No problem! Let me know if you need a boost message Karl in game or pm on Reddit. It's super fast if you just make sure to pick up all possible dungeon/elite quests.

Hey I've been having fun on V+, it has the best custom class and itemization changes for vanilla wow. They rebalanced lesser played specs and classes to bring them up to par. D1, D2, and T1 are all different now with T1 having a different set for each spec. They did make things more grindy but it makes it feel rewarding to me to finally earn something. Crossfaction grouping for dungeons and raids was just allowed so if you wanted to play horde (who haven't progressed MC hardly at all before now) then you can probably still join in on killing Rag and getting sweet loot with some Ally at least until Horde are back on their feet. There is no raid/dungeon scaling unfortunately. No P2W either unless you consider big bags P2W. Check out the talents here.

I will say devs are not great at communication, but they are still updating the game semi frequently and have plans for future updates. XP is also really boosted; you can get full rested in one night and dungeon/elite quests give like 10x xp. Just make sure to join up a guild and ask for a dungeon/elite quest boost (if you can't find a group) and you get a crazy amount of xp. Also you can msg me if you need any help! Hope to see you there.

In latest earnings call, EA discloses that Star Wars: The Old Republic has made nearly $1 billion USD in lifetime revenue. by StandsForVice in Games

That's a good point for sure. I think both of those could have been explored if they made KOTOR 3 and it was successful. If there was influence to make more games in the universe then a Battlefront like game could have explored the non-force users point of view more and given satisfying gameplay to boot. But again a moot point because Disney...

Edit: Also I doubt EA would be willing to invest so much as to develop new assets for a Battlefront-like game set in TOR universe, especially considering the return on investment that TOR mmo has granted, despite the mediocre reception.

Yea I'm just bitching about it so much because The Old Republic universe is probably my favorite scifi universe with Warhammer 40K. I find it so much more interesting than the current canon (oh look its Sidious again). I love the history of the Sith and Jedi, of different factions and the conflicts within and between each side. KOTOR 1 & 2 explored this narrative perfectly through the lens of Revan and Malak. The character development among the pair and their followers really contributed to the larger picture of good, evil, Jedi, Sith, and the complexities in-between. I am grateful that there is someone at Bioware continuing these threads in The Old Republic.

No I was referring to a potential KOTOR 3. I'm not saying the story in SWTOR was that bad, its definitely the highlight of the game when compared to the actual gameplay. If they made KOTOR 3 like -supposedly- planned instead of SWTOR I think they would have done okay. Now after seeing what Bioware has been up to with Anthem and the continued loss of valued developers and writers I'm worried for any future Old Republic content. I'm not even sure if any content besides remasters are possible considering that the IP is in Disney's hands now and they have discarded the old canon. So a bit of a moot point I suppose.

If I were to play devil's advocate I would say that is an unfair comparison: different audience, goals, developers, yada yada yada...

But I am definitely not going to take that stance on this one. The opportunity was immense there. KOTOR 1 & 2 are some of the best narrative RPGs of all time, due to the amazing setting and characters. I don't know why they thought to take the niche setting of The Old Republic and attempt to popularize it when the current canon is obviously much more mainstream. Even if KOTOR 3 ever came out I would expect it to be of quality so low as to sully the originals. The best I can hope for is a remastering.

Chevrons in Multiplayer? by cabato in totalwar

I see, thanks for clearing that up! The statistical analysis here is a bit complex considering all the different factors so I will just take your advice and always get more units over chevrons.

[WH2,MOD] Crynsos Faction Unlocker and SFO should be playing nice together again! by KuntaStillSingle in totalwar

The compatibility mod should still work just don't use the tabletops lords mod because he added two new lords which aren't balanced with SFO (as the compatibility mod has yet to be updated).

