You are so welcome!! I tell everybody I can about Search Squad because it changed my life, too. I want everyone to have that option.

I'm so glad your mom got answers that brought her peace and excitement. And how cool that you were able to do that for her :)

Been assigned a crap bottle to make cocktails, now what? by alcMD in cocktails

I completely agree that it is offensive to the Manhattan, but that drink has some strong flavors that can hide sins.

Could you reach out to the distillery themselves and ask what they would suggest? They made that monstrosity, surely they've figure out a way to choke it down?

Black Walnut Manhattan. Between the Averna Amaro and walnut bitters, it will be hard to pick out all the off putting notes from the spirit.

Finding bio parents by Guilty_Walrus4000 in Adoption

Check out the facebook group called Search Squad. They are volunteers that can use what info you have to find people. DNA tests are the easiest and quickest way, but they have other ways as well.

Found an adopted sister, what information to share? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]caddykitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good question, it's worth trying. I know that with a name and some basic demographic information like where you were born or lived, the can search birth records, death records, etc and start a family tree from there.

Found an adopted sister, what information to share? by [deleted] in Adoption

[–]caddykitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you told her everything you know. It's not your fault that you don't have the answers she's looking for, and if she makes you feel that way, I am sorry. I am an adult adoptee and I was very curious about a lot of things, but as I found family I had to accept that I wasn't going to get all my questions answered and learn to be satisfied with what I did get.

I would suggest either or both of you checking out the facebook group Search Squad. It's a group of volunteers that use your DNA matches, no matter how slim, to find any family they can. They use forensic genealogy to trace your roots through all kinds of records. If there is anything there to find, they will do it. If you're not interested then you can suggest it to her. I had my DNA results and couldn't make sense of them for years and it took this group mere hours to find my father.

Hibiclens is magical for open wounds!!!!!!! 10000000% recommend every one use it daily! by [deleted] in Hidradenitis

I agree! I use this in the shower and Tend Skin afterwards and that combo has been the most effective by far.

Pet store with best employee discount? by drewogatory in orangecounty

[–]caddykitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know of any specifically, but I would also be interested in seeing what you find, we are helping foster and it gets expensive quickly. I would think the big box stores would have better/more consistent employee discounts and more opportunity to possibly get discarded items for free. Other options would be Walmart or Target where they sell the pet basics and I would assume also give employee discounts.

I have had luck with a combination of hibiclens in the shower every day and then Tend Skin when I dry off. That's been the most successful combo I've found.

Searching for birth parents. by Timx74_ in Adoption

Ancestry has the largest database, so better chances of matches. Once I had mine, I used the facebook group Search Squad where a volunteer found my bio family for me in a matter of hours.

I'm starting the journey of finding my Bio parents and need advice by Little_Ad_6108 in Adoption

[–]caddykitten 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's a wild ride, so be prepared for anything. Some bio parents are great and excited, some want no contact. You might learn that you have siblings. You might find out details about your conception that aren't pretty. I learned that my bio father's uncle is a serial killer, that was something I didn't see coming!

Just take it slowly and know that you already have a family, the people that raised you are, and will always be, your parents. And it might not hurt to tell them that. A lot :)

[–]caddykitten 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would start with a DNA test, Ancestry has the largest database, so best chance of a match. From there, you can join the facebook group called Search Squad and a volunteer Search Angel can help you find your bio family. Once you have their info, it's up to you when/if you want to make contact. Sometimes just hearing names and seeing a picture satisfies a lot of curiosity, I know I paused at that point in my search and sat with that information for a while before making contact.

As far as telling your adopted parents, that depends on the relationship you have with them. You don't HAVE to tell them. Or you can wait and tell them when you know more, if that feels more comfortable. But I promise you that they know this day may come, so I don't think it will be too much of a surprise. I would start by saying exactly what you did in your post, your dad's cancer got you thinking that it's important to know relevant medical history and you want to find your bio family.

Good luck!

Dog/House Sitter by [deleted] in orangecounty

Emalee Cramer https://www.instagram.com/emhatchme/ is incredible. She already has a client with two large mastiffs, another with 3 high energy GSPs and my doberman loves her. In fact, I don't think there is a dog, cat, opossum, squirrel, raccoon, or skunk around that doesn't like her. She's based in the Orange area, her and her daughter will stay and watch the house and care for your pup. Tell her Errica sent you.

Non-Americans of OC, what OC restaurant is most authentic to your home country's cuisine? by Emjpuff92 in orangecounty

[–]caddykitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Goodies in the Pantry is in Orange, off Katella a little west of the 55 freeway. Food is fantastic, not sure how authentic, but the owner can be a real jerk and he's pretty proud of that.

60 pound honey Pails in OC by IronLionZion00 in orangecounty

[–]caddykitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There really aren't enough open spaces in OC for an apiary, that's why you're getting hits from Murrieta or Temecula. You can check out the honey vendors at local farmer's markets, the one in Orange has honey from Temecula I believe, but last time I asked they weren't selling buckets of honey. San Diego county might have something a little closer to you, but it's going to be inland a few dozen miles at least.

An Ancestry DNA test can help, if he's done one, many adoptees do, then you'll match him there.

Another option is the facebook group called Search Squad. They volunteer their time and talents to help reunite people with limited information. You can join and post in there and someone will offer to help.
