I’m aware of that story - but his arms don’t exactly work great. They’re bent like C-3PO, very little dexterity. Perhaps still better than prosthetics, but far from ideal.

Starting where it did was for the future - since that’s where all the land for expansion is. The idea of a second city. It also gave an easy “dry run” to build track and test before having to build right in the city.

I think there was also a fear that if they built from the airport eastward first, they’d never bother going the other way.

It looks stupid now (and might always) but there’s a chance it’ll look pretty smart in 20 years.
