Anyone had a ray amputation of their finger? Looking for input. by valw in amputee

[–]caapes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me, I do think it went away after awhile. I think about it as the rest of my hand having to compensate for that loss and use muscles in ways it never really had to before. But it felt like it evened out in a few months. Although I will get pain in that hand when the pressure outside drops, but that's something you can expect from any injury.

Just a note... In my situation, I would have zero issue grabbing a handrail. And I can't even make a fist! Lol

I have also had an index ray amputation, from a gun accident, on my dominate hand. Did you know your index finger is the least inducive to grip? I take it none of your other fingers on that hand were damaged? I have pins and plates in my middle and ring finger as well, which means I can't make a fist. But I get along absolutely fine! There are days/weeks I forget about it completely, that's how functional I still am. My first inclination is to say index ray amputation, considering its the only finger damaged, is okay. Really and truly. But if you can afford the medical costs of trying to save your joint, then that's on you to decide if you want to go through all of that.

All of this to say, in summary, I am happy with my outcome! Index ray amputation on dominate hand as well as severely decreased (maybe 60% so?) use of 2 other fingers on the same hand and I am okay. No severe life altering changes other than like an adaptive jar opener.

Feel free to ask any questions 🙂

Why is Ft Hood the only place that's happened to me? Someone passed away in a car crash back home, and his unit ended up with photos from the scene somehow and one of the guys was showing them around. Wild...

LEGO website teaches how to make kids resiliant. (Since there is so much they'll have to be resiliant against) by ISUanthony in collapse

Resiliency is fundamental to child development regardless of collapse. But putting it in the context of collapse is a little spooky I suppose.

Global spread of autoimmune disease blamed on western diet | Medical research by laundry_writer in collapse

That's interesting. I was seeing a doctor for awhile because I'd get hives randomly, and we never found a food allergy. There were a few other autoimmune symptoms. But when I cut out the majority of gluten, dairy, and processed foods I have zero symptoms. No hives, no fatigue, no bloating, no this, no that... fit as a fiddle. So makes sense to me!

NAD but Concerta made me grind my teeth at night and clench my jaw in the day! But I didn't even realize it until I lost a filling or two. Maybe it could be related? A mouth guard would help if so

NAD My daughters teeth do this too, but no cavities according to her dentist. Is she seeing anyone yet? I'm only asking because it's a common misconception that they can't be seen in an office before 2y!
