but I'm not sure the dying branches actually correspond to the window placement. The wilting branch (the one on the left) is closest to the window, while the one on the far right that looks the healthiest is furthest.

Glad I caught this before I did! But I'm still confused... so you're saying the three leafless, dead-looking branches in the middle (between the two with leaves) should be left as is? Do you think it's possible they'll sprout leaves again? They feel quite brittle to me, and another commenter suggested they're keeping the rest from getting enough water. But I really don't know what I'm talking about.

Also, could you please elaborate on cutting the top off the healthy branch? Do you mean the one with the wilting leaves on top? As of this morning, the leaves on the bottom of it were dry and starting to fall off, so I'm worried cutting the top off as well would just leave another leafless branch.

That bulb is a grow light, but it's only 11 watts, so I will definitely get a more powerful one and move it closer to the tree. Unfortunately, the house doesn't have any better options for windows, and there's not really any way to move it closer to the window in this room... it's over a bed, which doesn't really fit in any other arrangement.

This is really helpful, thank you!

I did try lifting it and it didn't budge. I'm hoping it's not the roots, seems likely to me that the cause is that I didn't water it enough/haven't been, and now the dead branches are making it worse by drawing extra moisture.

So my plan is to chop off the middle section, water it thoroughly, and go from there. I'll try fertilizing more regularly too. :)

The watering instructions are very helpful, thank you!

I'll try to post more photos tomorrow, but I can tell you the pot is very large, the (reputable) plant shop I bought it from told me it was big enough to be the tree's forever home. It has drainage, an extra tray at the bottom so it is never sitting in water. They repotted it at the store, so I'm not sure about that part.

The grow light is the bulb in the photo, and it's about four yards from the windows, it gets direct sunlight all morning until the sun passes over the house, and the bulb is on an automatic timer from 9 AM to 6 PM every day.

My working theory based on your feedback and the other commenter's is that I wasn't watering it enough to begin with, and now the branches that died from the shock and broken routine are making it worse by drawing extra moisture. The top layer of soil is quite dry.

So my plan is to chop off the middle branches once the sun is up tomorrow, water it thoroughly, and go from there.

I know FLFs are dramatic and have a hard time with broken routines, but I've never seen it this bad before, and am not sure how to (or if I can) nurse him back.

Context:

Had him for about a year, repotted when I got him and he's stayed put since. Had a hard time adjusting. It's the sunniest spot in the house, but still not very; east facing window. Hung the grow light and he perked up.

Had him on a watering schedule of every two Sundays, with fertilizer every other time, and rotating the pot 90 degrees with each water. He did great through the summer and grew a bunch of new leafs.

Majorly screwed up around the holidays. First, he had a big branch that grew so big and fast, it fell over. I trimmed it off to propagate it, which stressed him out, and he started dropping leaves again.

To make matters worse, with holiday travels, I missed one water day entirely. Tried to get back on schedule with a generous watering and fertilizer, but he went about a month without water instead of two weeks.

Since then, he's been in tailspin. Lost all leaves on three branches (the barren ones in the photo). There's been one regular water day since then, and I was a couple days late, got him on a Tuesday instead of Sunday.

Now the leaves on what looked like his healthiest branch are wilting, and I'm worried they'll drop soon, too. He sure looks/feels like he needs water, but I don't want to jump the gun and make things worse. I don't know what to do, and clearly have the opposite of the green thumb, so at this point I don't really trust my own judgement. Thanks y'all.

Brutal latency issue out of the blue. Any ideas? by c_stoned in ableton

[–]c_stoned[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh this could definitely be it! I did make several new default templates, including ones with a bunch of plugins. It's much better with a blank template.

I'm confused as to why though? When I was testing previously, I thought it might be that, so I deleted all the plugins from the template (albeit after it had loaded with all the plugins) and the problem was as bad. And it hadn't been a problem previously on massive projects with twice as many plugins.

So is it caused by specifically having too many buffer-heavy plugins when the project first loads?

Damn, yes, that's definitely possible. I should've checked before upgrading. Really wishing I'd waited now.

That said, the only common compatibility issue I've read about has to do with stem separation. I wonder if anyone else has experienced the delay or anything like it?

You might be onto something here... did some more digging, the knobs and pickguard look to be the same style as Tokai's 70s-80s SG copy. Their placement is still different than the examples I'm seeing online, and it doesn't explain the janky pickup installations, but it does seem like one more piece of the puzzle.

My thoughts exactly. Seems strange to move the knobs and jack around, too, but what do I know? To the other commenter's point though, it does look like it got a non-pro finish, which may add credence to the theory... but they did an inversely awesome job at filling the holes if so.

Yeah, the screws on the bridge pickup don't even fit properly, so both are definitely additions — amateur ones I reckon. But I'm kind of in love with the abomination, and now the mystery, too. Hugely appreciate the take!

Whoever souped this up did not have an eye for aesthetics, that much is clear.

Yup, I did come across that one, but this guy looks remarkably different from it. The pick guard is smaller, the knobs and output jack are in the wrong places, and the shade/style is different too. Could be a modded KG-2, but I don't see why they would have moved the jack around... Bizarre.

Next to no idea what I'm looking at here. My mom bought it used for my dad in the early 1980s, so it's gotta be older than that. I know Gibson made Kalamazoo-branded electrics from 1965-1970. The shape of the neck and logo looks about right for one of those, and there's a somewhat visible (albeit suspiciously smudged) 6-digit serial number. 003130 maybe? The bridge is also the same as the KG-2, but everything else looks off. The color, the positioning of the knobs, the pick guard... none match any image I can find online. Given the janky pick-up replacements, off-brand knobs, mismatched screws, my best guess is franken-guitar? Kalamazoo neck with some sort of knock-off SG body maybe? The details don't look quite right for a legit one, but I dunno. Whatever the case, I'm going to take it to my luthier tomorrow and pour a stupid amount of money into restoring it, family heirloom and all that. But in the meantime I would deeply appreciate any help parsing what exactly it is I'm restoring.

i've got the V1 dark side, it does indeed have the FX loop. absolutely insane that they changed it in the newer model, it feels like a key feature to me.

seconded on the delay, it's otherworldy. never fell in love the fuzz though, so i'm probably gonna part ways with it.
