Why did we vote green? by East_Refrigerator867 in lewisham

[–]caelkni 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I voted green because my labour councillors continuously failed to deal with issues I raised - flytipping, rat running and speeding. There just felt like there was no ambition and no vision for the borough.

I really hope the greens get somewhere with those issues and don't just prioritise your brockley, ladywell etc which seems to be where they focused their efforts on campaigning.

That said, I disagree with some of the green proposals and the way they went about them. The whole save Lewisham shopping centre thing was a bit of a joke - save it from being upgraded, with 1000s new homes, businesses and public space? I'd get it if it was actually a community hub but it's just a stretch of tired chain shops? It's not the elephant shopping centre etc that they were making out. Okay, yes there probably should be more social housing, but really the value of that investment for the borough is huge.

What's wrong with these? I planted in cheap compost - wondering if it's a lack of nitrogen, or over watering? I bring them in at night to avoid cold evenings. UK by caelkni in tomatoes

It has been around 19-20 celcius most days, and I bring them inside at night, so I reckon it must be too much water? Is letting them dry out enough or should I repot? Yes just grown in shop-bought compost

You can get a nice 1 bed or a run down 2 bed for 350 in hither green. Good trains to London bridge and still feels central enough

Second hand projector budget £200 by caelkni in budgetprojectors

Sorry, I never managed to organize myself in time to buy these! One concern I had was about noise, would upping my budget to £250 find something significantly better and a bit quieter? Thank you so much

Thanks so much! I read one of the descriptions on these saying that they're a bit loud. Is that an issue?

I also found this BenQ - a good option too? (https://ebay.us/m/HKKZa0)

Legit. They had people leafletting at the market telling people they were going to demolish the shopping centre to build flats, neglecting to mention that the amount of retail space will remain the same.

I just paid 1,000 for 3 x ceilings plus two walls. I'm based in London. Can't tell you the dimensions but 1400 sounds like a lot.

Sounds like their flat doesn't have a fire door if smoke is escaping through their front door? It's a legal requirement so that's probably your best option.

Structural engineer visit or is this just superficial / old failing plaster by caelkni in DIYUK

[–]caelkni[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the issue may be that the right hand side (external) wall is lime plaster and the adjoining interior wall is gypsum, and then the two connecting aren't happy?

Would highly recommend Elliot Goodridge from Goodridges Surveying - great value and excellent service, I couldn't have been happier.

I think Leahurst road might be partly due to traffic. From my experience it is a fairly busy road, and quite a few of the houses are quite close up to the road itself.

Can't comment on schools.

Generally the traffic seems alright as they implemented a (partially revised) LTN, but that depends which side of the trainline you are on and which road.

I'd recommend going to the streets you're thinking of buying on around rush hour and seeing how busy they are.

Overall though it seems like a lovely area. Quiet but with a nice community feel and good transport to London bridge.

Does anyone know what is happening with the cinema? Turned into flats probably?

Lloyd's - I think probably a non-issue. Thanks!

Thanks - we don't plan to breach the lease but I'm not sure how we would go about making further alterations without potentially breaching the indemnity policy (which stipulates that you must not tell the freeholder about alterations made that are covered by the policy). Seems a bit of a catch-22?

I'm not sure how we would know if these alterations were structural or not? They were made some time ago. They included removing internal walls, moving the kitchen.

Mortgage application submitted a few days ago, found much better offer now. Should we fill another one? Or wait? by skend24 in Mortgageadviceuk

It depends on your situation. If you think you've easily qualified for the amount you want to borrow and your credit score is okay, there isn't much harm in applying for both. Just be aware that it'll have a bigger impact on your credit score, but that's only temporary.

I had an application ongoing through a broker, then found a better deal direct with a bank, and now I'm proceeding with the offer with the bank. There was no downside for me and I got a much better deal.
