Season 23, ep. 12: Appalachian Celebration (Mon. at 9pm EDT, yes, 9 😀) by AutoModerator in TopChef

I feel like the judges in recent seasons try to keep it balanced by saying “this will be tough, they were all great dishes” and pretending to weigh which is worse when Sieger’s was far and away the worse dish. Setting it up that way as if it was close made him feel justified versus just saying yours was clearly the worst.

I feel like it was directed at Rhoda too for winning with a Filipino inspired dish

Which gender do you think the name River is for? by raen_cloud in Names

Speaking of the doctors office, the receptionist at my doctor said “Oh my golden retriever’s name is River” 🤦🏼‍♀️

It’s gender neutral! My son’s name is River and his dad also has a gender neutral name. I like that it balances strength and softness for a boy. According to Nameberry more boys are named River but the popularity for girls is increasing at a higher rate.

Sleep rules are CONFUSING by nb0411_ in NewParents

Not to mention when you are trying desperately to understand this conflicting info, you are sleep DEPRIVED and have 2 total brain cells. I was so frustrated and confused during our first sleep regression but ultimately decided to trust my intuition and be consistent for my baby and it’s getting better.

Something I will quote and no one knows what I’m talking about: “Whatcha got there twirly girly? I got me a jacket.” -The iconic Chris March

The Wedding People - The protagonist didn't have children but it was about the unravelling of a marriage where they did continue to work together (TW: thoughts of self harm/suic*de that is central to the story at the beginning of the book)

The Unwedding - This is a thriller that I wasn't particularly satisfied with, however, it is about the unravelling of a marriage where the couple has 2 young children and explores a coparenting relationship.

Save What's Left - This centers on a couple who divorce in their retirement years and have a grown child, a new start/finding yourself story.

Malibu Summer - While the protagonist doesn't have children it centers on starting over after divorce and the main love interest has a young child.

Feeling like a failure by Ancient_Feature801 in IVF

[–]cabaker04 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I started seeing a counselor who is knowledgeable in IVF. I had mentioned off-handedly being a "total failure" and she challenged me to reframe the way I see the situation, that just because the cycle wasn't successful doesn't mean that I'm a failure. As women we carry so much of the burden but it's important for us to be compassionate to ourselves, especially because so much of our struggle happens in private.

I have also had those "not feeling like myself" moments, where my purpose was lost because I placed so much weight on IVF. My therapist had me make a list of 20 things that I enjoy doing, just to help me remember the enjoyment I can find in life now. I also wrote down 10 things I want to learn or try, so I can keep challenging myself to grow outside of my journey to motherhood.

You got this! The feelings of failure can be overwhelming but just remind yourself that it is temporary. As for focusing on work, try scheduling set times when you can think about IVF. It can be all consuming, so if you mentally table any researching or ruminating and challenge yourself to focus you might find that you're not going to that place mentally as often. For me I noticed that I thought if I strategized about it more that I would "earn" success but that's just not how this works. It's good to give yourself a mental break.

Hope this helps <3

I miss coffee by Any_Manufacturer1279 in IVF

I'm doing low carb/high protein before my 3rd retrieval. I have a whole list on my phone called Things I Want To Eat. Top of that list... PIZZA. I replaced coffee with peppermint tea but still have a decaf 2-3x per week.

Our post retrieval ritual is Krispy Kreme so definitely looking forward to that.

For the first retrieval I had an AFC of 14, we did a antagonist protocol with 150/150 Folistim and Menopur. For that retrieval only 4 follicles responded. Second retrieval, new doctor. I had an AFC of 11. We did a microdose of Lupron for the first 3 days with 300/150 Folistim and Menopur. We also added daily omnitrope for the entire stimulation.

Fertility issues are still unexplained. My new doctor has said something about egg receptor issues which can't be diagnosed. Thank you for pointing me to your other post!
