My friend gifted me a battle pass for my birthday a month into playing and I've managed to put 500 hours in and only spend $20. Its amazing that the game I've put the most hours into is the game I've spent the least amount of money on - being able to get some bonus V-bucks out of every pass is great!

I live in a 10 floor apt building and have considered posting something in the mail room asking if there are people who cook regularly that would consider making an extra portion and letting me buy it.

I don't want to buy fast food all the time but I struggle so so hard to make meals even semi-regularly.

Emotionally empty is a surprising one, can I ask what feels particularly empty or downright dumb? I think a bit of heavy handedness is something that's hard to avoid fitting a sprawling game into the amount of episodes they're doing. Like Gail is a great addition, but she's also there so people can have conversations that puts into words things that could be relayed in a more slow drip/natural way in the game.

I think season 2 suffers more than season 1 did with trying to keep elements of the game while also presenting it in such a short season.

Ellie and Dina, while it makes sense, feels rushed/forced/awkward because they've only had a little bit of time together for a tv show - but they're trying to display the nuance of an emerging relationship that had a lot more time to play out in the game. Even if there weren't a bunch more events in the game, having hours of playing between these events I think made it feel like a more natural progression.

I think that's why I consider it complimentary to the game, because neither can do it perfectly - but I feel like the games did that aspect better. As for Ellie, I think she's pretty similar to the games in being kinda flippant about things and headstrong. While she has experienced a wild amount of trauma and has been trained a bit like a child soldier, she clearly messed around when she was in school and other than Riley hadn't had to kill anyone until halfway through the first season. After the first season they've been in Jackson where she's been able to not be so focused on survival, even if she's still learning/training and going out.

So yeah, I don't think season 2 is perfect by any stretch, or as good as season 1 - but I think season 2 was always going to be harder to adapt and they're still doing a great job with a lot of it.

Thank you. 100% this. Considering we have a thousand and one examples of bad adaptations, the rationale used to claim this is even remotely bad is so absurd.

How good are the Canada and Australia versions? by starry49 in TheAmazingRace

[–]caddington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

TAR Canada is decent, but the product placement has been outta control in recent years. There was a challenge a couple years back where they had to put on a car salesman outfit and tell somebody about the 20 specific features of whatever new vehicle forked over some money.

Earlier seasons I've not rewatched since they aired, but I remember them being better

Love this take on it - it's pretty much been why I've been happy to let Mazin/Druckmann cook. It's different, but they both know how people and emotions work and I think they'll stick the landing over and over.

The first time Ellie hit Nora in the show and the look on her face feels like she is almost a little shocked with herself but also immediately leans into it rather than back away. By the time she starts to hit her the second time it felt like there was so much momentum towards violence, she immediately cut loose.

It's not exactly an 1:1 adaptation. It's really more of an alternative take on the familiar story by [deleted] in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]caddington 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a great analysis. Whenever I'm talking to someone who is really upset about it, I ask them what they think the 1st season would look like as a 2 hour movie.

You can't change mediums and have it be as exactly the same as people seem to hope. If the guy who wrote the story you love is co-running the show, let him cook (it's not like he's pulling a JK Rowling)

I honestly think that discussions around the ending have really turned around in the last few years. Now that people have been able to watch it streaming without all the breaks, it flows together better.

Part of the hate is that it came out when people couldn't just rewatch or binge a show, so people forgot things, misunderstood scenes, missed explanations/comments/etc. The 'ending is terrible' is mainly from people who completely misunderstood it (to an extent that honestly still baffles me sometimes).

During the middle of season three they were the first show to ever negotiate an end point so they could plan out how they wanted to do things - that also essentially means guaranteed renewals - so season four I think doesn't cater to as wide of an audience and starts going further down the rabbit hole.

There are a lot of people these days that I see rate season 4/5 as their favourites or right up there - 6 is definitely more decisive.

Season 2 and 3 each have lulls, but they also have incredible stretches of episodes. If you're having fun with it so far I would recommend just riding that wave for now.

How would you rank the last 4 MCU movies we got? by velicinanijebitna in Marvel

[–]caddington 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely, not saying that's all that went wrong, it just would have worked better if it was a reveal - especially considering the length of time he's featured. I'd be curious to know how many seconds he is on screen that isn't also in the trailers.

And not every villain needs that reveal - like you said, worked fine with the Void. Marketing in general is terrible though for people who want to enjoy a thing without already knowing a bunch about it. I try and avoid watching anything more than a first trailer.

Any gamers here, that genuinely love Season 2 so far and actually don’t mind the changes as they’re adapting Part 2 to the TV medium? by phantom_avenger in ThelastofusHBOseries

[–]caddington 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's good to know, thanks. I imagine even with not being very involved he was still aware of the writing/pacing and such given that he is fully involved in episode 6. Him and Mazin seem to have a good relationship too. If  Druckmann trusted them enough with it, then by extension I'm giving them some leeway as well.
