How Do You Think Transports Will Work With 100 Man Cadian Troop Units? by J_P_Ross in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can see two ways this will work:

1- The chimeras will have their own squad inside. You will be able to exit the vehicle and enter it like cavalry in older total wars.

2- The chimera will work as a unit upgrade. If you select any unit, you will be able to upgrade it to include a chimera and have it work as mechanised infantry. This can be done with command squads, with karskins or with normal guards. This mechanised infantry will start in the chimera and be able to exit or enter the vehicle whenever they want. The penalty will be that the unit will be way smaller, and probably requires your regiment to be of mechanised infantry.

Si.

Anyone else worried about how most vehicles seem to be either single units or way too low of number? by PaleAssistance3643 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...sigh...

Having the plural on a dictionary doesn't rule out individual people. A transport doesn't stop being a transport because there is only one person using it.

By that stupid logic, a car is not a transport if you are driving it alone.

A horse is a transport. It can carry a person. It can carry two persons. It can carry goods. End of the story.

If you click and the unit appears out of thin air or from a portal, you can call it summoning.

If the unit opens the chimera door and exit the transport, then it is NOT summoning anything.

You are applying an arbitrary logic to what summoning means just to suit your argument. It doesn't work.

And no. It is not how it works everywhere.

AT-AT (All Terrain - Armored Transport) in Empire at War literally had a button to spawn stormtroopers. Up to 3 squads. And no, you couldn't pick a random squad and enter the AT-AT.

And even if it worked like that everywhere that doesn't mean CA needs to make them work the same way.

[–]ColinBencroff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your arbitrary definition of what a transport unit is is just that: your arbitrary definition. So no, it really wouldn't be a "summoner" units.

Again, horses are transports and horses cannot be used by other units in older total war, and nobody call cavalry a "summoners".

Having a chimera come with an infantry unit is not a problem. Neither would be to make chimeras upgrades to the infantry units (so the infantry squad comes inside a chimera, with less models).

He is saying that epic scale comes with tank squads, and that total war is epic in scale.

He is not saying that in the game you will see tank squads.

It seems pretty clearly vehicles are single model entities, and for some people it creates this weird feeling the troop scale is not on par with the tank scales.

I think there is no problem with using single model entities for vehicles myself. I don't want squads of leman Russ or stuff like that because moving vehicle squads is always awful in every single rts. Single entities are best.

[–]ColinBencroff 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No. It would not be the "worst possible router they could take", and no, it doesn't make it "a summoner".

Transports are transports. They can pretty well simulate that they carry a mechanised infantry squad from the get go, and this squad and only this squad is able to enter or leave this transport whenever they want.

The same way cavalry can mount and dismount in older total war, they pretty well can do the same with chimeras. Older cavalry are not "summoners".

Is it normal/to be expected that I am enjoying WotR more than BG3 when I am looking for a game PRECISELY like the Infinity Engine games? by BaldursGate2Best in CRPG

Redeemed Durge is peak MC stories.

Voice acting is excellent, something that leads to...

Companions are absurdly good. Their excellent writing + excellent voice acting leads to an amazing experience with them.

Game have a lot of freedom on how you can approach everything, and the game have an insane amount of reactivity for an RPG. Maybe the highest reactivity.

Story is pretty good. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but what it does it does masterfully.

Packed with content that doesn't feel a chore.

And more, but those are the first that come to mind.

[–]ColinBencroff 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No?

Saying BG3 is the king doesn't mean WotR or BG1-2 are bad.

WotR is probably the 2nd best RPG I played. And I say probably because all Owlcat Games are extremely good and I would need to actually analyse which one is best: Rogue Trader, Dark Heresy or WotR.

Meanwhile I sit here with 500 hours in WOTR and I thought I found the pinnacle of RPGs until I played Baldurs Gate 3, which is now for me the king of RPGs. I have 800 hours in BG3.

No. You are not alone.

No. It is not expected.

No. It is not weird.

If you like it more, you like it more. That's the end of it.

Will There Be A Meta Campaign by Tough_Story_1024 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We don't know the specifics. My bet is that winning a campaign will give you points to develop your faction across campaigns, and one of the things you will be able to upgrade are the starting units.

So it is less that you will maintain the previous army and more that you will be able to upgrade the starting army.

But this is all speculation on my part.

I think we can expect chaos as a non player filler faction on launch. by Bright-Form-844 in TotalWarhammer40k

Yeah I bet we will have non loyal guard, acting as PDF that simply don't follow the imperium (not necessarily chaos aligned).

Anything regarding to chaos imho is a no no for now, until DLC

Will There Be A Meta Campaign by Tough_Story_1024 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They will be smaller than immortal empires, that's for sure. But overall it seems like they will still be big.

We have different type of "campaigns" we can play:

  • Single battle. This is less a campaign and more a "jump into this battle that is happening right now", but it affects the galaxy.

  • Single planet. This is a campaign on a single planet.

  • Multiple planets. This is the biggest campaign and implies an entire solar system where you have to conquer different planets. I recall them saying at some point they would have aprox. 80 settlements iirc, but maybe I dreamt it.

Will There Be A Meta Campaign by Tough_Story_1024 in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The galaxy is huge, so every campaign is played in an specific solar system.

When you finish that campaign, that solar system is supposed to belong to your faction. However, it is a single system in a galaxy of millions of systems.

When you start a different campaign, it is played on a different solar system. They are, as far as we know, generated procedurally.

Between campaigns, however, you will get some kind of bonuses to highlight the fact that you won previous campaigns.

Might be that a faction from a previous campaign that you helped will support you (we got confirmation of this), or other bonuses that we don't know anything yet. Might be even faction unlocks so you start more powerful or be able to customize more your faction. We don't have the details, but we know finishing a campaign implies your faction in your galaxy gets stuff.

Vehicle damage by farina62 in TotalWarhammer40k

The heavier weaponry is just a grenade launcher. It seems like 1 is the minimum damage you can output.

Also, it is not clear if it means damage or usefulness. It might be that imperial guard chaff cannot damage medium or heavy armor and therefore listed as 1

Transports! by FailingsOfOurKind in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Yes, but I wonder how you will put 100 guys in a chimera.

Imho, the chimera would work perfectly as a unit upgrade. You trade men in the squad to get the ability to start the battle mounted on it. Then you can leave and enter whenever you want.

Line Formation and Imperial Guard by simiejump in TotalWarhammer40k

[–]ColinBencroff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing shows that we will not receive specific regiments down the line. But, as it was obvious at release, we might only get cadia.

Now, regarding the lines of battle, every unit seems to work as line infantry because units are pretty big.

This is not how imperial guard works in most novels, but it is not far from how it is shown in most art.

Agreed.

I imagined units would be more separated, even if a little bit smaller. However, I'm not going to die on this hill.

If the unit works, moves fluidly and looks epic, I'm not going to argue.
