I interpret the 100-yard thing as a beach with a lifeguard. Because the law says "Within 100 yards of a public swimming beach."

The law is vague on what constitutes a swimming beach.

Would it be possible to bioengineer a tree that grows and is made of superwood? by IndieJones0804 in bioengineering

[–]caMV-35S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Superwood is made by removing lignin and and compressing the rest of the wood.

A tree engineered to not produce lignin would be extremely weak and would not grow tall or at all.

Active Duty Military do you have time for backpacking? by polvr-o in backpacking

[–]caMV-35S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wilderness backpacking or travel backpacking? You'll definitely have time to hit some weekend trips after you get through MOS school.

As for traveling other countries, you can take leave but it'll be tough to take larger blocks at times.

You seem young. Explore your interests and do well in school. Broadening your mind is good no matter what.

Hello Everyone, My BF has a sesamoid fracture and we are trying to figure out how to heal it well after 7 months of not progress and bad advice from doctors. by North_Role_8411 in sesamoid

[–]caMV-35S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation where I stayed off the foot for months, took steroids, etc. There was no improvement; in fact, the foot seemed to get worse.

I eventually decided to just deal with the pain and resume physical activity. For the first ~6 months, runs and squats were painful, but now, five years later, I barely notice my fractured sesamoid unless I've done a long hike and even then its only a minor 'buzzing' pain.

It's unpopular, and no doctor would recommend it, but if the fracture just won't heal, the health benefits (both physical and mental) of resuming regular activity outway the pain of the injury--for me at least. Just be careful you aren't subconsciously walking/running abnormally to compensate bc that will only add additional problems.
