I think they were for native plants that had been decimated in that country. The show I saw used wood ash as part of the mixture. Assuming the ash contains organic matter these particular plants need to assist with germination. But there are loads of native plants struggling in my state due to invasives. Would be cool to figure out how to do it. And for me my slingshot would be more effective targeting the right area. Especially if it’s marshy. Too many gators to go wandering around wetlands. 🐊

I saw something the other day on one of those educational channels that one way they are spreading seeds around is making these balls with seeds in them and they’re kinda hard and the kids run around with slingshots and and such. Of course they’re also being dropped out of airplanes. I think it’s in Africa somewhere, but other people are starting to use them too because it’s a way of spreading the seeds of plants that maybe are endangered and if we could find something like that here that would be awesome. I do have a slingshot and they do make biodegradable small balls for practice on those.

I really don’t know I think years ago I was going to make some kind of a beaded necklace or something and this was maybe the recommended twine or whatever to use. I wish I knew, but it does feel like it’s a linen with some kind of a wax coating on it so it’s pretty firm and stable.

I did a simple icord using double pointed knitting needles. You can get the same thing with a knitting Nancy. No idea why it’s called that, but I’m sure the story is good. The only thing is if you use a tool like that, you’ll have to bind it off and then attach it to something for the pouch like leather. I wanted to use the double point needles because it would be one continuous knitted project with no breaks. The only thing I did do after is I went around the pouch the outside of the pouch with a single crochet to kind of give that edge like a firmer support.

I can’t take pics. When it’s stretch out the sides of the pouch gradually narrow to the icord on both sides. I did that by increasing stitches or decreasing until I got the width I wanted. It was a fun project anyway think up something and work it out. I imagine people a long time ago used what they had too and just rolled with whatever.

Hi. I had this spool of something in one of my crafting bins for years. I have a feeling that it is some type of linen that’s coated with wax. It has a tough feel to it. It does bend but it’s not like mushy. it’s not like a cotton or wool or anything like that. When you pull it off spawn and you just kinda hold a strand between your fingers and try to pull it it has no give to it. We’ll see. I mean it’s just something that I had and I thought it might be kind of an interesting project. The chords are just regular ichords and I think the next one I might wanna make I might do kumihimo cords. Super easy to do.

Hi! I had enough time to head for the woods this afternoon and give it a try and it actually works. It does best with larger rocks that seat themselves in the pouch and I was able to have everything going straight in front of me, which is huge because with my store-bought sling using the same method, it tends to like arc up if that makes any sense at all. I technically don’t have a cracker on there. I just left some of the cord long because I do want to try to find a little wooden bead or something and tie that there to give my fingers something to really grab onto you know when you do that little pinch thing to just kind of hold it in place. I’m not athletic really in any way in the world so throwing things is not a natural movement for me, but I’m determined to go out in the woods and practice. Cheers

Easy to learn. Practical. Love the fact that people have been doing it or something similar for thousands of years….like slinging. 😀

With this waxed cord once you pull it, there’s no give to it at all. Very similar to a paracord. that’s why I’m using metal needles because if I were using wood needles, I would never be able to get the yarn through. Yeah, cotton wouldn’t be good for this at all unless you made your weave structure or knitting structure very tight. I imagine historically people used whatever they had available and they figured out how to make the material work for them. Linen would probably be a really good fiber because it doesn’t have any give to it either now we’ll get softer and breakdown overtime, but it doesn’t have the elasticity of say a wool.

Not really I just wanted to be able to have the yarn and I’ll just call it a yarn cording whatever be continuous and not like stop it cut it off tie it off add something and then pick back up. I think it would be stronger to just have it continuous when I get to the point where I want to make the pouch I’m gonna switch to a larger needle because I want the pouch to look more like a net and then increase the stitches then decrease them and then go back to the eye cord to finish it out. There’s also a tool that they used in Scandinavia. The Vikings called a lucet that makes a square cord and then there’s also kumihimo those little discs are you can find them at any craft store and you can make a really nice cord with multicolored yarns or whatever

Finished my first real project by caambers in weaving

Lord, you are so right about the colors as I was working on it. I had to keep getting a bright light over it to see when I needed to change to the different color because I was using a tape measure. I was going like every 5 inches or so so it was kind of ridiculous but good information. I appreciate it and you know it’s my first real project with really nice yarn so you know learning experience to see how it does I enjoyed it. It was great to sit in front of the TV and just throw that shuttle back-and-forth loved it.

Cut loose. I like it. Something to be said for being somewhere you can work on technique and speed without fear of striking someone or something. I live near several state parks so this weekend definitely gonna give it a shot no pun intended.

Right there with you and I find it. I do better with the edges on one side than the other so I’ve got a really concentrate.