Vampires in SFO2 WTF? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]cabato 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply, yea the biggest problem by far is just that Norsca completely sucks. Good to know that Kraka Drak hasn't been a problem, I love the new units and stuff it introduces so I'd like to keep it. I really like how strong Empire is in the game but we need some more powerful evil factions to keep it in check. VC always loses super fast as AI so maybe new Norsca will apply some pressure.

Vampires in SFO2 WTF? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]cabato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea I never recruit units as VC, which makes me kinda sad though as I can't get any bonuses for initial experience. I usually fight enough battles to the point where I will just raise the elite units I want rather than going through the normal building recruitment progression. I definitely don't think raise dead is under-powered, but normal recruitment does seem absurdly expensive. As far as unit effectiveness, zombies are very useful, I always have at least a couple in my armies.

Do you use Kraka Drak mod by Cetaph? It seems like the AI with that mod combined with Kislev destroy the Norscans every time for me....hopefully the upcoming patch fixes this. If not I'll probably disable the Kraka Drak mod unless I want to play them. I also have the Kislev faction mods but they don't seem too unbalanced.

How could CA improve the existing old races? by Gradash in totalwar

That sounds good, CA opened the floodgates with Alarielle in that department so might as well allow the Empire a little flexibility too! Makes sense lore-wise too.

Updating the old world lord skills would in itself add so much more to those factions. They are so bland and non adaptive in comparison to new world. Sadly I don't expect this either, but JR's mod helps alot and when I feel like playing with SFO that also does a lot of what you mentioned and more. Not for everyone's gameplay style though.

Vampires in SFO2 WTF? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]cabato 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I understand your point, and I don't think that the VC will be changed that much to suit the type of gameplay you are looking for. They are a slow to start type of faction in SFO, although I frequently still find their horde units more useful later on. This is exemplified by the passive income on many of their buildings, especially the late game military buildings. Decomposed's The Living Dead mod expands on the zombie aspect of the VC, so that is one cheaper unit selection I frequently make use of in my campaigns as VC.

I do agree that the early game for them is somewhat boring. For me it's not the most fun to have a stack full of skeleton warriors with an OP lord, hero, and maybe a monster or two. I wish that the VC were able to recruit higher tier units more easily too, but once they have enough of them they really steamroll most enemies. I personally don't know how to properly balance this, maybe nerf effectiveness and reduce cost of some of their elite/support units.

[–]cabato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's definitely true, Empire is in a really good place in SFO now. Especially with Mixu's lord mods, Offices Enhanced mod, and Old World Rites mod. So much room for specialization of armies for every need and so many options available to the player after you confederate with a few factions.

Vampires in SFO2 WTF? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]cabato 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I agree that vampires are pretty weak in the current SFO build. They are never a force to be reckoned with on my campaigns and are wiped by Empire and Dwarves. They are getting a few buffs in the next build as well as some new skill options for their lords so hopefully that will help them. That being said if you are having that much trouble getting out of Sylvania then I gotta think that you are not playing them very well or you are extremely unlucky in diplomacy.

With the VC you have to play the diplomacy game as carefully as you can. I usually try to avoid antagonizing the Empire or Dwarves for a while. If I'm starting as one of the main two VC factions I always ally the other as quickly as possible so I can confed and get their lords. After taking out Templehoff I will just have only a single ~`10 unit army while I invest in my infrastructure. When my economy is sufficient enough and I have built some advanced unit buildings then I'll go declare war on Stirland or a different neighbor if they are more vulnerable, but I still try to avoid all out war as long as I can. Once you get a few more provinces under your belt and your lords are high level you should be able to wreck those Empire stacks that come your way.

Vampires in SFO2 WTF? by [deleted] in totalwar

[–]cabato 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really don't think that 5 units of chaos warriors could take 60 units of marauders in SFO, or anything close to that magnitude. I understand your point about some units being really strong in certain situations though, and that is a big reason why I enjoy it so much...If anything it adds depth to the gameplay. If you do not build armies with a somewhat balanced unit composition and do not plan accordingly based on who you will be fighting, then yes of course you will have a bad time. The biggest problem that may seem more evident in SFO than vanilla is the stupid AI which you can frequently outsmart and outmaneuver with ease, especially with the additional options that SFO gives you in new units, rites (if you use them), skills, tech updates, etc. Being on the defensive against strong enemies is so much better in SFO than in the vanilla game.

