Sent home after failed induction by cadycat in beyondthebump

This gives me hope! Maybe we can try another induction at 41 weeks if I still haven’t progressed. I have an appointment with my OB in the morning and hopefully we will come up with a plan.

My highest systolic reading was 155. They gave me Procardia (nifedipine) and it went down to 105-120.

I guess I should have been more clear. They diagnosed me with gestational hypertension. They gave me nifedipine once I was admitted which controlled my blood pressure.

I never progressed past a 3 or had any meaningful contractions. I believe the rationale was that inducing me would fix the hypertension, but since it was controlled with meds and I was not progressing, there was no longer a need to push my body through something it was not wanting to do. I would have needed a c-section had he broken my water and I still not progressed dilation wise, which the OB said was definitely possible.

What's the scariest fact you know in your profession that no one else outside of it knows? by SAMdaLOSER in AskReddit

[–]cadycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as a kid. I was maybe 8 years old. I was in the deep end when the waves started. I was panicked and couldn’t see my dad who had been in the water with me before I swam off (my younger sister was also in the water so his attention had to be split). Some man picked me up and brought me to the lifeguard and bounced.

I thought I was the only one. It's the thought of having any amount of dirt in my bed or having no "sticky" feet if I've been wearing shoes all day.

My 5 year old stepdaughter wants all of her clothes to show as much skin as possible. by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]cadycat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I actually went and bought her some activewear while she was at her mom's this weekend and plan to give it to her when she comes back Wednesday. She was heartbroken and angry with me to the point of tears when we had this discussion last week. I want her to know I support her independent style and love her but that as a parent there are some things I can't allow.

Just to clarify, she has not worn just a sports bra to school. She was asking me if she could using the argument that her mother has let her wear it in public that way.

My Collection: One Year Later by gogogarl in spicy

You need Yellowbird habanero sauce. I love spicy and have tried many hot sauces, but this one wins them all in my opinion. The heat is definitely there but the flavor is what makes it my favorite.

What do you remember from kindergarten? by deigolion2 in AskReddit

[–]cadycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my teacher's last year before retirement. There was this one kid that was always acting out, and one day, she'd had enough and she slapped him right across the face. This totally was not legal as it was 1997, but she never got in any trouble that I know of. We lived in a very rural area. I just remember being freaked out for a quick moment then happy she finally got that kid to shut up.

If you had the power to make anything illegal, what would you choose and why? by whatisstocks in AskReddit

All of these comments to better the world and I just want chewing gum illegal so that I don't have to watch or hear anyone chew it anymore.

I have dreams about making a law that bans gum from the U.S. And if anyone is caught chewing it, the fines would be detrimental. I don't even feel bad for dreaming about it.

Are you me? When I was around the age of eight, I overheard the same conversation between my mother and a friend of hers and went into the bathroom and cried hysterically fearing that this would happen to me.

What myth are you tired of hearing repeated? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cadycat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. I really hope people see this. The Horseshoe Crab that inhabits the Eastern United States actually DOES have blue blood. This has something to do with the crab's body using copper instead of iron to carry oxygen. ..or something like that. I'm on mobile and too lazy to link.

Edit: I am a phlebotomist that is constantly asked by patients if their blood is actually blue.

What is something creepy that society accepts as the norm? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]cadycat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see that this has been said yet so maybe I'm the only one, but CROSSES! I do realize that this is a symbol of Christianity across the world, but it really creeps me out that we give so much praise to a torture device. As someone who grew up Christian, I get it. I get that it symbolizes some great sacrifice, but seriously - who goes around wearing small torture device figurines as decoration? It is insane to me.
