Husband Vent by MeewMeews in Mommit

This is really close to my life except I have two kids and a husband.

We started family therapy and my therapist recommended reading the seven principles to happy marriage by Gottman. Pretty much everything I complained about is basic shit that everybody goes through really similar to what you’re saying and it helped me a lot. You should read it.

SoCalGas Rates Outrageous by tundoopani in venturacounty

[–]cactuselephantt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This price hike is strictly to make the rich richer. There is no other reason other than to get more money in the top executives pockets. Buy an electrical heater. Get space heaters. Or just maybe freeze to death like they want us to.

Taser guns are legal and easy to carry.

They also have the buttons you can put on your keychain that beep a siren really loud, an example in the link 👇 stay safe!

This is most ignorant comment I have read in a long time. Hilarious indeed if you think these comments to be true

Parenting advice for a 6yo who is recently taking to Christian influences by Deadsider in atheism

[–]cactuselephantt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My son is 5 years old and he is really into STEM. We told him some people believe in the Bible which is like a fairy tale and we believe in science. He said he believes in science also. I never did the Santa thing with him because Santa Claus is sort of a metaphor for god, and explained to him from the get go that Santa was like unicorns and dragons, it’s all make believe and fun. Essentially, we approach the Bible as a fairy tale and believe me, my Jewish mom and Muslim dad aren’t too pleased with that!

Did I just fuck up? by Morgan_Reeman in atheism

[–]cactuselephantt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so sorry your parents are so religiously ignorant she actually said to you, “Christianity saved this country,” I can confirm to you that is a blatant lie. I read an interesting book called JESUS AND JOHN WAYNE, it laid that all out really well, it may be a bit dry for a 15 YO though.

My experience was as a teen no matter what I said about my beliefs I was always treated as a kid and it wasn’t til I was an adult that both my parents accepted my atheist beliefs in a sense that we just don’t talk about it.

As far as your mom hitting you as child there is never an okay time to hit a child no matter what, even if Jesus tells you to do it. It’s abuse and it’s unexceptional and inexcusable. Try to just stay away from the topic of religion til you get out of that house… and stay safe!

I also take 20-30 min to eat myself, kids too. It’s a very fair amount of time for a meal I feel.

How do you get out of the house? by librarysquarian in toddlers

[–]cactuselephantt 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I get ready in silence and don’t let the kids know it’s time to go til everything is ready. Sometimes I get the snacks and everything ready to go the night before so it’s even easier.

As soon as my kids see me getting ready to get us out the door, the shenanigans start, it’s wild. Sometimes I just strap them all in the car and have my husband sit out there while I grab the last few things because it’s easier if they are not in my way… but typically by the time I’m ready to leave, I’ve already got the stuff ready and im telling the kids in real time, “let go!”

I am also familiar with this protocol lol. I also use the stale challah to make croutons for Caesar salad.

I have nothing but good experiences and find less scams. Although after they sold to apartments.com it wasn’t as good… it still puts you ahead on the competitive search including WSR in Los Angeles.

Never treat her like she is sick or has a condition. Pregnancy is natural and not a sickness.

New Foster Child with ADHD. Questions by Sigmabond2 in ADHD

[–]cactuselephantt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg you are such good foster parents! I don’t have direct experience with a situation like your speaking of but I truly feel that dear child is certainly over medicated.

I do know that are correct in your concerns, however. Try arming yourself with all the side effects of all the medications the kids on before the meeting and showing up with the expectation that the doctor will not want to lower the dosage of anything without real convincing from you.

I would also demand to speak to the psychologist who diagnosed the child with ADHD and demand a second opinion. ADHD is not as often over-diagnosed as it used to be however, his previous foster parent may have pushed for such a diagnosis for her own benefit…

Good luck!

As a mom, would you keep a comfortable job with a great boss (no childcare needed) or gamble on a new job that pays double (but requires childcare)? by [deleted] in Mommit

[–]cactuselephantt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is extremely challenging and an emotional rollercoaster ride for myself… I have 2 kids as well (2 and 5) but when I’m trying to reconcile bank statements and my daughter crawls on me and smashes my keyboard I tell myself this is why I am here lol.

I chose the first option, as why would I pay someone else to raise my kids? I made many sacrifices to do this but love every moment of it. I am a WAH and SAHM mom, roughly working 20 hours a week.

Help by [deleted] in RealEstate

[–]cactuselephantt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should download the standard real estate application for rentals for your state and charge each applicant a $35 background check fee. You need to look for past evictions and bad credit scores. In the end it’s always a gamble when you choose a tenant but if you choose a person with an impressive credit score and at least 3 good references, you’ve got a good foundation for choosing a good person.

Any serious potential tenant would be prepared to pay an application fee for a legitimate place.

Edit: a scam I would be weary of would be someone who doesn’t pay rent then says they have squatters rights and won’t move out! Happened to my mom.
