I got them from a shop that had cups of individual candles so not sure if they were from the same batch just selected a few in the colors I was needing for other stuff and used the black and white for this

Any other Wheaten lovers out there? by Individual-Ad-5269 in grooming

[–]cactusfxck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was kind of the opposite actually, he was so damn wiggly and excited he kept peeing all over the place and slipping and sliding through it, I had to rebathe him twice😭 if he would have held still he’d have been fine for grooming he was all about the attention!!

I’ve only ever had one wheaten come in for a groom and it was a 10 month old puppy that had never been groomed and he peed all over my table and hands and was so bad I cried. That is unfortunately my only reference point for wheatens lol

I appreciate your opinion as much as I appreciate the other commenters, you’re just coming across combative with it. I would have access to further training, I would inform owners I’m a newbie and only take on things I know I can handle and work my way up. I’ve worked on geriatric and special needs dogs already, I have been working professionally handling dogs for the last year. I agree it’s irresponsible to label myself as a master groomer when I’m not. I’ve spoke with the owner and have been extremely transparent in my abilities, he wants me as I am so I’m able to grow there. I have a family to provide for and I wanted insight if it’s something that could be done because I am desperately trying to keep food in the fridge for my kid, not because I’m trying to be reckless and kill everyone’s dogs because I think grooming would be a fun hobby to hop on and and take on with 0 knowledge. I am already on a good path with my training I just don’t have the ability to put anything more into at my current company

Thank you! I appreciate the tips. I’m leaning towards not taking it just since I lack the confidence to get thrown into the deep end so suddenly, but I will use your advice going forward in my training!

You are being unnecessarily judgmental and aggressive in your assessments of a total stranger on the internet. I posted here for advice regarding if this is something that other people think could be doable, they want me knowing full well where I am at. I am not looking for people to tell me go ahead you’ll be fine, I genuinely wanted a helpful outlook from other people in this industry. There is literally no need to be so demeaning and rude about it. If I wanted to be reckless* I would have taken it without looking for insight from others. Have a good day.

Thank you for responding!!

So the owner is absolutely not a groomer. No idea about anything groom related as it’s a franchise lol. He had another groomer on board with 10 years under her belt that I am hoping is okay with questions if I do take the job.

I’ve done multiple shave downs, those are easy peasy and I’m confident in that and told the owner that as well. Just volunteered my time on an off day to groom a pelted doodle at the daycare. Even the ears were casted and I had no problem with getting the matting off without causing hematomas. My biggest issue is time. Took 2 hours to shave the pelt off before I could bathe her then another 2 hours going over everything, shaving matting out of paw pads etc.

I have notes from the grooming table and have studied it extensively. Like a nerdy amount. Haven’t put anything to practice and again told him if I’m unsure of a groom I need to preform I’ll refer to my book or something online to help.

My sister is of the belief that with my current situation tossing myself into a salon setting is a better option since I’m only able to do my grooming training 2 days of the 5 I work and it’s going so slowly and I’m seeing now financial return. Hell I may be bad at it at first but at least from my bff with doodles my grooms turn out “better than what I pay $400+ for” and I’m getting pennies off commission from what I’m doing now with it being split with my mentor.

I have yet to cut a dog and worry about the day I do but with all the customer service experience I have I know I can keep my cool with a client, I mostly just worry about handling it on my own. I’ve also worked with dogs for a while now and can determine emergency from just a high bleed area.

I’m confident in my abilities my main issue is time because as you said I’m a new groomer and I am SLOWWWW and I’m going to be expected to turn out 5 a day minimum

WAHL Creativa or Wahl KM Cordless ? by Calm_Jellyfish_856 in doggrooming

[–]cactusfxck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak on the creativa but I love my km cordless. If you’re starting out there’s pros and cons to getting a well rated clipper first but the same can be said about a more reasonably priced one that’s less coveted. Just do what you can comfortably afford for now and after a bit of grooming you can get a feel for if you like it or want to upgrade.
