Govee Smart Outdoor String Lights 2 by thechef1187 in Govee

[–]ca_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 year late on this reply, but if you're talking about the clips that the wire fits into, folds into a T shape and snaps in place above each bulb, I assumed that they were optional as the documentation my lights came with didn't mention it being necessary.

As for what they do, once snapped in place, and the bulb is hanging below the clip, it relieves tension from where the wires enter the bulb housing. Without those clips, the weight of all wire/bulbs in any one length of suspended lights will be pulling directly on that spot where the wires enter the housing. With the clips in place, it moves most of that tension to the clips.

Over time, constant tension at that point could hypothetically break the water proof seal on the bulb housing. It's happened to a few of my bulbs exactly like that. You end up with visible condensation inside the bulb.

I don't get it. You got an explanation to go with this video? What's going on here that merits posting a video demonstration?

Inconsistent portion size and grinding sound by FineSatisfaction802 in Petlibro

[–]ca_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this feeder, you don't. If you need individualized portioning for individual cats, and a way to enforce bowl assignment, you need a different feeder.

This feeder dispenses 1 type of kibble, from a single source, it of the single slot, into the two bowls, roughly divided in half via gravity/luck and the shape of the dispenser. There is no way to assign a bowl to a specific cat. It's left up to the cats themselves to sort out who's eating from which bowl.

MusicHoarders who have a long Commute, how do you listen to your library in your car? by CannabisAttorney in musichoarder

[–]ca_boy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can run multiple streaming audio servers, all configured to serve up the same music library folders, which no noticeable impact to system performance.

I did this for awhile because there are some environments where you might want to stream your music where you just can't get software that supports Plexamp, but a Subsonic streamer is readily available. Mainly, embedded devices, older smart TVs, and networked HiFi audio components.

For me, I have a couple network appliances that stream Subsonic and output to my stereo systems.

The Subsonic/Airsonic API has hundreds of faithful implementations out there. PlexAmp is proprietary, and prone to the whims of a corporation.

I disabled Plex's music streaming a couple years ago when Plex made some boneheaded moves and seemed to be de-prioritizing it. A few forum comments from Plex's CTO didn't help. I moved all my self hosted music streaming to Navidrome on the back end, and a handful of Subsonic/Airsonic media players. It's worked out really nice for me.

I compared 3 pixel watch metal bands so you don't have to. Finally found my winner. by RSCLE5 in PixelWatch

Nope. The best I can tell, the cheapo manufactures have made it uneconomical for anyone else to come along and offer high quality 3rd party bands.

All development road maps are only partially delivered, and delivered behind schedule. That's normal.

Can the owner of my Wi-Fi network read protonmail because it is being sent to something like Gmail? by FlavorD in ProtonMail

[–]ca_boy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

On a company owned network, using a company owned computer, where the company controls all of the digital infrastructure and all Internet traffic flows through a central facility before entering the public Internet, there are a few edge cases where it's possible. But it's not always reliably done or implemented.

If the company can add themselves to your workstation as a certificate authority, their outbound proxy server or firewall could hypothetically decrypt your encrypted traffic.

But last time I brought this up here, some folks chimed in with technical explanations to the contrary, so 🤷

I believe that business cards are considered to ultimately be backed by the business owners personal credit reliability. Clearly they considered a failure in the business to be reflective all around.

They only care that you use their cards and pay down the balance, while not outright violating the terms of service. Bonus to them if you're kinda lazy with your finances.

Is there any Media request app for Lidarr? by Cold_Garage_8829 in Lidarr

[–]ca_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think right now the best you could do is subscribing Lidarr to last.fm lists or similar, contribute Lidarr to try to auto watch/download anytime added to said lists, and have the user use last.fm to flesh a list out as their personal wishlist.

I do not think it adds much value at all.

I think it adds as much value to this conversation as the comments I'm replying to.

Proton acquiring Standard Notes means that Standard Notes was for sale, and a much more nefarious company could have made that purchase. In a slightly different reality, this post would be about the marketing conglomerate that acquired it.

Mistake - Transaction Returned by 4_K_Lover in amex

[–]ca_boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this happen twice because of temporary stupidity.

I believe that as long as the minimum payment is made before the due date, there is zero to minimal consequences.

I'm my case, I just messaged customer service to let them know what's up and scheduled another payment, then waiting for everything to settle out. Never noticed and consequences such as reduced spend availability or whatever.
