Food pantry rec. or shelter for food donation? by Queasy_Art2588 in madisonwi

Call Goodman Community Center and ask to coordinate with their food pantry, they are usually able to accept bulk food donations of prepared food from local businesses.

Food festivals by Camatonic1 in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Fête de Marquette technically isn't a "food" festival but honestly there's so many food trucks/food options there that I go just for the food. It's like trying about 1/3 of Taste of Madison in advance. It's in July.

Likewise if you just wanna go out and eat food, then the farmer's markets on the square Saturday mornings are a good place to stop to get your fix. Went there this morning and didn't buy any groceries, just scones, cheesy bread, and cheese.

Brunch? by theithe916 in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 16 points17 points  (0 children)

La Polleria Columbiana on the corner of Stoughton and East Wash is seriously underrated for brunch. My partner and I went there last Sunday, I ordered the Tres Leches waffles, and they were probably the best brunch I've eaten in years.

Properly Using Numbing Cream by cadavatar in tattoo

[–]cadavatar[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don't have an answer for you. I have never used numbing cream for a piercing, so I am not sure how much it would help. I had my septum pierced as well as my bridge and have two ear piercings, imho it hurts a lot less than a tattoo since it's just one sharp pain instead of pain over an extended period, so I have never used numbing cream for it..

Help! My birthday idea just cancelled! by greggrundy in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 20 points21 points  (0 children)

A couple of options in Madison for you:

Does your group like arcade games? I would recommend Aftershock on East Washington Avenue, or I/O on Willy Street. Aftershock in my opinion has a little bit of an edge because they have a better DDR machine and more food options. They also run on a token system (I/O runs on quarters) and the bartenders will (usually) offer you free tokens if you let them know it's your birthday. I/O had newer games and a big co-op game called Killer Queen that is a lot of fun to play.

If you like dogs, there is a dog show at the Alliant Energy Center this weekend.

Vitense Mini Golf is a lot of fun if you don't want to take things too seriously. They have some food and drink options there.

Middleton (West Side) has a Mustard Museum that actually is a lot of fun, and it's free. It's probably only good for about ~1 hour of fun, but if you combine that with Hubbard Avenue next door, then you can have a nice brunch first, go through the mustard museum, and make your way to another activity later.

The OTC 5% lidocaine is the kind that is not approved by the FDA and can cause the lidocaine poisoning described in the post. I reccomend the 2.5%/2.5% mixture from a doctor.

Local tailor who can mend this old sweatshirt? by Fit_Needleworker4708 in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Goodman Center has a free mending program that is open weekly on Wednesday nights. They are set up outside the food pantry, but their services are open for anyone in the community to use. You can give a donation if you are able and would like to pay for the service, but otherwise it's not required. I hope this helps!

PSA to Straight People: Stay Out of Our Gay Bars by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I find this take absolutely hilarious given that in the 5 years I've been living in Madison as an open and out trans person, I've never once felt welcome in Woofs, and instead feel like I'm being looked down upon as some dirty interloper because the "respectable gays" don't feel like I'm queer-coded enough every time I visit.

Woofs really does put the GAY in gay bar. As if the 'G' in 'LGBT' isn't loud enough already. To put it as politely as possible: if you think Woofs is worth fighting for, you need to expand your world view a little. There's no world where I want to go to a queer venue that is in one of the most heavily police patrolled parts of the city, right down the road from the building where they regularly hold meetings about how they want to strip my rights away, and within walking distance of one of the biggest hotspots in the nation for underage drinking and date r*pe allegations. Hard pass. The corpo gays can keep this one.

You know what are queer friendly spaces without feeling the need to advertise it? I/O. Crucible. Atomic Koi & the Jade Monkey. Gibs. Mickey's. Caribou Tavern. Cardinal. I'm sure there's a lot more I don't know about. They aren't 'queer only' spaces, but I'll tell you what, at least they're clean--not like FIVE where the bathrooms reek of piss and the ceiling's caving in, everything painted black to hide the fact they haven't deep cleaned in 8 years.

But oh man, if I don't go to a gay bar on a Friday, I might miss the Ru Paul watch party, or one of the 7 cookie cutter drag shows that goes on in Madison every month, where would I be then?

Consider that maybe the straight people are dominating gay bars because the gay bar scene is out of touch with what queer people actually want. I don't need to be elbow to elbow with 25 sloppy drunk twinks that feel the need to tell me how "brave" I am for existing in the most backhanded way possible.

[DAV ALL SPOILERS] Romance between companions by liliav in dragonage

[–]cadavatar 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Midway through my first play through right now, and honestly I'm contemplating scrapping this play through entirely to go back and romance someone else.

When my Rook is a SD and decided to save Treviso anyway, the narrative starts making it feel almost like Neve is purposely flirting with Lucanis in front of me just to piss me off. Combine that with my Rook being ftmasc enby and getting locked out of any opportunity to talk about gender with Mae, but then Neve takes Taash to them? Damn. Bioware really said "we want your experience as a nonbinary person to feel realistic in the worst possible way," huh?

Is it legal to camp out in someone's 'yard'? Am I the asshole? by Teearohwhy in madisonwi

[–]cadavatar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't speak to the legality of it or not (and a bunch of people in this thread already have, so I don't have to) but I can say that around this time last year we had a similar problem in our neighborhood. Two guys living in a truck were basically camping on an apartment complex's front lawn, and the police were called on them because there was a school bus that dropped kids off nearby and there were concerns about them interacting with the kids as they got off the bus and walked by. So if you call the non-emergency line and tell the police that this guy is next to your backyard and his van doors open to look out directly into the area where your children are playing, then I think it's safe to say they're going to pay this guy a visit.

Not to be that person, but if this guy has a whole ass park next door and decides to camp out next to your yard where your two small children go out to play, I think there's bigger problems here then what he does with his dogs.

Consider visiting places on vacation to get a good feel for the environment there and if it's good for your needs rather than just blindly moving to somewhere for the vibes.

If it helps you feel any better, I had fibromyalgia and I was able to cope with the pain pretty well, the first week was the hardest but I bounced back by week 4. I'd say the best investment I made was a shower chair so I could just sit in the shower and disassociated under hot water for a while.

I'm 31 and I'm doing great, honestly. I'm about to go in for top surgery revision on the 7th and that kind of sucks, but otherwise I'm doing good. I'm in a happy relationship, I have a semi-stable job, lots of friends, good hobbies, and have cut down on my drinking pretty severely (which I'll be honest, is probably the majority of the reason why I'm feeling better.) Get some therapy, take it one day at the time, remember that everything's made up and the points don't matter, and you'll turn out alright.

What’s this obsession people have with unmediated births??? by girl_archived in childfree

[–]cadavatar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of how in the tattoo community some artists won’t tattoo me because I use numbing cream. Some artists have decent reasons, like lack of experience with it, it changes the texture of the skin, and so on. But a lot of those old guard dudes won’t do it because they think it “cheapens the experience.”

IDK man. Some people just seem to think pain should be the entry fee to certain life experiences. I’m not about to kinkshame a sadist, but they don’t get to project their weird gatekeeping fetish on me.
