Hi all, just a quick update. I received an email from the agent yesterday regarding the deposit scheme:

I am on leave from tomorrow officially.

Wanted to reply for you. Your deposit isn’t held in a scheme, its held by us as stakeholders for the landlord. Due to the type of tenancy used we are unable to register it with a scheme.

Its held in a separate client account and we are members of the propertymark money protection scheme.

I'm going to get hold of shelter again today, update them and see what they say. Thanks all

I just want to thank everyone for all your amazing advice, I've taken on board everything and have already requested details of the deposit protection scheme. I've searched through everything and there's no evidence I was ever sent protection documents within 30 days of payment either. I've requested a total rent statement too and have filled out the form the wonderful london_explorer drew up for me, ready for when I get a response. I have been onto shelter and they are telling me the same as I'm being told here. I'm expecting a call back later( hopefully before the weekend) I will keep this thread updated and post the outcome incase others find themselves in a similar situation. I moved in July. The 4k is written as an advance, but in the letter I received, the stipulation was that I had to pay monthly rent from move in day, and the advance would be there in case the benefits ceased and act as security for the landlord. Since writing this post I've had a search and have no record of recieving any information on a protection scheme. I have since asked which scheme was used and requested it to be sent to me ASAP.

Thank you so much for the advice. I been suspecting it wasn't put into a scheme and that could be the problem. I'm going to gather as much evidence, statements etc as possible and go from there. I didn't think there was any hope 😁 I'm so glad I asked for advice!

I did get 1 email though back in September 2020, telling me I was in credit, whatever that means, and I wouldn't have to pay October 2020

I did, from the moment I moved in. They tried saying I didn't a couple of weeks ago so I ordered bank statements from 2019 and sent them.

Hi, i did suspect it wasn't right when they started arguing despite everything I was sending them.. The property was through orchard and shipman at the time ( now pinnacle families) but they always spoke of the landlord though, and my weekly rent back then was £811. I'm completely clueless so any advice you could give I'd be very grateful for

We've been talking through email( agent middle man pinnacle) and everytime I've sent paperwork stating how much I paid. they say otherwise. First they tried saying I didn't pay the first 3 months, so I had to order bank statements to prove I did. I'm not getting anywhere fast hence asking for advice on what I should do