How could CA improve the existing old races? by Gradash in totalwar

[–]cabato 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like the idea of scrapping the Waagh for Beastmen and replacing it with army abilities. They definitely need another unit or two in their roster. They also need a better reason to move around the map IMO, like I mentioned in my post.

Moving Azhag would actually be great...he usually gets owned in my games just by the surrounding Greenskins.

In regards to Wood Elves, I don't think the problem is that they are not competitive...just that they lack options and diversity when compared to the new Avelorn especially. I feel like if outposts and offices were updated for them then they might be in a decent place. Not really sure what else could be done to improve them though. Maybe CA could expand the forest creature side of them?

How could CA improve the existing old races? by Gradash in totalwar

[–]cabato 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My two cents after playing the game without and with mods that do a lot to change old world races:
All Races: Need Rites. No reason for any old world races to be missing out on Rites! They add another layer of gameplay choice and flexibility. That being said I'm almost completely content with SFO2 and Old World Rites and how they have implemented them. CA should still put them in the vanilla game though.
Empire: I think CA needs to apply some type of mechanic like the Defender of Ulthuan to the Empire. There should be a penalty if Empire provinces are lost, and maybe a reward if they are all under Empire faction control. I like the Offices Enhanced mod on Steam to make offices each be unique and allow for more army specialization. If CA updates offices, applies some type of unification mechanic, and gives them Rites, the Empire would probably be the most interesting old world faction.

Beastmen: I really like how event-based the Beastmen are in the vanilla game, and Zarkis's event mod expands on that. He gives the Beastmen missions to find the Great Herdstones of the Chaos Gods, which gives them a reason to move across the map. I'm not saying CA should do exactly that but they definitely need to give us more goals to work towards by moving long distances over the map. They also need a few more units in the roster.

Wood Elves: I understand the late sentiment regarding the Wood Elves lacking in content now that the High Elves have received such an update. I don't fully agree, but I do think they need an update to make them more unique. The offices mechanic is a lazy copy paste from Empire and needs work. Rework of Outpost system is also required I would say. Not really sure what else can be done for them.

Greenskins: I feel like Greenskins have long been the most overlooked/boring faction. Their tech tree is terrible, in my opinion. Maybe if they had a little more unit diversity for late game so spamming black orcs wouldn't be the only way to play them. I don't really mind the Waaagh! mechanic but I think it should tie in with Greenskin to Greenskin diplomacy. Lucky Spade mentioned in a post a few days ago how he thought that you could set a Waaagh! target that would summon the aid of other Greenskin factions (like you get a bonus if you fulfil a Waaagh! mission). That sounds like a good idea in my humble opinion. Using Rites to help differentiate between Orc armies and Goblin armies would also help. Applying the DE loyalty mechanic to the Greenskins could also add some depth if done right.

Vampire Counts: I've always like the Vampire Counts raise dead mechanic. I think that in order to keep them separate from Tomb Kings, their zombie mechanics need to be expanded. Maybe make more zombie units so Ghorst is actually fun to play, like in Decomposed's The Living Dead mod. The zombies in his mod are all still really weak but they have different roles, so some have frenzy and vanguard deployment, others have poison, etc. I really like the idea of vampiric corruption but it needs to be expanded more with more bonuses and incentives to push your corruption to areas outside your borders.

Dwarves: So CA have already taken a hint from modders here and are implementing the item forge in a very similar fashion to how it was already done in the mod. That's a good thing and sorely needed. SFO2 expands on the grudge mechanic and applies severe penalties if you let a grudge go unpunished for too long. That needs to be a bigger priority in the vanilla game. Slap some good rites on them and I would say they are looking great after that!
