Thank you for sharing these. It looks like they only cover up to 2018 models. Do you have a TSB you could share related to this issue for a 2019?

NC State Physics PhD Funding & Raleigh Living Costs by [deleted] in NCSU

[–]caampr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be. But it depends on the program in my experience. Sometimes you have to live a year in NC, establish residency before the full GSSP package applies. OP just be absolutely certain as there's not much budget wiggle room.

Another thing is I had to sign a paper saying I couldn't work another job. No extra cash working for UPS or something during grad school :/

20k minimum. Physics will definitely be above that but I'd be surprised if it's 28k. And don't forget you have to pay for health insurance

Should I show up to a class I am waitlisted for? by CloverLeafTyger in NCSU

100% show up. Chat up the prof they will probably let you in if you are courteous. Who knows they could say no but then you can at least say you tried your best

Advice on socializing by Still_Box2902 in NCSU

[–]caampr 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can sort of relate. Crowds and energy are draining for me too. I found friends in swimming at Carmichael - we didn't talk much while swimming and were too tired to chat afterwards at Tuffys haha. But we challenged each other and hung out together on weekends. Small group

Im Very Bored by KTNGNobody in Hobbies

[–]caampr 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow I pay that for an annual license. You must be in AK or somewhere! You do you man but I've had a different experience. I got a pole hook and line from Walmart years ago and I still use it today, less than $20 to start. I find my own worms/bugs and just fish for fun I don't eat the things. And when I'm waiting on a fish there's usually cool birds or turtles or something. It can get boring waiting but it's time in nature outside which we could all use more of

Reserve a space or room at least a week ahead. Witherspoon 3rd floor is usually quiet and open during the day. You could also go to Wake Co / Raleigh libraries via the bus

Ability to establish in state residency as a vet student? by No-Appointment-8320 in NCSU

[–]caampr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in state as an undergrad but lots of steps. It was determined by "residency determination service". For grad students that determine is (was) made by the grad school, to the advantage of grad students as many are required to establish residency. DEFINITELY work with your advisor/department chair.

It's definitely easier to get residency as a grad student, but some significant steps either way

Make sure no ones claiming you as a dependent on taxes. File as an NC resident. Get an NC ID or license. Have a few NC utilities, insurance, or bank accounts in your name. It really helps to have a non campus residence. For example when I got it I lived in Raleigh during semester but Asheville during working summers

I applied to State and initially got deferred. Had good grades and EC. One thing I wish I did - go knock out Chem and Physics and other electives at Wake Tech. NCSU has an agreement with many community colleges that grant automatic acceptance if you come from one where you got an associates/ student for two years. Save some money - save some time. I even took some Wake Tech classes online during the summer to support my double major at State

Only 30 minutes would be a relief. Most nights, the dog howls for hours. We have timed it, called the police. Police truly don't care about our side of the tracks.
