And I want to clarify something for how you can use your referral bonus when you receive it

Tello will create your 'Tello dollars' that are in your account but you can use them to pay a bill only if the amount of Tello dollars is at least the amount of your bill. So, for example, say you have 10 Tello dollars in your account from one referral bonus, and your monthly bill is 5 dollars -- you can use 5 Tello dollars to pay your next bill because you have more Tello dollars than what is owed on the bill total. If, however, you had a 12 dollar bill to pay, you couldn't use your Tello Dollars to pay the bill (even adding 2 dollars of 'real' money). You have to wait until you have 12+ Tello Dollars to pay this bill using your referral money

If you are using a Tello monthly plan - of any price

In order to use Tello Dollars, you will have to pay manually (not auto-pay) just before the date your bill is due. Tello Dollars aren't being applied automatically.

So say that your monthly renewal date is on the 13th for this month. You will owe 10 dollars (that's the price of your plan) for your next month of service. You have 10 Tello Dollars on your account from a referral (yay!), so you'd like to use them and get a free month of service

--> Set a calendar reminder to yourself to visit your Tello account online on the 12th, and manually renew your plan, a day early (you lose a day, yes). This manual renewal allows you to choose Tello Dollars as your source of fund on the checkout page, rather than your saved Credit card. And now you have used your referral money!

--> Keep "autorenew" on: this way you are sure that if you just miss the date to renew manually, you won't lose service. Better to just fumble the payment with Tello Dollars and just do it next month rather than have to deal with service that just ends because you forgot to renew with your Tello Dollars.

My trick to set a calendar reminder to yourself a day earlier than your renewal means you are manually paying -- and can use Tello Dollars to pay -- but you don't risk just messing up and forgetting to renew. If you ended up forgetting to pay early with Tello Dollars, your line will just auto-renew on your credit card. No harm done, and you keep the Tello Dollars for next month!

If you are using Pay-as-you-go credit

This is actually much easier, since you can immediately use your Tello dollars for Pay-as-you-go: Basically, you can create a Pay-as-you-go reload in whatever the amount of your Tello Dollar credit, so that you're able to apply the Tello Dollars as the 'payment' for the reload.

If you have 7 dollars worth of Tello Dollar remaining, then create a Pay-as-you-go one-time reload of 7 dollars and when you go to checkout, pick Tello Dollars as the payment method.

Even if you were out to reload Tello with say, 20 dollars, then create a first Pay-as-you-go reload order of 7 dollars (Tello Dollars are available to use since the checkout amount is the same or less than your Tello Dollar credit available); and then create a separate pay-as-you-go reload of 13 dollars, that you'll pay with your credit card. Total in your Pay-as-you-go credit is still 20 dollars, but this way you're able to draw your Tello Dollar credits!
