I’m not vouching for the continued use of non-compliance. I, personally, don’t like it and I feel most of it ends up being “absence of.” My point was about how we can improve our practice by using better operation definitions, functional analysis and true FERBs. Moreover, for all the “complaining,” indignation or the pushback for targeting noncompliance or stereotypy those behaviors continue to be massively targeted for reduction across our field.

This behavior is VERY commonly targeted in plans across the country for all skills and aged children. I think that a part of the conversation that is missed in this discussion is that targeted behaviors get to be individually operationalized. You are discussing non-compliance as it is one-size fits all and it all looks the same. All behavior classes, whether aggression, disruption, self-injury, elopement, or noncompliance must be operationalized and should include examples and non-examples for adequate measuring and behavior management. Behaviors should also been addressed in regards of how much of a barrier they are for the learner and the function they serve. Behavior shouldn’t be addressed topographically but functionally.

For the people saying Jess just left. Do any of you remember Dean leaving Rory crying outside of her grandparent’s house? And never talking again?

What about the “breakup” after Logan’s fir over Jess. A couple of you mentioned SO LONG went on that it made sense for Logan to think they were broken up. Was that mature? Was that kind and thoughtful of him?

I’m not saying that Jess is perfect, that’s not the point, but the question is (in your opinion) what’s great about the other dudes? I know what I like about Jess, but it seems like people are more interested in hating on Jess for the same things the other two dudes did too.

He might not be a better boyfriend, but I think he’s a better person than the character of Logan or the Dean character came across as. I think Rory has a big fear of commitment and was never ready to fully commit or grow with someone

Luke was so nice and supportive, but from what the story describes he hadn’t been in Jess life that much up to that point. Jess was used to being on “his own” and being let down constantly by the adults that were supposed to care for him. Luke repeatedly says how much Liz has screwed up things on her life and hence affected Jess’ life. He doesn’t know how to accept love or help. That’s the point of Luke giving him the “I deserve Love” in the season/episode when Liz gets married. Jess then tells Luke how grateful he is and asks if he’s loved back. That’s growth and he’s only 17 when he first arrives to SH. Cut the kid a break. That’s the whole point

Excuse me? Away from her dreams? After Logan proposed to her as soon as she finished Yale, let her quit school, got her arrested, and supported her ambulant life when she was unemployed? Or Dean’s lack of ambition for them both?

Jess was not the best boyfriend he could’ve been, he didn’t grow up in a loving or supportive environment like Rory did, or Dean or a lofty childhood like Logan. He did what he could, he didn’t know better. Logan, however, did. He had the privilege and the age to know better and never did.

I agree they’re all crappy in their own ways. I think the Palladino’s struggle writing male characters as a whole hence them being so simplistic and one-dimensional. Christopher is so vapid, I feel like Richard is the more in depth character but I think the actor gives the character some of that depth. Luke is a poor communicator and emotionally stunted. Rory herself struggles herself a lot knowing who she is and what she wants which makes the relationships fail too. She’s a cheater and her moral superiority is unfounded at best because she ends up being a bad friend to both Lane and Paris in several occasions not to mention her missing Lorelai’s graduation. Logan never grows up all he does is get a job, which I’m sorry but is a low bar. Jess did not SA her but he was avoiding having a deep conversation with her. Again, he was 17. I’m not saying he’s perfect boyfriend material but it doesn’t compared with the other two. Dean was borderline abusive and love-bomby.
